Retarded nodraw shit. You have a limited amount of time on this earth to get good at a skill before you kick it, you will not get good at all or even most, so this all amounts to pointless, unfalsifiable dick-waving. This is before even accounting for the creativity factor, art isn't just technique. Sargent could not have done animation.

Skill wise, they have similar fundamentals so you just need a lot of practice to get good.
Fund wise, Sculpting is hardest because the material can be extremely expensive. Boomers nowadays refer to sculp Marble into a fengshui balls and sell it to chinks than hire a skilled sculptors to turn them into masterpieces

>3DCG
lol. lmao.

>sculpting
feels easier. though i've only done a bit of 3d sculpting. but i feel like it's a more natural medium for humans to wrap their heads around.

>digital painting
easier than trad painting because less restricted. digital is less punishing than traditional in general

>painting
less punishing than drawing. but still a very high skill ceiling.

>drawing
harder than painting since it's more restrictive. more abstract.

>animation
eh i really don't think it's THAT much harder than drawing, as i think being good at one will automatically make you good at the other.
but you do require more fundamental skill for it i guess.

Traditional animators draw the most without turd polishing, so gain the most drawing skill.

the zenith of animation is literally impossible because you get into the realm of animated hyperrealism from imagination and is not constrained to a single tool

>> No.6863460

Any sort of linear sliding scale of quality/goodness of art is retarded and so is anyone taking such a scale seriously.

>> No.6863465

>and is not constrained to a single tool
yesssss BUT
stop motion is a lower form of animation
The animation tier list goes like this
>Keyframe 2d animator
>Animatic artist (animated storyboard artists, heavily underrated)
>Inbetweener 2d animator
>Keyframe 3d animator
>Pixel art sprite animators
>Stop motion animator
>Motion graphics animator
>Experimental shit/everyone else

>stop motion is a lower form of animation
Half-agreed. Stop motion has people ignore many of the obvious flaws in the animation because of it's visual charm - but you still have to design and sculpt good characters, while ensuring those character's armatures work.

And if we talk about more polished high level stop-motion, like what laika does, then I'd argue it's equal to a keyframe 2D animator on your list.
Don't forget that there is no in-betweener for a stop-motion animator, and if there's a mistake, they can't just ctrl-z or fix that particular frame. A mistake can be an entire scene reanimated (this on top of shit like needing to be aware of light changes, not bumping your background models etc.)

So stop motion is easy to enter, very difficult to master.

Generally yeah, that's my opinion too.
My only gripe is for animation "takes ALL of the time and impossible to master in a lifetime" because animation is the least "solo" of all of these, it requires group effort by it's very nature so it's kind of meh to compare it to these other ones on those terms.
Especially considering unlike some of these styleized animation is some of the ebst there is and you actively don't need to be perfect in some of these fundamentals unlike sculpting or painting

Craft refers to anything that requires craftsmanship, glass, clay, fiber, wood, sewing, etc. Crafts require altogether different skills from drawing and are their own fields almost entirely.

>>6863409
Interesting thought, lemme engage a bit here
>Photography
Requires similar fundies to art, ie composition, color, lighting, etc. Might be a bit expensive if you want high quality and access to decent editing software
>Film
Also fucking expensive, requires a team of people to pull off or you will have to wear many hats
>Cartoons
Easy mode, genuinely fun. Lots of ways to exaggerate characters for emphasis. Not going to be taken very seriously as an art form though.
>printmaking
Can start with just simple stamps carved from rubber and erasers or making tshirts, variable starting cost. Blocky. Easy to play with color and easily iterable for selling.

Sculpture is Def time consuming but it can't be that hard. Look at Greece, they had great sculptures but their drawings are crap

>> No.6864813

>>6863296
Each of those categories has like 20 different traditions. The easiest sculpting is easier than the hardest animations and the easiest animation is easier than the hardest sculpting. The whole list is just arbitrary unless you put in the effort to create and exhaustive list of mediums and styles, but that would require actual research

Leonardo Da Vinci said:
>“Sculpture, a very noble art, is one that does not in the execution require the same supreme ingenuity as the art of painting, since in two most important and difficult particulars, in foreshortening and in light and shade… the painter has to invent a process, sculpture is helped by nature.”

I like this chart personally. Advanced level is the highest level you can get being self taught, you need to actually learn and study art and fundies to get to expert and above.
