Rendering guides?

So I downloaded some guy's brush pack, but I don't really understand what all of the brushes are actually supposed to be used for. So far on my art journey, I've just been drawing with 1 brush, and I haven't really ever tried rendering because I'm not sure how it's supposed to work. In fact, I haven't really used any of the tools besides layers and ctrl-z. Does anyone have any guides to actually rendering in flat colors in a way that looks good?

Rendering = Beg Trap

If you didn't became GOOD yet at drawing whatever, and having fun doing it, then there's no point in getting all worked up about rendering.
First drawing, stay there, unpack your things, get comfortable you're gonna live there for a while. Then move to lineart, the same, stay there, be a lineart artist. And then go to rendering.
You need to go through those three stages and make it count. Otherwise you won't be good at nothing of the three.

Solid advice. I fell for the rendering trap early on in my art journey and regret it. I'm playing catch up now but when I think about how far I'd have come if I just focused on line... arrgh.

I agree that you should at least have a grasp on drawing fundamentals before painting, but you can be good at painting while being a weak draftsman. Not to say they're unrelated or anything

It's true, being able to refine blobs of light into nice shapes gets you pretty far, but you'll feel incompetent when you watch line artists work magic...

Painting is far more magical than line work imo; I'm pretty sure that's the popular opinion as well. Drawing requires more skill and practice though, without a doubt

I've noticed, which is prob why so many fall in that trap. more real = more good type of mindset.

I can see that angle, bringing something to life, be it realistic or stylized, the way color works like magic sometimes...
I was thinking more about of the act of drawing line, like watching kim jung gi draw.
