If you're on a break after drawing and feel like sharing what's on your mind about what you're working on, the industry, things that excite you about art, or anything that frustrates you about drawing or the process of art then grab a cup of water and chill out here. Remember to keep discussion on-topic as much as possible.

Seeing all the progress made by anons in >>6944618 fills me regret for not having drawn literally anything in 2023.

I recently re opened my xwitter account and dumped everything I didnt post, as well some new draws, one FotM posting included. My account is looking lively, my posts did good numbers, a few new follows and lots of engagement from both new and regulars alike, I get a few nice messages and people seem to really appreciate my stuff, two commissions on the working too, so income is not missing.

Im just very happy for how things are coming along lately, Im still getting hated on this board and still have a dedicated schizo trying to mess with me, but in the grand scheme of things, everything is doing great.

If I can do it, so can you, anon, and so much better too, Keep pushing!

Speaking as someone who draws in anime style, weebs are so fucking cringe I swear. Twice now I have been approached by them in public. (My house is a fucking furnace this time of the year around noon so I need to go somewhere with an ac to draw). I already hate being bothered while drawing enough but they have this trademark incel nervousness when approaching a stranger, making lame jokes and trying to get my attention with some captain obvious tier lines like "whoa you draw manga eh" or "hey fellow weeeeeb". So I'm working on a game with a few buddies and 1 of them said they always wanted to create game assets for a game. cool, we could use someone with art skills (I was ultra beg at this point, so didn't volunteer). We finally came up with ideas for concept art and gave him the creative freedom to do whatever characters and styles he wants to use. He shows off his work to us and it's clearly traced from a popular animated show. It blew my mind he thought that would pass. We then look at some of his earlier "work" and he traced one of the most wellknown gaming mascots of all time and just recolored some things. Now looking back at his idea contribution for game design, he only ever suggested 1-to-1 copies of other games with no attempt to be unique or different, and he only ever suggested them because his fiance wanted them. How do people like this become "artists"? I thought creativity was something you had to have to be one. Even most coom artists have the decency to actual draw their work and not trace, holy shit.

>No one's gonna bother when that's the case
But that's objectively wrong. Everyone who is genuinely skilled at ANY activity was once unskilled. Simple logic can tell you then the only people who become skilled are those who put themselves out there while being unskilled. All skilled people are people who achieved poor results many times but still bothered to try long-term. That's objective logic.
Your mentality itself is unskillful. You're only going to hold yourself back if you spend your entire life results-oriented instead of process-oriented. In our world only people who let go of results get the privilege of eventually getting them. That goes for everyone, including you and people who are better than you. The difference is they DID bother and put in their reps already.

>> No.6982079

>>6982070
>But that's objectively wrong. Everyone who is genuinely skilled at ANY activity was once unskilled.
That's actually wrong.
Anyone who is skilled at an activity has started off in a positive feedback loop of success/engagement.
Someone who is at the top of his class at age 15 has likely been at the top at age 9 as well.
You start doing something, you find a natural skill for it, you continue and get even better.
Without the initial success the engagement will die off in 99% of the individuals and those who prevail will never reach the level that comes to others naturally.

I bet you that most professional or even good artists have been doing this shit since age 10 if not earlier. So at the age i am now most of them already have 12+ years of experience.

I agree wit hthe second part that much is >You're only going to hold yourself back if you spend your entire life results-oriented instead of process-oriented. In our world only people who let go of results get the privilege of eventually getting them. That goes for everyone, including you and people who are better than you. The difference is they DID bother and put in their reps already.
I won't give up simply because i don't want to. I don't believe i have any chance of success though. I don't have anything better to do either.
I'll start tomorrow becasue its really late right now for me.

Well, I'm not going to lie and say people's opportunities and environment don't affect them. But just because that's true as well doesn't mean we need to slide into doomerism about learning as adults. Earlier or later, everyone started one day.

I'll also say if you've ever been very verrry skilled at an activity, you might come to think differently about lucking into positive feedback loops being what drives success.
As for why I say that - Incidentally, I play a certain fighting game at a very high level (like one of the best players in my state). Getting to a very high level at any skilled activity is like walking through a never-ending series of "you must be this tall to ride" signs. All success just brings you up one step, only to experience failure once again at a higher level. The only people who get good (in my experience) are people who can somehow psychologically manage the never-ending negative feedback loop that this causes.
Success is always transient and relative, but failure always comes back. So if you say people who are top-level at things are just in positive feedback loops, I'd have to say the actual experience of skill growth long-term feels very opposite to that. As far as I've experienced, frustration is the one true constant of learning. And if I look at /beg/ to high-/int/ players the only real question of talent is the talent of being able to motivate/lead oneself through a learning process. People only genuinely butt up against genetic factors in their success (like in my example how many frames your reaction time is/etc) at the highest level. Up until the top 1% it's all mentality, putting in reps, and structured learning skills.

Trust the reps and trust yourself. Beliefs about the self become self-fulfilling prophecies. If you convince yourself it's hopeless you'll put yourself in danger of making that true, and it doesn't have to be. I wish you luck anon.

I've been really frustrated with my art recently.

For one: I'm really slow, and it's not like my work is that complex. I tried working within time-limits but all that lead to was a bunch of half-finished, wonky, pieces.

Second: I feel like my art just looks... Soulless? idk. Guys like Ryo Sumiyoshi and Masamine Shirow are my biggest inspirations and they're work is VERY expressive.
Like the characters are just gushing with emotions and I just never quite hit that, all my chatacters are just a tad too stiff to seem real.

suddenly IC shits on it like it's garbage even though it succeeded to capture the masses and multiple artists who drew fanart for it etc.

So what the hell is the standard here? Do you wanna make it? or does making it mean suddenly you're producing generic slop? So much cope and resentment on here sometimes.

How do you guys manage your time for study/personal arts?

I find it hard to balance when my mind is set to "i will study all these things" but me being beg means i can only draw so much in my free time. Hell, it took 30 mins for me to copy a mannequin without fucking up the proportion. But at the same time i'm also aware that i need to provide time to just draw for myself so i can keep enjoying it and giving my little brain cooldown time to process all that studies

>> No.6985508

>>6985485
Horribly

but when I could prioritize better, I usually studied things immediately relevant to what I want to do/where I want to go and tried not to think about it too much. To me, when you want to learn something and you overthink every step about it then you're not in the headspace to actually learn because you're too busy trying not to make errors. I ultimately try to treat things one step at a time, as simply as possible, "I will make this line" and then follow that up with the smallest action instead of thinking, "I have to not fuck up everything".

If I remember correctly the japs are doing the study for kids and people up to 25yo and theres other countries doing similar studies

So far we've only confirmed that the isolation fucked up school kids, that there definetly is long-term "brain fog" but not "brain damage" (and for that we are not sure if it's caused by exclusively mild and severe cases (so the effects of the disease) or is the virus itself the culprit)

Anon, I know rich people. They don't live in the way you think they do at all. Someone illustrated it quite nicely when they said in this age the only difference between the poor and the rich is the latter having more sticks. It doesn't matter. They live like degenerates, fucking highclass whores while you beat off to pixels, living in big houses while you shiver in your tiny apartment, and pissing in a golden bowl while you, well, piss in a normal bowl. These are not actual lives anymore than your daily dullness is. Their lives are just as devoid of meanings as the npcs. For every sublime moment you stand before a finished work of art you have been more alive than most men out there. I would never envy them.

I know a guy over 75 who's your definition of being filthy rich, and yet he goes to his office everyday to account for every penny in his masisve wealth. He spends more time at work than I do and fucks one of his many young concubines at night. But I don't think I have ever seen him looking happy, not even once. When having dinner with other people, all he talks about is work, money, some politics, never any personal interests. You don't want to live that life.

A few squarefeet of that land is worth more than what I've earned my entire life, just the contents of that house as-sold would be worth more than I'll ever earn.
Like, they have the economic freedom to enjoy whatever passions they so please and I DO SEE IT. Especially online.

Rich people suck exactly like poor people, often more
Most people that are born into rich families have no fucking backbone and explode into rage and anxiety when things don't go their way, so you should consider yourself lucky for the ounce of balls you got from being a poorfag.
If you're jealous of someone that built their fortune, that's another thing completely, you should take him as example before you're too old to change your life- but like the other anon said- the big difference is living your life for the job you love, and getting rich as a consequence, versus forcing yourself to pursue any way to get rich, that's going to leave you with fucking nothing in the end
And yes, money is fucking nothing. I really don't know from where you guys come from, but I grew up in basically a shack, with the redneck slobs part of my family, and even when my bitch mother married a big dick doctor I ended up living on and off a gypsy life without even house warm water for years, before actually ending up as a hobo and sleeping on the streets, all while the rich part of my family bitched, moaned, and literally backstabbed each other to death for real estate proprieties
So don't take what I say about money as some fairy butterfly new age bullshit, I know what I'm talking about. If you make enough to live you have everything you need to do whateveryou want with your life, the rest is just bullshit perceived as a better life

>> No.6986880

>while the rich part of my family bitched, moaned, and literally backstabbed each other to death for real estate proprieties
pretty much. trash ass people will always be trash ass people, and if your born rich the deck is stacked against you hard to become a good person. Good people can enjoy wealth, shit people will just create problems until they're dead and their lives are a trash heap no matter how much they have in their bank.
I have little but if I'd have to sacrifice all the bullshit and growth I've done over the years to be rich I'm turning that shit down so hard - in that case I have plenty. Money can rent you paradise, but it can't buy happiness
