If you are a /beg/inner or /int/ermediate in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the drawthread with fundamental exercises.

>TRY TO BE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK.
When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction
to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help.
When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

I've legitimately never been able to commit myself to any serious hobby and have gotten lazy over the years with my only actual one which is writing and the only reason I'm good at writing is because I wanted people to be able to understand what the fuck I was saying and I wanted to write good stories because I thought I'd never be able to make them in a visual medium, but that's it. I've never been able to commit to a serious routine, schedule, or anything. I just sit in my room online doing basically nothing.
Everything I try doing looks so daunting and impossible. I tried learning Source Filmmaker as a teen and I gave up immediately because it looked too complicated. I tried learning how to make my own games in game maker, gave up immediately and never touched it. Even something like drawing just looks so complex and impossible. This is what it's like for everything I try doing.

Yes to both. Still can't do anything. A higher dosage of adderall, anti anxiety medication making me shake less and another anti anxiety medications. This is on top of a booster dosage I'm taking each day too. My mind and my body locks up and prevents me from actually doing anything. Usually either out of anxiety or my mind and my body simply just locking up and telling me "What the fucks the point"? And just making me look back at my phone again or just stimming and staring at a wall.

Legitimately NOTHING has worked. I felt better for a week and then nothing. This has gone back all the way since I was a teenager too. I had thyroid problems that got fixed, but this never got any better.

I don't know how to get the motivation to do anything. Even when I do happen to try my hardest in doing something, it's always half as good or even just 2% as good as anybody else doing the same thing, because me being purely retarded and unable to learn or focus. Even when I try, nothing good happens. My entire body feels sore and I rest for the whole day. I've been working out for 2 years and lost 20 pounds as well.

So tell me, what the fuck should I do?

If you want to get better at hands, the best thing to do is to get better at art in general. Hands are one of the hardest things to draw because they require all the fundies (perspective, construction, anatomy). As for hand specific advice, get good at drawing the general shapes first. Do it for a hand in a neutral position, fingers all pointing forward and no extreme perspective, while paying attention to the proportion of the shapes. Once you got that figured out, you can start with more complex poses.

>>6867039
the point of doing gestures is to find the most important info of a pose without getting bogged down in the details. This is the volume, position and rhythm of the body parts. Since you're just starting out, it'll probably take you longer than 30 seconds. Set your timer to something like 2 minutes at first but make sure you stick to it.

Hello beg. This is the pain: pain of beg. Cannot believe how long this shit took me to make.

I am "okay" when drawing from reference and honestly with just that i could start making my art career. There are so many tools in 2030 that there is "always" a reference available. But i dont want to be just another drawer fraud. That isnt my style. I want to be able to draw with just a blank canvas and pen. The journey will be long and painful, i can already see it.

From today i will change the way how i study and practice drawing. And pick up figure books, starting with the most infamous one: fun with a pencil.

>>6867352

To be honest I can't imagine how anyone can take DAB seriously after this exercise.

I'll just do rotation studies of my wooden cube instead and use that to gain an "intuitive understanding" for now.

But first I'll regen my creative force by drawing other shit. Here's a woman I drew on the subway, she had sexy hair.

your only problem is having too high expectations of yourself, which leads to increased frustration and pressure.

You open source film maker and you feel overwhelmed, a reasonable expectation might be "I will try to create a blank scene" or "I will make one object move, that would be huge progress." You are not content with those small victories because your expectation is unrealistic. You are not pacing yourself properly. Instead of seeing what is next you are focusing on what is 10000 steps into the future. You come in with the expectation to create a cinematic masterpiece before even learning how to open a project.

No, my problem is that when I open source Filmmaker, not only am I overwhelmed, but I legitimately don't know how the fuck any of it works. The UI looks overwhelming, I can't figure out what the fuck I'm even doing, I can't figure out where anything is, I don't even know where to start. I'm legitimately a retard with the education of someone half my age. I don't even know basic trig or geometry and integrals. I want to do it, but I'm literally too retarded, overwhelmed and too lazy thanks to my fucking ADHD This is the same problem with literally everything that I've ever attempted to do.

What is even the first thing I should focus on when it comes to drawing? This is the only thing I can actually see myself doing outside of writing. Is it really too big of an expectation to do literally anything other than sitting my room, jerk off and go to sleep? Is that too big of an expectation to set for myself? Another day, another round of Burne Hogarth Studies.

I notice my proportions improving was not a fluke, I seem to be retaining my ability to more accurately (not perfectly of course yet) copy what I am seeing. That being said, still not great, definitely need to do more work with arms not feeling right still.

I can not by the life of me figure out how to do hands, they look awful still, and fingers are already challenging to do so the fact I can't draw hands properly is annoying!

I'll continue doing these, but am thinking of just following the Hide channel's Croquis method (and have been practicing a bit with those), but dunno where else to go now.

For the record, I do wanna draw anime/stylized type characters eventually, but I know having a good grasp of anatomy is ideal. I can see that learning how to draw much of it is like exercising a muscle, you just gotta do it and gradually things will sorta stick? Provided you are using it properly.

completely different skillset, so that's natural. out of these the fourth is easily the best, the flow on that bent leg is better than i've managed recently, and you've removed the back of the calf and recognised it's not necessary for the eye to flow through the leg. try to avoid boxing things in as on the left, limbs can usually be represented by 1-3 lines flowing out in unison rather than trapping the eye at the end of the limb. what resources are you using?

I did struggle with forming the torsos with subtle curves and such, which is what I meant. I'll try to work on it but I do hope I can eventually shape arms and the bends in torsos better just at the moment my curves always look either too angular or too wide apart.

It helped me see how they should be shaped more, though I think much of it was probably just me redoing a botched study, and when I redid it and fixed it...it's like I suddenly got proportions if that makes sense?

>> No.6867922

I haven't studied any anatomy books in the past so I don't have the knowledge to compare
But, I do find it very useful so far since its focused on the location and simplified shape of the muscles, proportions and how to find the location using other points in the body as reference
Its also pretty concise, not a lot of talking

I can now visualize in my mind the upper torso, obliques, neck, and arms, and feel I understand the volume and function a lot better, I imagine finishing the book would give be a strong foundation to then move onto more complex books or just give me the tools to better learn from gesture studies

Probably because Wellbutrin, like Adderall, tends to feel good just by virtue of increasing dopamine, perhaps you experienced anhedonia during the comedown and hence the suicidal ideation
But Wellbutrin is not idea to study at all, since its an acetylcholarase imhibitor, acetylcholine being an incredible important neurotransmitter for learning and memory formation, which is the same set of synapses which Nicotine acts on (Hence why it is prescribed for smoking cessation, and also the reason I use nicotine pouches while studying).

>If I where you, autistic-adhdanon, I would try to minimize the amount of distractions first before going to medications. At best it will allow you to forgo taking meds, which cost money and can have odd side-effects. At worst it will help your productivity even more when on meds because you can focus on art instead of phone or whatever.

This has been a point of contemplation for the last 10 years, and I still feel just on the fence on this idea as the first day. I don't know if ADHD is real, if I am simply not content with the card,s I've been given in life or if I am a completely normal individual asking for more than I should
But at the end of the day, there hasn't been a day I take Modafinil that I regret
The awareness of mind, the focus, the ability to maintain storylines through time as the day passes, the increase in memory and grit, the increase in visualization skills.

If you allow me to get cringy, it does feel like everytime I take Modafinil I ascend to a higher form, although from the outside perhaps it just looks like a retard needing to take pharma to do things most people can do with relative ease

Only thing I know, after 10 yearse on and off meds. I prefer the Me on the pharma. Things start to have meaning while on it

took me a week to copy it, and 3 weeks for the memory draw. This was like drawing from morning to evening though

I improved a lot, but the Bridgman information sits in your head and continues to inform your art for a year to 2 years afterwards. My figures look more birdgman-y now than they did when I finished copying it, even though I haven't copied Bridgman since then

thank you, it's just that I have an issue with posting studies because I don't know how to format them for a twitter post. Trying to figure out how to actually put together a formal schedule as opposed to just grinding until I become tired, rest, repeat.
currently studying Loomis’ books after having gone through Bridgman once, attending life drawing classes, fundamentals of shapes in perspective, painting oil and acrylics, and doing design oriented commissions and volunteer work. I also just give myself time to go completely loose and draw whatever I want, which usually ends up becoming a study of something as an idea starts forming from that.
also need to start finding ways to formally study design and art history.

Assuming I have all the time in the world right now, which might not be the case in 2 months, and I’ve been able to maintain this level of activity for months without burning out, what would be a good way to actually set all of this to a schedule?
For clarification, my nearest goal at the moment might quite simply be to be qualified enough for work in design and illustration, my further goal being inclusive of animation, and my ultimate goal being able to support myself while creating anything I want inside and outside of a team

"The writer's barely disguised fetish" is a meme for good reason. What you like in terms of anything will be reflected in your art. Sure you can intentionally steer away from it if you want, but it's invariably going to seep back in when you're less conscientious about keeping it out.

Unless you're intentionally working to create a range of character designs for a piece or just to work on your breadth of design, embrace it. Maybe once you do it enough you'll get bored of it anyway.

Hello, beg, looking for all kinds of advice. There are many things wrong with this drawing; the first thing that strikes me is the incorrect perspective of various details. Her cape looks weird, i just can't draw it properly at this moment. Also, the cleanliness of the lineart is so-so, especially on small details. The one advice that i read here is to use opacity brush instead of size brush (ink) but when i started to paint it was looking bad, the edges of colour were seen through the lineart. I want to do another 1-2 linearts before painting it. Anyway, any critque would be nice.

Looks pretty ok overall. I would call your attention to some proportions. Especially the hands and feet. Thy are all too small in comparison ti the rest of the body. A good rule of thumb is to make the hand about the size ton be able to cover half the face from the chin to the eyebrows as that is how you cover your face in real life. Then the feet should be slightly larger than the hands but there is some wiggle room there depending on person, gender and of course the shoes they are wearing.

Okay then maybe give it a more unique face or something. When you're designing characters it really helps if the reader can instantly get an idea of that character just by looking at them and if that's not possible, then maybe lean on the green girl being more angular/sharper than the soft round bunny girl. Got into drawing again. I intend to stick by it this time around and just do it daily, even if i don't intend to put a lot of time in or do any serious progress.

Construction is just a visualization tool, expect you put it on paper instead of trying to juggle it in your mind. And when you've drawn figures a million times, like your favorite artists, you should have developed a very good sense of how things are supposed to look with out having get out old trusty construction.

How can I go from left to something more like the center or right?

Any good/simple videos that break down rendering and layers?

WTF is wrong with my inking?
Look at the shit I tried to do.
I try to make lines with lots of finesse but they always come out squiggly and stiff
Is it something with my tablet, my software or the technique I use?

>> No.6870174

Unless I'm missing something, this is just an issue you have to work around with digital inking. I imagine most art programs have some sort of line stabilizer. You need to either use that and learn to work with that (it'll draw lines slower to smooth out the wobbles) OR you need to learn to draw quick, deliberate lines. One benefit of doing this digitally is layers and being able to erase. So you can make a new layer, draw in your line and then erase to make it match the rest of the piece.
It's not you. Digital inking picks up every wobble and shake in your hand and if you draw slowly this happens. All of us had this issue at one point.

If that's what your art looks like on the left, it's cartoon/anime rendered with cel shading and black outlines. If you wanted something like the middle, you'd need to approach it more like a painter. There's not too much of a difference, but the process might take some time to adjust to.
This artist has a whole channel of speedpaint videos on anime and game characters. It's pretty handy to just watch how they do it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbHsYscK7PU

been trying to study heads and i think i need to get better at positioning boxes to make things easier. should i just go through drawabox? i understand the basics of perspective, but actually drawing shapes correctly is different.

I just do the classic trick of making lighter colors warmer and darker colors colder, there's not that much to it.
I also mess around with blending modes, but that's exactly what i'm looking to avoid from now on.
