What's a good way to find people for art trades? I've already traded a few times with most people I know, and want to do more, but randos always seem to come with the risk of getting literal first-week-/beg/s or people with hyper autistic fetish OCs. I just want to draw some normal characters.

Art trades are for begs. More skilled artists are busy spacing themselves for commissions or patreon shit

I've done commissions before. I don't like them because it's too constrained and transactional. My day job pays the bills.

And I don't draw coom so patreon isn't an option (and again, it's that whole business thing where I just want to draw and chill).

You think I didn't check that first before making this thread?

It is what it is.
Also post work. Just curious what you have anyhow.

I would but unfortunately I've poisoned the well by shit talking the other thread, so now this is just for venting

>> No.6913513

unfortunately, there's only like 50 regulars at most in this entire board, so if you shittalk one thread, you're pretty much shittalking everyone here.

>>6913475
Listen OP. I was a regular in a lot of the OC threads but unlike what >>6913513 said I honestly think nobody would care outside of the 1 or 2 schizos dedicated to running ppl off the board via manufactured "drama".

With that all said, it really do be like that sometimes
The threads always have a renaissance period and then said schizos run to shit it up driving everyone away. Maybe pop in there every once in a while for a quick browse but other than that most other websites (toybox, deviantart, etc.) are total dogshit.

desu the best way to do it is to just make some friends. If people like you, they'll be more willing to do things for/with you.
If people don't know you, then you have to give them better incentive to work with you, even for a trade. It wouldn't be worth to choose a stranger to art trade with over a friend I have fun with or like.
Alternatively, join Art Fight or do some kind of Secret Santa event in an art community or something. There's lots of those around.

Idk. desu I think I've stagnated. I know if I put in the effort, I could do way better, but I lack the patience to spend more than a few hours on something, and drawing shitposts gives me more amusement.
The most I improved from a technical standpoint was when I took art classes in university as an elective, but that was because I was forced to grind fundies for hours a week with charcoal and paints.
But drawing is more of a hobby to have fun and destress, so I'm not too worried about my skill as long as I can get my message across.
Thanks for the encouragement friend :3

what is the point of art trades? you exchange artwork and post stuff from someone else on your blog, am I getting this right? what's the point?

>> No.6917849

>>6917834
No? You draw something for someone else, and they draw something for you. Can be OCs or favorite characters or pets or whatever.

>Never ever do requests and very rarely do art trades
>Do commissions frequently
>Suddenly get a DM from randoms
>"hey wanna do art trades? :)"
>Check his art page
>literal beg-tier shitty artwork about autistic fetish
>only had about 13 posts throughout his entire account's lifespan
>Notices him asking for art trades with other artists who are significantly better than him as well.
Yeah, how about no you shitty as beglet? You should be paying me to even check your page.

>>6913334
Yeah. Sometimes I look at the peeps asking for art trade and thinking like, man, nobody would take these begs' art even for free, and they have the gall to ask other artists who are leagues ahead of them for art trades? Sometimes I wish I could just say right in front of them that I dont want to do art trade with them purely because their art is shit.

>> No.6920368

>>6920264
OP here, that scenario is why I don't like the OC redraw thread and what I tend to get when I shotgun the question "anyone want to art trade?". Basically why I made this thread in the first place.
Any time I instigate the trade its only ever with people around or below my same skill level because I just like drawing for other people.

>> No.6920829

>>6920368
Also, if you're an artists it's kinda retarded to do trades or buy commissions. Like, if I have an idea or something I'd like to get drawn, I'll just do it myself. Why give a free idea to some random faggot and deny myself the clout and practice hours that come with working on a new drawing?

not OP. It's a game / motivation trick as far as I can tell - if you don't enjoy it or you're already motivated then you might as well draw by yourself.

Post cool shit and you will get cool shit back, the irony is that you can't convince people on your level or above to draw art trades or the like for you, yet you look down on beginners' artist for the same thing. Reading this convinces me that you're ungrateful for the little things you do get from others.

although I've gotta admit I have to be in the mood for it. a lot of times I just do it as a warm up because I had trouble getting going that day.
