**Strive for quantity AND quality.**

Anime Studying:
>Copy anime references exactly and draw them from memory. Use illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.
>Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.
>Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.
>Number your attempts and link to your previous posts.
>Critiquers should lead by example by posting their studies.

General Anime Style Discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Draw copies from good anime styled references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

My first attempt of a Krenz accuracy study. Didn’t correct anything because I wanted to see how close I could get, and honestly is better than I would have thought.
But I am at a bit of a loss as to how exactly you can “measure” the length of shapes. Like, in life drawing I can hold up my pencil and turn it to get stuff like “it’s 1.5x taller than the width”, but here, I am lost. In the YouTube video in the OP, he seems to just go off of angle and then “wing it”. Anybody got any advice? It is it just a matter of grinding? Thanks!

Yes, if you look at non-preplanned speed paints of prolific artists, they make small corrections throughout the entire course of the video.
People who primarily do pencil or transitioned from trad to digital will make less mistakes.
In the audio world, no matter what fancy effects and programs are at play, the advice always "use your ears".
Here is no different; use your eyes.

His method isn't anything revolutionary, but it's something that can work well if you're able to stick with it. If people needed to hear it from a guy with a funny hat then clearly it's for them. He does have a way with words, a good salesman.
You could probably learn a thing or two about how to market yourself like him, also he draws pretty well too, so he has both going for him.

Couldn't get past the first step of finding a singular artist to study. The ones I picked are either way above my skill level or I lost motivation for partway. You really need to be singularly autistic enough to stick with one for the whole three months or it's pointless. It's the main driving force of the method.

>how to market
I'm not trying to sell anything or bring attention to my stuff at the moment, but marketing knowledge might be good to reference in future. Are there any resources on how to do this aside from naoki?

>> No.6883353

>>6883331
Look to your more successful peers and focus on what you're marketing towards. From what i've seen from other artists it's usually one or a combination of a few of these elements:
>Having an approachable disposition, whether by being funny, interesting, or nice to your audience. And a consistent social media presence.
>Being active in artist circles, fandoms or trends. That can include things like participating in events irl or online.
>Offer a product or service. It doesn't have to be unique, could be tutorials/advice/brushes or anything else that people would find interesting.
>Above all else, art that's sufficiently skilled enough or a style that's eye-catching for the niche you're in.

Then you just sort of build up from there. There's still an element of luck to it though, being noticed is one of the big breaks you're looking for. But constantly putting yourself out there does give you more opportunity to /be/ noticed eventually. I don't really know if there are art-specific books or resources out there, this is just what I gathered from successful artists i've looked up to.

>> No.6883371

>social media presence
I have a pixiv that I update every couple of months or so with 200 followers but it has no theme and I just upload random shit to it, should I try to do something with this account or just abandon it and restart?
>art that's sufficiently skilled enough
How do you measure this? All I know is I am still /beg/ and far removed from being able to make anything appealing to a general audience.

>> No.6883386

>>6883371
Pixiv is tough to grow on unless you're quite good or if you're lucky imo. Still, I wouldn't recommend starting over since you already have the numbers and they're small enough that changing gears wouldn't alienate that crowd if you tried to be more focused (same advice i'd say for any other platform). Twitter/X is kind of in the shitter right now but it is still one of the best places to grow an audience. At least if you do it now before it falls apart and you can redirect those people to your Pixiv later.
>How do you measure this?
It's pretty hard to define because of lots of factors like appeal and luck of the draw. But it's easier to say that you don't have to be a Mika Pikazo-tier artist to really make it? Just keep improving for now and it will lead you to drawing things you like and making a corner for yourself.

Anyway, you could be the anime equivalent of Michelangelo right now but have little to no communication skills then you won't get farther than if you got lucky and landed a good corporate artist job. It's possible to get work on raw skill alone, but realistically speaking if you desire to maintain an audience then you need an outward presence that's approachable. Feel free to fake it, i'm not saying you can or can't be genuine about it as long as you can draw people in for whatever purpose.

theres no point for the current asg to exist tbqh, if you are a complete day 1 beg you need to study your fundies that's not for debate, so go the /beg/ route rtight? well a lot of begs don't get that need that instead they want to draw chinky cartoons right from the start, and they post their cringe here, where they get mislead by salty copytrannies that encourage their weakness suck lack of will to do the needful and instead just copy cus gets them insta gratification to ''draw'' something that looks close to their goals.

so what to do isntead? just create a an /alt/, /salt/ ver with anime style, just like these gens are not focused on teaching you how to draw these specifics instead in sharing and getting crit, while you can get tips, is not the focus of the thread so art trives in these gens unlike here, where you have begs trying to be copy machines but failling misserably to draw anything from zero.

Stomach rendering is mostly fine, could use a little ambient lighting at the end of the shadow (In this case I guess a lighter grey from the BG to make the form stand out. I would also try to make the light source consistent, some parts aren't shaded consistently, stomach suggests lighting from the top right but the hands arms and breasts are shaded in neutral/ top lighting. Since you're focusing on the stomach, feel free to ignore the other tips and just draw neuron activating photo references lol good luck

bros how can we even compete with AI? It literally perfected anime art. What should I do to be original and not get mistaken for AI art when I draw?

It feels like it's not even worth to be good at rendering now becuase if you get really good at it people will just think it's AI now.

it just does 10% of what art is. It does it well but it's still just 10%. Sometimes, when an artist makes art that looks like the 10% that AI does well and I come across their art by chance, I can have a hesitation: is this AI or human? But, most of the time, in the vast majority of cases, I have no doubt that what I'm looking at is human, it doesn't even cross my mind. There's still a lot that AI can't do, try ambitious, original, bizarre compositions; try complex angles, pose your characters in an original way in the environments in which they find themselves, draw very dynamic poses; make your characters interact with things or with other characters; draw unusual facial expressions that describe complex emotions, puts the emphasis on hands, and so on.

One Piece, one of the most successful manga in existence, does not owe its success to any great artistic accomplishment. I don't think the point of it is to straight up learn to draw from imagination. The observation bit is accurate for my goals (just learning to accurately copy stuff), but for me what I really want to get out of the krenz thing is an ability to break things down into pleasing shapes using the CSI. Sort of like pic related. I really like his and his instructors' linework (maybe a better example: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Pm4ao1)) even outside of anime.
I'm sure that just trying to copy stuff accurately isn't going to hurt my /beg/ ass anyway, as long as I don't expect miracles. As for drawing from imagination I am also doing the whole "simplify objects into simple shapes enclosed in a rectangular prism and then rotate them in imagination" thing, I think it'll be way more useful for that specifically.
But yeah I don't know what to think about the drawing without reference thing, I'm just doing it since it was in the video. Maybe it's supposed to guide me specifically towards the kind of shape decomposition that is easy to remember and reproduce? But really I just asked for advice since maybe some anon further ahead of me sees something important that I'm missing. The thing I really need now more than anything is to just sit my ass down and draw whatever.

I was given the advice of finding a common throughline between maybe 10 artists that i've followed for a long time and/or inspire me to draw. And then narrow down which singular one (or two if you can manage) that sort of hits as much as those elements and fundamentals that you aspire to. Then go from there. I was doing that recently myself to try the 3 month challenge again.
