The guy is pretty clearly tracing over photograph references, albeit very well. But you can see all of the camera perspective in the composition. The rendering is not very in-depth. The poses/anatomy are not difficult.

The secret is photo-referencing AND being mindful of colors to give it a complete ambient.

For example, I sketched this in 30~60 minutes without using any references, so it's all wonky, but I got the atmosphere down by having a clear picture in my mind of what sort of illumination I would like for the gym.

If I were a competent draftsman and had a reference for all these machines I need for the drawing, it could probably get done in 3h.
