The amount per year isn't representative of how much I did, those were just a random sample. I've been stagnant for two years, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I try to analyze what's not going well and practice it- ex: my coloring is muddy and washed out so I tried to learn more about blocking in big shapes. And I know I fall back into comfort zones, so I make efforts to branch out every so often. I think at the beginning I was better about not overthinking it and just mindlessly going through figure drawings, so maybe its a millage issue now? I try to do more conscious practicing but it doesn't seem like its doing anything. I just feel frustrated and like my brain is messed up, I'd try anything at this point

Started December last year so more or less started this year. 90% are like reference copies. Honestly, I'm a bit disappointed at my progress. I should have far more drawings if all I did was copy references. Could have had more gains that way. Like, I've seen professional artists just shit out canvas after canvas of drawings and I've only manage to fill 1-2 really.

I'm confident if I just keep increasing the amount and actually add variety to the drawings, I'll start to see more bigger gains. ( Perhaps actually draw men for a change! or fully render stuff )

This is 2d, the shadows were painted separately and layered over flat colors. I actually don't like how it turned out.
I switched completely to line and color because it gives a nicer result in much less amount of time and I'm also demoralized by the AI too much to grind rendering skills.

I find the old version much more appealing. The new one lacks the level of anatomical accuracy that I'd expect given the amount of detail in the picture. The tubular torso in particular throws me off, as well as the misplaced abdominal bulge and how her head absolutely dwarves her ribcage and pelvis. This particular type of stylization is reminiscent of western lolicon art, while the original felt more authentic.

I really like your art anon, very nice, very cool. More movement would be cool, I also suffer from character standing in a void syndrome lol. I think the part of the reason the icefisher image looks nice is because of the colours, but you also have a character in a real environment interacting with the world. It invites the viewer to think about why he's there and what that world is like. :^)

To me, there seems to be a better sense of depth and atmosphere in your newer pieces, like the characters are both engaging with you, the viewer and at the same time very much placed in their own world. I feel drawn in as a result, you are accomplishing a similar thing with perspective in many of the other pieces but way the figures relate to the background really sells it.

I made so little in the middle of the year because i hated everything I made. Coming out of that period i felt uncomfortable with my style, uncomfortable with any subject matter I found interesting, etc. I feel like I am slowly becoming comfortable with my art again. Some months I only had decent drawings that were studies, but not much else, and that's really disappointing.

I feel silly trying to start again at 29, always used to draw as a kid but stopped because video games and brainrot. Now that I have kids I feel like there's no time to catchup. >> No.6986295

Imo the noise ain't too bad and kitchens always have good tunes pumping that get you in the zone, plus you have to keep your ears open for people walking behind you with pots of hot oil.
It's the heat and time sensitive nature of the job that seems to drive people crazy. Tbh I was happy to weather that shit and I was good at focusing under pressure when the orders started piling up, but it was dealing with other chefs that drove me out.
I worked with a few chefs who didn't give a shit, they just focused on their work and service would be smooth as fuck with no problems, but a majority of head chefs are ego-tripping retards who will scream about the tiniest details because they want to RP as Gorden Ramsey.
Always pay close attention on how old heads act in your industry because that's who you're gonna turn into one day.

Those October portraits look quite good compared to everything else. I wouldn't say you're completely stagnant but the progress is definitely minimal. Have you done any studies of artists you like? Also wondering how much reference you use for your stylized stuff. The recent portraits prove that you can make something good from a ref, which leads me to assume you go mostly off of imagination with the stylized stuff.

Things I would recommend off the bat: Go back to basics and practice your ability to draw basic and more complex forms (ones not as complex as the human body or other organic shapes) in different perspectives. Your values need far more contrast and you shouldn't be afraid of going much darker. You seem to draw shadows with only hard edges or only soft edges when you should be mixing them based on how harsh the change in plane is. Think about composition before you start drawing the figure. Make studies of references a lot more.

I think you need to switch up your tool set or programs.

These are very honest drawings, it looks like you are off to a good start if you want to keep at it. Good luck to you in the coming year.

I want to believe I’m GMI but my average likes on a post on Twitter is 14 and my account has been around for 2 years. Internet hates me

Thank you this is helpful. I have not done an artist study in a while but I believe I would do well to try and mimic a process through to the end like that. I used rough poses for references. I think my brain sees shapes much easier than lines and so if I approach the image like that it tends to come out better like those quick portraits. They were done in around half an hour but I think they hold up better too. I just never know how to translate that to stylized work. I agree on all your points.

I use Sai, I have CSP too but I believe it's a user issue and me using soft brushes instead of me committing to hard edges at the start
