If you are a /beg/inner or /int/ermediate in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the drawthread with fundamental exercises.

>TRY TO BE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK.
When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction
to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help.
When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

You need to already have good accuracy and understanding of form to get anything out of Bridgememe's scribbles. For now you'd be better off with Vilpuu, Loomis or Bargue.

You NEED to draw cubes. Maybe apples and all that still life stuff thats being taught in art schools to get a better understanding of form and shading. Then id suggest doing skulls and head sculptures. And only after you are comfortable with those id suggest you choosing an anatomy book and studying it. For me, its Bammes.

This anon sums it up >>6876507, but there are also learning reasons. In this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syVKP3r0D8I)) he advises students to begin with gouache because blending is harder and it forces you to take better and clearer decisions regarding shapes. I believe Jeff Watts says something along the same lines, specially in regards to portraits, where shapes and forms are really important. According to Craig, you should work in gouache for 1-2 years before taking on more advanced techniques, like oil. Since it's more practical and cheaper, like that anon said, I saw no reason not to follow this advice.

First off, have you ever seen any Irshad drawing? They are terrible. It's generally a good guideline to stay clear of art "teachers" who can't draw to save their mother's life.

Second, there are better resources to learn literally anything you specifically wanna draw. Figure drawing? Hampton, Vilppu or Huston. Vehicles? Scott Robertson. Even if you really wanna draw just those random animals in a void, you should be doing Dynamic Sketching instead, which is the much better resource DaB did a poor job copying.

In synthesis, the first 2 lessons are okay, but it's generally a bad resource that won't make you better at drawing what you want and will make you burnout from drawing boring stuff.

I hate drawing. There’s no other reason for why I don’t draw. I got the loomis books I get the form and theory, but I sit down at a table, and the chair’s wrong, or the table’s too short, or I get fidgety, or my hand wobbles and I just get so fucking frustrated at the whole thing I want to get out of my seat and leave.

I don’t really want to learn art, but I have these ideas in my head that play when I hear these songs I like, and they’re so vivid and flashy and they make me want to jump up and close my eyes imagining I’m that limber cartoon character zooming down a hallway, spinning his magical flying stick in the air to slow down, and then zoom down the other hall on that line from The Killers’ Flesh and Bone going ‘And I’m turning on a Diii~~ii~~me’ and I can see it, but I don’t have the skills to make it. And I can’t even imagine this thing’s face, I can’t pick the features I want. Like this idea just exists as animations in my head that go nowhere and I’m trying to grind a comic that gets to them, because I don’t have a tablet, let alone an idea of what are the 40-50 chapters to get to what I want to make in the actual story. But like, the story isn’t fleshed out beyond major beats it’s just music videos of fantasy openings or pivotal scenes of my story, that are inspired out by art. But I don’t make the art, I make what I can and what I can makes me not want to art until I get depressed. Then maybe when I get out of a funk, I’ll draw a big thing or a lot of small things until the rut hits again and I don’t want to draw anything again.

How do I just always turn on the art bug? I mean, I gotta learn this crap myself, clearly, I can’t afford to pay an artist to make this and even if I could I’m too schizo to keep doing it, so this doesn’t go anywhere I just hate the chair or the this or that and I make too many wobbly lines and I just stop.

I only do art after being suicidal. How to always art?

Starting to get a tad demotivated with how contradictory a lot of the advice on here is.

I am essentially just doing very crude studies of the Burne Hogarth figure drawing book, mainly to get better motor skills for drawing as well as get more used to it, using references. However when I shared some of the very crude (because I am a beginner) studies I did, while some pointed out that I (clearly) improved from my earlier ones, others would say I lacked form and perspective (which I don't see is the point of some of these there isn't really too much perspective stuff to work with) and told me I needed to do something but without elaborating on why, as well as one telling me I had to do traditional paper art but again, not explaining why.

I'll get to page 60 of the Burne Hogarth book and then try something else.

Here is a study I did of the hand, I just kinda...copied what I saw and attempted to make sense of it.

>> No.6877794

>>6877781
Actually to avoid seeming dishonest this is what WAS actually explained but...it doesn't really help and even if I did use traditional paper it would not result in better results:

"spend some time with physical media and the reasons why it's more suitable for learning will become self evident. i'm know you think you're taking your time, but you're really not. you can't draw slow on a computer, you don't have the dexterity. hence, pick up a pencil.
and it's good not to be precious with your art, you're right. but that's no excuse to not take your studies seriously. so i'll say it again. slow down, really try to reproduce the reference."

The last part however, while some of these studies were rushed due to time constraints, I did spend time on many of them trying to make them as accurate as possible.

It's up to you what you do, but the tradshill's advice is good in my experience. Two advantages of paper and pencil:
1. Cheap and easy to pick up, you do not have to deal with distractions like your other PC applications and it's easier to avoid performance anxiety because the materials are so cheap. In short, it's easier to make yourself draw.
2. Paper stabilization and being able to see your pencil tip with no lag on the drawing. Even after 2 years of using a tablet my dexterity is better with pencil on paper vs digital. Better dexterity > better results > confidence.

>> No.6877813

You however have less room for error and it doesn't sound like the advantages really are that important.

>> No.6877820

>>6877816
Yeah but it does get pretty messy, and you won't be able to erase small line errors either as well.

I'll consider it at some point but I think the issue is I need the computer on for references anyway so the distraction problem is moot, unless I go out and draw real people which...I really don't want to do as I don't like interacting or looking at strangers, unless they are just a photograph.

Ok, I'm gonna help you:

Boxes are often used in construction based figure drawing approaches. You're right about that! Your mistake is thinking that means you have to study boxes BEFORE figure drawing.

Let's take two begs for an example: Mr. Crab and Mr. Chad. They both wanna learn figure drawing, but decide upon different approaches. Mr. Crab decides to study boxes and Mr. Chad studies Michael Hampton's Analytical Figure Drawing. In Hampton's course, you learn a step by step process to figure drawing that has you drawing potentially 4 boxes EVERYTIME you draw a figure. By the end of the course, if I'm not mistaken, Mr. Chad will have drawn about 150 boxes alongside with a lot of gesture and anatomy! All this while Mr. Crab draws 250 or so boxes by themselves. So you'll have Mr. Chad drawing good boxes, having learned a lot about the things he really wants to draw, and Mr. Crab won't even be good in drawing boxes for figure drawing, because he'll have no sense of proportion and how the boxes relate to each other in the context of construction figure drawing.

Is drawing drapery difficult for a beg, like picrel? I mean, Im not asking for permission, but I have many options to study and don't want to choose the most difficult.

Also, another question, is there a threat of doxxing/harm from posting here? The stuff I draw is not morally questionable, but it could identify me (lets say via finding my account, then tracing to me if someone tried hard). I like this place but dont want to get too comfortable.

drapery is a lot like anatomy but 10x easier, the only reason why its hard is because 1) its not talked about a lot 2) not as many books and 3) its 90% simplification/shape design

for drapery you only have to learn about 7 folds and different materials, that's it

Drawabox. it is essential for you. Just do lesson 0, 1, and 2. No more and no less. The first thing you practice is drawing straight lines with confidence using your whole arm. It is really helping me.

Assuming I'm a pretty blody beginner, are there any tutorials on how to use graphite to create textures for landscape drawings? So for real morons, which show me exactly how to guide the pencil for which shape?
The textures in my texture sample are looking all a bit "uniform" and not realy as different shapes.
