If you are a /int/ermediate or /beg/inner in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the drawthread with fundamental exercises.

When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction
to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help.
When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

Remember:
before criticising any of my work I post, I will require this information about you
1. your full name - name and surname
2. the address of your current residence
3. the address of your workplace
4. your marital status and the name of your spouse, if any
5. your annual wage, before and after tax
6. your license plate
7. your place of birth
8. the names of your parents
9. your credit card number and the expiration date
and finally you MUST post your work.
If but one of these points is not met, or, if I am unable to find a Wikipedia page about you, that matches the information you have given, that lists you as a prominent artist in any artistic field, all your critique directed towards me or my work is invalid and actually the opposite of what you say is true and my work is perfect and devoid of any mistakes.
Also, when you do criticise my work, you can not use any word included in the following list because your post will automatically get filtered by my automatic filtering system. You must treat me like a toddler when you criticise my work or I will cry.

Let's keep it nice and civil in here, folks.

finally after a few years of doing nothing to improve and just drawing occasionally for fun, I'm trying to git gud again. I've spent the last 3 or so weeks building up a daily drawing habit without any real aim so far aside from doing at least a little something each day. so far it's mostly been tracing/copying, referencing, and """""studying""""" either random things and objects I might find useful, and art or artists I like and enjoy. I clearly have a fuckton to learn but I'm confused on where to start again, or what I could be focusing on, and I know aimlessly practicing the way I am right now isn't terribly efficient. The last time I put effort into practicing I spent a month or two following drawabox lesson 1, and made it partially through lesson 2 before getting frustrated, burning out, and giving up. It taught me to sort of ballpark perspective quite well but it still doesn't feel like enough. I have some basic ideas about a number of fundamentals but haven't given any serious practice towards anything aside from doing what drawabox L1 teaches. I have a LITTLE bit of confidence in my lines and mark-making, but struggle to accurately reference things or draw forms *just* the way I need them to be, either in perspective or in proportion. I also often get confused when attempting to properly sketch, measure, or construct things, having a lot of lines on-screen only seems to overwhelm me. this has led to a bad habit of me usually just foregoing those techniques entirely and going straight to outline. I'm open to any ideas or suggestions on where to go next or what to learn from. Artbooks, videos, lesson courses, or whatever else. Anything leaning more towards teaching intuitive techniques over measured ones would be appreciated, but not required.

I feel like this painting could use a stronger focal point. Because this creature is kinda long and all of it has similar colors and texture and detail, my eyes kinda just wandered for a second, not sure where to look. I suggest making the light source stronger - if you put a stronger shadow on the back part and legs, then the face would stand out more, therefore making it a focal point and making the painting a bit easier to look at.

Boy did I have a rather crappy day, was very tired.

I was able to get some drawing done, but felt a lack of confidence in my abilities feeling as if I wasn't ever going to improve, hell I feel bad for using references on the same monitor now.

Anyway, I did some eye studies, not great at all but something I guess. It took me forever to do her left eye properly though it was weird.

Also a character I saw in a dream last night, but you can see I can't draw people well at all yet.

How do I draw a pipe fold (or any fold, for that matter) from a top-down perspective? Even from an isometric perspective, it's pretty hard. I've been studying figure drawing for a good amount of time now, and I can finally draw a human figure from almost any angle. However, when I try to dress my figures, I encounter the problem that folds are difficult to draw from unusual perspectives, and they also disrupt the figure because they ruin the action line (when drawing a person in baggy clothes, you can't see a dynamic pose or the action line). How do experts, especially those who rely on line art, solve this problem?

I really don't feel confident. Whenever I draw, I can't seem to draw things just the way I want or intend them to be, and need to either constantly erase and re-work until they've lost part of their charm, or just run with the errors made and think of hack-y shortcut solutions to salvage what I've made. this is especially prominent in things which need a degree of accuracy like mechanical design, hands, feet, faces, clothing, proportion, etc. and it gets frustrating quick. It feels like I can't envision the bigger picture as I draw and oftentimes this leads to things becoming lopsided, off-center, out of perspective, poorly composed, or whatever else. There's definitely a lot more I can learn before rendering. Thank you though.

I drew this today, but I think I may need a break.

It's not drawing, but just the season and other stresses in my life that are wearing me down. Drawing is good but I still feel stressed out attention span wise and want to play games more for a week or something.

Would it be okay if I have a break from drawing for about a week? I'll still do small exercises daily just they'll be 30 minute ones just to preserve my motor skills, but more extensive projects will not be started for at least a week.

I dunno why I am asking, just I dunno what's the rules regarding taking breaks at this stage, plus I was demotivated after seeing how good Pewdiepie is after only three weeks, while I am over two months into this and still feel inferior.

>Would it be okay if I have a break from drawing for about a week?
I don't think a week would be bad, but (of course) you do not wanna make a bad habit out of taking breaks. sometimes people convince themselves that it's "just one week" and build a habit of putting important things off only to regret it however long down the road. I'm not saying that's what you are doing, but you should think critically about your motivations.
>plus I was demotivated after seeing how good Pewdiepie is after only three weeks, while I am over two months into this and still feel inferior
there will always be someone better than you and who has seemingly improved faster. all you can do is make corrections to your process when the realization of them arises and try to do your best. past that regret/envy is a cancer that should be dispelled with. also note that you can only move forward from where you are and that it is fruitless pondering too much on what could be. again, have a goal, make corrections where you see fit, and work towards that goal: that's all you can do.

Also Reilly rhythms look ugly when you see them all laid out on the page, but they are very practical when you’re trying to quickly capture the planes of the body. np bro, the waist is the part between the ribcage and the pelvis, or as Will Weston calls it: the squishy part
for the pelvis I use a box or a cylinder depending on the angle, in this case I had opted for the cylinder but later changed it to a box, for the legs I imagine the top edge of the box as being the illic crest and the sphere at the bottom being the head of the femur, from there I make some cylinders for the thighs
pic rel was an old hip-leg exercise that I did,

My beloved Feng Zhu,

Every day spent with you is a journey into a world where love, understanding and mutual respect are king. You are like a star in my night sky, shining with a brilliance that guides my thoughts and my steps.

With this message, I offer you a unique drawing, a work of art created with patience and devotion. It's not just a drawing of an insect, but a meticulous depiction of the complex beauty of nature, which thousands of construction lines have helped to create.

May this drawing remind you how dear you are to my heart and how much I cherish every moment I spent masturbating to your podcasts.

It takes a lot of time and alot of despair. You will hit the floor many times over many years but as long as you don't quit you will at some point get good. Motivation is fickle and will not carry you to where you want to be so you just have to make it a habit instead of relying on that. Small breaks are perfectly okay too.

Once you "get" form and it feels like you draw on a literal real 3d object, you are on your way to be a good artist. The first step is to create a box. Then a sphere, then an egg. Then a cylinder, then a bending pipe, then a torso, then a leg. Always draw cross contour lines to represent the perspective of what you draw.

It looks like you're drawing what you see without really trying to understand what you see.
There's ways of drawing (gesture, box forms, contour lines, etc.) that are exercises on understanding versus observing. Alongside this you should also study muscle and skeletal anatomy so that you can understand what's going on underneath the skin. It's not as fun as just going to a life drawing class and drawing but it's what will make you improve fast.
Find a book that has lessons and exercises and you'll improve even faster.
You can always do a healthy balance of this and what you're already doing too so that it's not just grind all the time.

I was attempting to reproduce the negative spaces that Morpho presented.

Four of the toes are drawn the same, but each of them are smaller than the other - or have you never seen your own in real life? The big toe has some variation, but has generally the same form as the rest of the other toes.

If I nail the negative space of one toe, that's enough to cover the rest of them, is it not?

Conversely, I could nail the number of toes, of which there are at least seven on each foot the last time I checked, but the rest of my memory copy could still be fucked up, and what good would that be?

Every day is a step closer to victory.

Applying values to colors is also something I'm learning to do. Specifically, using Screen and Multiply blending modes to apply highlights and shadows to the composition without making the blocks of color muddy or a grey mess.

Pretty good photo study, I think the head could be a bit "taller" if that's the right word, the zipper placement could also be more accurate and moved to the right. One thing I would try to do as well is instead of using sketchy lines to form the outline, try to use one singular line to build confidence and control. and then use a whole bunch of sketchy lines for the shading. Speaking of shadding, don't be afraid to for for darker values. In the photo the jacket mustache/beard eyelashes and eyebrows I think should all be darker to paint a clearer picture. One last thing the ear's inner shapes could be more accurate but still pretty good

same here, which is why i want to help you
there's a lot of things i cn say, but i think the two most important ones are:
>emotion and ambition alone are not enough to keep you going, they kickstart your drive but you need to replace them with routine down the line
>vagueness + overwhelming scale will kill your motivation, to get anywhere you need to divide large tasks into clear, smaller ones, sometimes down to the "grab pencil, take paper" level
also, always have a second option ready for when you either don't feel like doing option #1 or when you finish it, that way you don't have to drop your rhythm by looking for the next thing to do
