If you are a /int/ermediate or /beg/inner in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the drawthread with fundamental exercises.

>TRY TO BE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK.
When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction
to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help.
When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

Remember:
before criticising any of my work I post, I will require this information about you
1. your full name - name and surname
2. the address of your current residence
3. the address of your workplace
4. your marital status and the name of your spouse, if any
5. your annual wage, before and after tax
6. your license plate
7. your place of birth
8. the names of your parents
9. your credit card number and the expiration date
and finally you MUST post your work.
If but one of these points is not met, or, if I am unable to find a Wikipedia page about you, that matches the information you have given, that lists you as a prominent artist in any artistic field, all your critique directed towards me or my work is invalid and actually the opposite of what you say is true and my work is perfect and devoid of any mistakes.
Also, when you do criticise my work, you can not use any word included in the following list because your post will automatically get filtered by my automatic filtering system. You must treat me like a toddler when you criticise my work or I will cry.

Let's keep it nice and civil in here, folks.

My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.

Been doing a good drawing streak for practice. Planning on posting on /DAD/ as well.

Face practice, with a fineliner/tech pen method I've been using recently. Future pieces may not have too much ink blocking, aside from greys. Especially for the full body practs. Also face/micron like contours, I dig those.

29 right now, picked up drawing march this year. I always had the urge to draw as a teen when I was doodling stick figures and copying anime, but I wanted to get into a lot of things back then. Ultimately I got into nothing in particular. Now by chance I'm back to drawing and want to make it stick.
I have no great ambitions, but if I could eventually make it a side-gig that'd be swell. For now I just draw.

I find the similarities between the topics of learning to program and learning to draw to be pretty funny.
>everyone has a different idea of how to start, and will jump to tell you it
>many of these ideas are contradictory
>dizzying amount of resources, books, classes for beginners
>none of these resources fully address all the things you're wondering or need to know
>can barely ask questions because you're barely familiar with the concepts you're asking about
>the people who made your favorite works are almost never the same people whose main activity is telling people how to do it (educators, programming bloggers, etc)
>the people who've made your favorite work sometimes give advice that directly contradicts advice from people known for telling people how to do it (picrel, fowler writes books about how to program and carmack made doom)
>no way to distinguish good advice from bad
>bad advice is either more common or equally common as good advice
>endless arguments about whose advice/resource is better (i feel like i've seen this more on /ic/ but some programmers will say their style is the Objectively Correct one)
>"everyone needs to learn this specific thing" even though it's clearly not going to be relevant for everyones specific goals
>"just code projects/just draw"
>worshipping classic texts/authors (SICP, Loomis) (not saying they're necessarily bad)

Try comparing yourself to where you were a year ago, you should definately see improvement overtime, try drawing for at least 30 minutes every day. Push yourself slightly outside your comfort zone and draw things you feel that are slightly out of reach. Or just aim for photo realism to teach yourself about how things look

Try to study people who you think are smooth. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast, that quote applies to drawing as well. If you have to undo 10 times before you get the line you want you're going too fast. Practice and intent will help you to get the line quality you're going for. Gomenasai, my name is Ken-Sama.

I’m a 27 year old American Otaku (Anime fan for you gaijins). I draw Anime and Manga on my tablet, and spend my days perfecting my art and playing superior Japanese games. (Disgaea, Final Fantasy, Persona series)

I train with my Katana every day, this superior weapon can cut clean through steel because it is folded over a thousand times, and is vastly superior to any other weapon on earth. I earned my sword license two years ago, and I have been getting better every day.

I speak Japanese fluently, both Kanji and the Osaka dialect, and I write fluently as well. I know everything about Japanese history and their bushido code, which I follow 100%

When I get my Japanese visa, I am moving to Tokyo to attend a prestigious High School to learn more about their magnificent culture. I hope I can become an animator for Studio Ghibli or a game designer!

I own several kimonos, which I wear around town. I want to get used to wearing them before I move to Japan, so I can fit in easier. I bow to my elders and seniors and speak Japanese as often as I can, but rarely does anyone manage to respond.

Wish me luck in Japan!

Ehm… okay. I don’t think I’m all that great, but I hope this is helpful in some small way. It’s basically vilppu/Hampton, except I'll sometimes just slap down a form without really finding the rhythm/gesture for it, if it’s like a really foreshortened limb or a weird pose with weird overlaps. Rather than trying to learn how I do it, you’re probably better off learning from the dudes I learned from, and then just getting a lot of mileage.

When I do it well, it’s usually because I get the gesture and proportion and tilt of the main masses, find good rhythms for the limbs, then start constructing.

I managed to get you a (shitty) video of those gestures specifically.
https://files.catbox.moe/a0eb56.mov
This also shows what I meant when I said I approached copying that really stylized drawing like any other gesture.

(Video looks fucked because I had to export it from 4K x 4K canvas and a 39 minute video with hundreds of gestures. Procreate exported it in pretty low res to begin with anyway. Sorry. Pic related btw.)

Burne Hogarth studier guy here...this is gonna be my last one, just really bored of the figure drawing book and want to move on.

I was suggested to do Vlippu and Burt Dodson next, though I need something to study every day at least while I'm improving. Should I try drawing real people next? Or should I do Vlippu/Burt Dodson and then try it once I know a bit more about drawing?

Anyway, you can see here I tried to use construction cylinders for the legs, but didn't for the arms because I was getting tired and wanted to stop. It took me over an hour to do as I was (as I said) tired and was trying to keep it as accurate as possible, though I messed up slightly as the legs feel slightly too small compared to the rest of the body :/

I'm glad I started learning how to draw properly, I got further than I ever did years ago, but I still have ways to go and am still a bit anxious about stepping out of my comfort zone at times (hence why I was just doing studies all the time rather than drawing my own stuff).

I may redo a bird drawing study I did over a month ago soon that may be a good place to go next to see how far I've progressed.

hello. I started past month I am having problems with the box method
I am reading hampton and the problems I am having (the ones I can notice myself): I don't have any idea regarding the thickness of the arm/leg, I don't know where in the box the leg cylinder is inserted, I also have problems connecting the ribcage with the pelvis. my external oblique doesn't look natural at all (should've taken a pic with him boxed, sorry)

also, I googled and there are a few pics of how much the spine can rotate/bend/move, is there any rule to follow regarding that?

I'm doing the box method to practice perspective because a brazilian youtuber said it also teaches me some important concepts while I am practicing figure drawing

also, is my eraser atrocious or am I retarded?

how the hell do I actually start? I've tried briefly on and off over the years but I never make it to the point where I'm just content with cooking random shit up. I'll usually just do exercises for a week or two, try to draw something I like, get embarrassed, then stop. I realize this is a retarded way to go about it, but it happens every time. I desperately need a creative outlet but everything I do embarrasses me, even if I'm the only person who sees it.

honestly this didn't need a redraw, yours was pretty decent already. only things I felt were wrong was the thigh way too thick for the girls frame, and the hand being too small. by the way, since you're drawing trad and seem to have trouble with hands, try to draw them as if they're 3 or 4 finger mittens, it's what I do when doing trad myself since you can't afford to erase the same place too much. of course, easier said than done but bunching up the fingers like this is a good solution for the hands problem I think
a few things on stylization
>try to make the cheeks puff around the height of the point of the nose, otherwise you might end up emphasizing the cheekbones which is kind of a western style trait
>for the hair, try to use these flat, ribbon shapes instead of the spiky bundle. spiky works for some hairstyles of course, but in general, ribbons suit girls better
>you should emphasize the upper eyelids over the lower ones. draw them darker and bolder
>you can have a slimmer neck as a way to stylize it and make the figure more feminine looking
hope this helps somehow

I think you're doing pretty well anon. What specifically have you been trying to improve or focus on in your studies? I think your feet are really fucked, do some studies and make them have less swollen kankles. I might be wrong, but your proportions seem to tend on the long side for torsos/abdomen. Rib cage seems too far from the hips, especially on the two drawings on the right.

>What specifically have you been trying to improve or focus on in your studies?
This one had a focus on the rib cage/torso as I struggle to consistently draw it from imagination. I also tend to make the gesture stiff when I draw from reference so that's a constant focus, as well as trying to properly display the 'depth' and form of the torso.
Not sure if I should be shading them or represent them with lines.
>feet are really fucked
kek I'm trying. Feet along with legs are the parts I still haven't really 'studied'. I'll make those a focus soon.
>proportions
I usually tend to make the limbs too short, but I'd have to look at the refs again. It's one of those things I only start to notice when I'm done drawing.

I'm just a beg so take this with a grain of salt. But that sounds like a bad workflow. Once you have all your basic construction shapes laid in before you start doing any sort of detail or features, you ought to be verifying your proportions are accurate before continuing since it's a problem you've identified. If it's just sketches like this, I would just measure quickly to check, but if it's intended to be a more complete drawing, taking a step away to get fresh eyes or posting it for critique before continuing on also help.

A ton of low-tech companies have recently been trying to catch up with a higher tier competition (namely China who puts AI models into fucking everything) by increasing how much they spend on R&D, it's fairly easy to get an engineer job in a factory if only because barely anyone knows this is even an option.

The projects aren't as glamorous as deploying a SaaS webapp over kubernetes or whatever Google gets up to but you can end up doing IoT, AI, robotics and a ton of math if you play it right.

The pay sucks dick on the other hand but the job will be in some remote area where rent is dirt cheap so it usually works out.
