That's what I like about people who actually post their work, you know when to listen and not to listen because their work speaks on their behalf regardless of whatever bullshit they're spouting. His work screams being a pretentious kruger-tard.

I'm not watching whatever shot that is, but I fucking love line weight
It adds a tremendous amount of character and appeal to a drawing

Nah fuck off. Line weight for me turned my drawings from "wtf why is everything I do so flat?" to "I can depict depth in an empty environment.". Totally saved my ass and I'd die defending it.

what is with this all-or-nothing mentality on /ic/?
>its trash, ignore everything they say
>its godlike, listen to everything they say
are you even here to discuss art and learn? Or are you just arguing for the sake of winning?

>> No.6926037

you only really need to commit to line weight if your strictly using black lines only. As in no flat values(digitally screen tones/painting) or black ink textures ( ie hatching/stippling/feathering). most mangaka have access to csp so they are able to create focal points in images by applying a screen tone to the object of interest.
line weight is just a tool. thats it. this is unironically why none of you are going to make it. you see one technique an artist can use out of a million different methods and when one retard online points out one case where an artist DIDNT use it and created an appealing drawing you throw your hands up in the air and act like youve been lied to this entire time.
you are all so FUCKING STUPID it beguiles me how you are able to continue in this discipline.

I don't see anything wrong with the concepts depicted in that demo.
If you are talking about the subject matter instead of the drawing techniques involved, then you are mentally retarded.

The problem with it is not the drawing itself, nor is it really the techniques it presents -- it's the limited nature of this one drawing that leads to a limited approach to line work that newbies might erroneously take after viewing the image without knowing any better. There's many, many approaches to line art, and that is just one of them. It's not even a great example of good line work; despite using a variety of techniques, the end result he has is dull and lifeless. It could really use a touch of looseness to the lines, as they are they're quite boring to look at. They convey no emotion, or energy. In a word, they're "inexpressive", which to me is a critical flaw.
Attaching some (old) work.

This is animation. It's easier to keep your lines consistent if you don't use line-weight.
Doesn't apply to illustration in general.

Why do you make such dumb statements if you are aware of how dumb they are?
