Because they, like 99% of artists, are mentally ill. They draw porn without purpose or a higher goal. They are shallow and empty. Once they realize this, their ego can't handle it and they self-destruct.
If you do porn as an artist it needs to be a means to an end. It can't be your sole reason to draw, or even worse, your identity as an artist. Use porn/lewd art as a stepping stone to get where you want. Be it followers, clients, or experience.
Once you have what you want, discard it and move on to the shit you wanted to draw from the very beginning.

respectfully, that is a red herring and has nothing to do with my statement. that said, the painting itself nor the story of Pygmalion and Galatea is sexually depraved (funnily enough Pygmalion denounces harlots from the outset).

Did this when I overloaded myself with commissions that took over a year to finish. This paired with the grief of losing people IRL and winding up in a shitty environment led me to burnout. I'm trying to revive my account now but it's been rough when you've been inactive for so long the algorithm mistakes you for a new account, and you don't show up in people's feeds anymore. I don't even get any interactions from clients I grew close with in the past. I can guarantee you their disappearances have more to do with their IRL circumstances than it has with art, most of the time.

the most popular depiction of the myth being ovid's retelling in metamorphoses, i invite you to read ovid's ars amatoria and see for yourself whether ovid had a problem with sex or not. interestingly enough he was writing in an era where octavian was deploying strict measures to fight sexual depravity, except no one gave a fuck and everything went back to normal as soon as he died. prostitution, adultery, eunuch sex slaves dressed as women, the culture of the roman empire. you think this has anything to do with modernity?

the image wasn't to illustrate my point, I just like it and the story. though again, the story isn't sexually depraved anyways.
>the most popular depiction of the myth being ovid's retelling in metamorphoses, i invite you to read ovid's ars amatoria and see for yourself whether ovid had a problem with sex or not.
I don't say this to be a pretentious fag, but I have read a good amount of Ovid in Latin - from his Amores to the Ars Amatoria to parts of his Metamorphoses and even his later letters. he is a very whimsical writer to plays around with sex a lot: that still doesn't mean the story of Pygmalion and Galatea is somehow sexually depraved. it's not like a writer can't write a bunch of risque literature and also more earnest literature about love. and just because I appreciate one picture and story famous in a culture doesn't mean I think the culture as a whole is a perfect model for how people should conduct themselves.

okay but you are bitching and crying about modernity being sexually depraved, when what you see as sexual depravity is a universal historical phenomenon. the only cultures that have managed to successfully repress it have done so through such violent measures (usually involving some mix of despotism and/or fearmongering, brainwashing) that it is arguably not worth it. but even if you think it's worth it, the very idea that sex = modernity = le bad is easily disproven by an analysis of sexual behaviors in different historical societies.

sure sexual depravity can be found everywhere, though that's only part of my original point. my main point is that sex is very trivialized. at least in the US where I'm from there are clear cultural shifts from previous generations; marriage and sex was more sacred and porn was not as widely dispersed and created. sex is not sacred. it’s a biological act. the reason what is happening right now seems so shocking to you is because a false idealized view of sex has been built in the first place, now this dynamic is being reversed and people are taking it too far. but these people are just like you, both of you are putting sex on a pedestal and ideaizing it in a different way. a time will come when people will just view it for what it is, an instinctive physical act that you may or may not be attached to and emotionally affected by.

to clarify, I do not find it shocking. even some of the things I have seen done or promoted which I might describe as visually shocking I would not say is shocking in the sense that it is unbelievable that anyone would engage in or promote that behavior. on the contrary I see these things not only as hypothetically possible but reasonably probable in terms of human behavior. though I do find a lot of it damaging to society, and now or at some point in the future I think people will admit or feel it on some level. for instance, you have a lot of men who admit that they are obsessed/addicted with porn but would ideally be in an actual relationship and find it hard to break away from their screens. there are other examples, and of course there are exceptions, but in general I would maintain these things. though I realize others will disagree.

The fact that a cunk of it is porn has fuck all to do with it. I just love drawing, no matter the context, and have drawn all sorts of typical art school pieces as well as "wholesome" art like pet portraits and greeting cards, but as a permavirgin with who falls in love with cartoon characters, drawing porn of characters I like is something I genuinely enjoy. Outside of that I live a morally straight, borderline puritanical life (I don't even pirate art instruction), so I'm not sure what kind of Amish upbringing one would've experienced to feel that their "soul" was somehow tainted by drawing toon titties or some anime character eating animal dung. I’m not sure the extent to which this happened and its other particulars, but even if we agree that it was the norm for many medieval societies, with all due respect, I do not see how people allowing their children or friends see them have sex is an example of people being “completely devoid of any morals or ethics”; it doesn’t mean they didn't treat it very seriously in other ways
>sexual deviant
depends on what you mean. obviously people are hard-wired to reproduce, but that’s not sexual deviancy to me. beyond reproduction I’m much more hesitant to say people are “hard-wired” to do the things they do in regards to sex
to clarify, the active treatment of sex and sexuality (like sexual deviance) is only part of the issue. the other part is the passive effects it has on individual people and society at large regardless of our intentions. this is where things like porn addiction, declining birth rates, declining relationships, shams of polyamorous "relationships", and other things come into play

I agree, I think most people should probably keep their dick in their pants.

What I mean with the medieval example is that people shouldn't look to the past with rose tinted glasses. Sex has pretty much always been a trivial thing. Or some weird mix or trivial and not trivial, like making love to your wife is a sacred act but fucking some whore is just letting off steam. The only difference now is that we completely embrace that triviality, which pulls us into further deviance like the things you talked about. In the past there was religion and community, which sort of kept us accountable in maintaining an image of decency. But it's just an image, we as a society just stopped lying about it because there's really nothing to hold us accountable to our depravity anymore. A lot of people think the past was getting married and having a family and nobody was adulterous and everything was perfect. When in reality the way we think of sex hasn't changed that drastically, we just stopped lying about the way we think. Which is bad, I'm not at all in defense of this hellworld we live in.

I think we’re talking past each other to an extent, but I will try to be more clear. we can get rid of the word if it makes things easier, but when I say ‘trivial’ I’m not merely talking about having a bunch of sex with whoever you can get your hands on and doing bdsm or whatever (sexual depravity). and even with stuff like that I still am not convinced sex is insignificant. for instance, take a guy finding some random chick he met at a bar or on Tinder (or a few), having sex on the regular with no intentions of a relationship, but then getting pissed off when he learns that she has another fuck-buddy. perhaps there are exceptions, but at least in general I do not believe people can have sex with complete emotional detachment. perhaps we will simply have to agree to disagree on that.

another part of what I'm trying to say is that there are strong consequences for treating sex as if it is something cheap. like mentioned previously, more and more men are getting addicted to porn and are not forming real, meaningful relationships with women – even when they themselves say that they ultimately want that. there are also men who do not want commitment and, through birth control, are more able to avoid it; and when birth control fails, these men are less likely to stay with the woman because they never wanted the child in the first place, so you will get more single moms. and as mentioned earlier, this also contributes to declining birth rates. regardless of whether you believe in an objective morality or not – which I myself, although I wish I thought such a one existed, do not think so – I would think you have to admit that these behaviors and sentiments do not contribute to a zero-sum game, that they do have consequences to individuals and wider society.

I don't agree with them either, but we can be civil about this. if you need to let your anger out get a punching bag or something. or more fittingly draw yourself beating the shit out of someone. two birds one cup.
