See this is why I am hesitant about it. It seems like having a Twitter is more than a liability than anything. People freak out over things you wouldn't ever expect them to, meanwhile on places like instagram people get away with a lot of shit that would normally get the twitter mob after you. The only other place I can think of with this level of toxicity is tumblr.

Yeah, self-publishing to make money is generally how it works. Larger hosting sites like Tapas, Webcomics, etc. intentionally structure things so that you only get paid by them if you become a "partner" with them. The problem is that it means you only 1) make extremely SFW stuff and 2) you are now a flesh puppet that dances to their tune and publishing schedule and you no longer truly own your own IP.

any brand new, sub-10 follower twitter accs getting seemingly pushed around by the twitter algorithm?
After about a month of use I suddenly got a message to say that my account visibility had been restricted for a while in order to ensure that I was a real human, but that had been lifted after enough engagement was detected.

I've had some bizarre stuff happen subsequently though, like half of my followers liking one post and then the other half liking the next post with no overlap, not even the guys who will like any mundane text post, all of them seemingly capped around 3-5 likes max.
Sometimes a larger acc that follows me will like a crappy wip i posted days after the fact, but not the final illustration.
Today I even had twitter lock my account briefly for sending i dm to someone who wasn't following me, even though I'd done the same days before.
I've also noticed that some of the smaller accounts i follow are not appearing on my feed. Do I really have to become a large account reply guy to get anywhere? I am also willing to accept the conclusion that i just suck lol

It’s up to you. Some do it, some don’t. I personally want my gallery view page to highlight my strongest pieces, and look clean and consistent. People always like sketches though. Often seen as more soulful, maybe attainable for beginner and non-artists. Also shows insight into your process and such.

I find single sketch and WIP posts a little annoying. Post when you finish something worthy, imo. I also would rather not spoil the release of the finished piece with a WIP. Sure posting frequently is somewhat important to keep your account “hot” in the eyes of the algorithm or whatever and net you some more bot accounts and scam accounts and mightaswellbebot accounts, but chances are people aren’t waiting anxiously for an artist to post their next piece. I’ll see someone come back from a few month break saying “sorry I haven’t posted lately.” wtf. The people who follow you, that even actually want to and not just doing it for mutual following an all that bullshit, don’t care. Chances are they forgot you existed and will until your next post. They follow 1,000 other accounts; your absence probably wasn’t felt. And if you do have some followers that do genuinely like your work and look forward to it, they will still be there if you don’t post frequently. Focus on making the best art you can and continue to improve. You want a real audience that actually cares anyway, not an astroturf following of non-engagement.

I’d suggest, and personally prefer as a viewer/follower to see a sketchbook ‘dump’ of a few sketches. You could post em in stories and keep the ones you like best in a highlight at the top of page.

This is some of the most dumb stuff I heard in a while here, which says a lot.
I can't tell if you are willfully baiting and shitposting or do you seriously think you are in the position to give advice about this kind of stuff.
Just because I draw porn it doesn't mean I always get porn request or that people should always expect stuff to beat their meat to.

scan your drawings better. here's what I do (to scan them with my phone's camera):
1. take a good picture of it in daylight. not direct sun light, but open your window wide and place your sketchbook next to it. don't cast a shadow over the paper, try to place it vertically or tilted if possible.
2. edit the image. tweak saturation, brightness and contrast levels. I usually drop saturation to 0 and raise contrast a little. there's a great phone app called snapseed that can do this and more.
3. this is very important. you'll notice that when you take a picture of paper you'll notice that one or more corner of it will have a darker patch of shadow. there are two ways I deal with this: a) I create a burn/dodge layer on top of the drawing and dab the dark corner with a white airbrush or a white gradient, then I tweak with this layer's opacity until I'm satisfied. b) use the 'selective' tool on snapseed with the brightness slider.

But there are some topics that, while I'm not completely and utterly opposed to doing, would prefer to discourage clients from commissioning (NSFW, furry, guro, etc). No one forces you to accept comms you dont want to do. Of course it's good to know what you willing to do and what not but your clients are probably intrested in stuff you draw on your own already. There hasnt been many cases of me getting asked to draw something outside my usual stuff and even then they thematically fit my main niche and i've been able to tell just fine that I'm flattered they'd ask me but that i wouldnt personally be comfortable drawing it for them. Instead of making ass of yourself and pricing stuff you dont want to do extra high, simply handle it in PMs instead of publicly

Either the itchio community is super gay or the search artificially boosts them.
