>>What went well in your artistic journey?
All the blood, sweat, and tears I've been putting into studies has finally paid off and things are finally starting to make sense while drawing. I was able to make my first creative piece recently and I'm really proud of myself for hitting some new milestones these last few months, since I began DAD. I really feel like I've leveled up and it's refreshing to know I broke through some major personal barriers. I've also gotten positive feedback on my work when sharing and I got up the courage to post on a few sites, in which I plan on adding more as I get even better.

>>What are some things you're excited to work on?
After so much time just doing studies, I want to strengthen my creative abilities and make even more pieces. I'm near the beginning of my art journey, so I know I have a lot more to learn (dynamic poses, better anatomy, environments/backgrounds, perspective, color theory, lighting/shading, details/highlights, etc.), but I'm not feeling doomed or lost like I used to when I first started. In fact, I have some newfound confidence in my capacity to learn all of this stuff and actually look forward to the day I can implement it into my own work.

Stuff like the secret santas, figuring out and developing my taste. Also, and it seems contradictory to caring about what people think, but aiming for more aesthetic over accurate. > What went well/not well in your artistic journey?
Finally making enough out of art for it to be a viable career, not just pay check to pay check and pray for the best. My drawing hour threshold has gone up by a lot too.

I... I'm not really sure if I improved all that much though. I'm sure in some ways I must have with all the mileage I got this year, but I somehow feel like I have nothing to show for it. We're still doing ideation for the project I'm working on and the previous two jobs I had also didn't have that many finished assets, so I don't have any pieces I can point to and say 'hey I really got better, huh'. I really miss posting on places like DAD to have that linear view. I feel like I really stagnated, though I'm not sure if it's true. I keep second guessing myself.

>What are some things you're excited to work on?
Practice! I haven't deliberately practiced my art in a very long time, if barely at all. I /technically/ went to art school and all but never actually learned art like you're supposed to, just kinda fucked around since a really early age and got to an okay stage.

I'm really determined to change that this year. I feel like I'll be beginning from scratch, covering the basics from the start. I don't look forward to unlearning all my bad habits, but I'm sure it'll be worth it. I'm very intimidated but also feel very hopeful. Crossing my fingers I'll take my polish and draftsmanship to the next level.

>Small boat is alright but the rest look a bit melted.
Indeed it does. I was not properly drying elements, and that's the result.
Also I was failing to drop rich enough value, colors kept washing out and losing opacity.
I need more practice.

>>6984086
>Any tips on how it works in Rebelle? Do you dry the layer often?
I had completely glissed over all the necessary key shortcuts, avoid my mistake.
Fast dry (F) bakes the changes, but doesn't dry the water.
Shift+D dries the layer
D pauses diffusion
H toggles wet view
...etc

Remember that you have a bunch of watercolor behaviors under the "Visual Settings" panel.

Zero wetness in the brush allows you to just draw without everything melting.
You can't set transparent/semi-trasparent/opaque watercolor modes when color pigment is enabled.

Wet on wet is cool, but you gotta learn how much "water" to use to get the desired effect.

First time /DAD/ poster and possible record holder for shortest streak as I won't have anything to show tomorrow (unless WIPs are the whole point of this thread). As an actual dad and someone who just does art as a hobby my posting will be irregular. Here is my first ever pastel drawing that I just finished this morning as a preparation for a much larger piece my wife wants for the dining room (different subject). I figured pastel would be a fun challenge and the high contrast nature of it would work well for a large piece so I bought a set and went for it. I'm pretty happy with it even though I cheated the cloth which is supposed to be almost like a mesh, I just went ahead and used contour lines to mimic the look because I didn't want to overwork it. I learned for the next one that the key to pastel is to always be sharpening...

Happy New Year!

Have you tried talking about this in therapy? It's not for everyone, but it is generally helpful to be able to just talk to a professional and get tips regarding how to move past these feelings.

>My partner is never happy with me
Some questions worth asking yourself: Are you happy? Are you staying in the relationship due to inertia? When was the last time you did something for yourself?
Try to take it easy this upcoming weekend.

If there's no light at the end of the tunnel then why do you want to get there so fast. There is always a reason to live, especially if you think it all ends when you die; don't waste your only chance at life just because it's not working out at the moment. Start by focusing on making yourself happy before you worry about anyone else's feelings, any improvements towards your own feelings of self worth echo out into your external relationships.

Here's the start of the dining room piece. Big ass 27x40" paper. Doesn't look like much yet but the measuring and placement took time at this scale, never drawn anything this big. The previous one I posted is just 9x12". Really the hard part is over drawing it in and blocking out the background. Stop symbol drawing and start looking at what you're seeing. You KNOW the proportions are wrong, so why do you continue. If you want a simple trick to get you started, try just taking a portion of your reference and using that measurement as a guide. Pic related is an example. Generally the eyes fall in the center of the head which is your first guide. Then between the center of the eyes and the bottom of the chin usually sits the bottom of the nose, which again you achieved. Between the bottom of the nose to the bottom of the chin lies the bottom of the bottom lip and that's where your proportions are noticeably off. Compare your drawing to the reference with this in mind and hopefully the guidelines make it more apparent to you. Any other criticism rests in the fact that you're drawing what you're seeing instead of what's actually there. Keep training your eye and don't try to draw the picture, draw the shapes that make up the model not the lines. Keep at it, you're closer than you think, you just need that "aha" moment.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T7cDY7YDsg

Watch this video and you're next drawing will be 10 times more accurate, trust me.

I went from pretty much where you're at to pic related in a month just from that video I linked you and some exercises. This was a life drawing I was working on a few years back, a couple of sit down sessions.

I used to be on /ic/ giving out tips a couple years back and I would always link that video, I subbed to New Masters Academy for a month or so and his series really helped, just so happens to have that nice free sample on youtube.

You'd probably get banned for spam more than anything, but I'd say it's against the spirit more than the written rule. The point of DAD is building a habit with the goal of improvement. You have to really wrangle word definitions to justify AI prompting to fit these paradigms.
It's like lying on the time-drawn figure on a submission: sure, nobody can stop you, but all you're doing is hurting yourself in the end. What would be the point of uploading AI art to DAD? You gain nothing from it, all you're doing is clogging up the submissions. Ergo, it's effectively spam.

Some of my art is AI art. Has been for months and I haven't gotten caught yet. I have a folder of AI sketch prompts so I always have an emergency backup if my steak is in danger or if I just feel like going out instead of doing art that day.
Imo, AI is a tool for artists, so it's legitimate work, especially since prompting uses some creativity.

At the end of the day art is art whether it's AI or traditional, so as long as people like it there's no difference between drawing or prompting your art.
