After a decade of studying at ateliers I'm truly baffled by this shit. Academic drawing doesn't impress me anymore. I know how it's done - meticulous measuring and rendering. But when I look at these simple animu girls my blood turns to ice. I understand a different skill set is involved but all same.. how the fuck do they conjure this stuff up with such a minimal grounding in perspective, anatomy, etc? It shouldn't be possible.

You use construction when you have trouble consistently drawing volume, forms and proportions.

Once you have those down you don't need construction anymore because you'll subconsciously draw what the construction previously provided.
