Oh god I had a similar experience with noobs as well. I didn't want to really hang out with people I couldn't learn anything from, but I was desperate for art friends and boy what a mistake that was.
People really aren't aware how bitter art noobs can get, and some of the more unhinged ones are constantly triggered by every little thing you do. Render well? They get pissy that they can't properly utilize the intel you gave them. Give a demonstration too quickly and easily? You're somehow making fun of them or telling them to do something impossible "for normal people."
It's so tiring being around losers, and making friends with other talented people is a complete shift. We can jam and collab with vaguely similar skill levels and we genuinely love the work we make. It's infinitely better being friends with people comparable to your own skill level, like, I'm rambling but it's so fuckin nice.

I hope to make more art friends like that, but most of the ones I've met were mainstream professionals at that point and they had little time for some random guy like me. I still genuinely feel excited when I'm at a convention and one of these big name professionals is stunned for a second when I bring up their technique or point out what I think they did to create something and I can see their invisible wall they put up around themselves begin to dissipate and we talk back and forth for way too long.
Really feels almost saccharine when they try to give you free stuff after that because they realize they found another artist, but you pay em anyway because you know their grind better than anyone.

I live for stories, I like telling and hearing real stories from life, I have lots of stories to share

My art style is very technical and many think it's bland but I think thag the themes and ideas are interesting and creative.
Same goes for my taste in art, I value substance over style

I've never drawn anything from life, I've tried it when asked to but I find it painfully boring so I've never completed such drawing.

I can't make friends anymore, I think it's a me problem. I used to have a lot of friends but eventually some just went offline because they didn't draw anymore or we just drifted apart. Most of the ones who stayed didn't improve all that much either so it's weird. Hard to put in the effort to reestablishing myself with other people.

I would like to be friends with artists who are better but just because they're better doesn't mean they're cool people generally. Most cool artists are doing their own thing. Sucks to not have a communtiy of friends nowadays it's very lonely. I think neobeg is the only active place.

I have been invited to smaller servers and private fren servers but they're usually pre established and have known eachother for years so it's hard to really even try to be friends with them. Too many other schizos I've come across over the years that are in all the other /ic/ servers too but public servers are so bad.

Yeah we do. I only give criticism on art when people ask for it, and only use 4chin to get criticism/resources in order to help me improve. Everything else regarding those obsessions with politics and invisible "enemies" are stuff that I have to tolerate and dodge in order to get better. Since this is the only place where I can get solid criticism and pointers towards better art, it's worth it. Just ignore the threads that devolve into that kind of talk. The latest OC drawthreads have been a breath of fresh air in that sense, since people actually want to draw for eachother and talk about drawing.

I was a socially awkward introvert because I drew all the time in my room, and so I didn't have good social skills, but I still have a few friends from time to time, like one guy who just didn't care about drawing. I can tell when someone is jealous and secretly doesn't like me, so obviously making friends with them is difficult. This girl used to be friendly toward me in my class before she saw my drawings. She was the best at drawing in the class until I joined, and afterward she would stare at her drawing and ignore me. Her behavior toward me was night and day. That was probably the most extreme example. It doesn't happen all the time, but it happens mostly in classroom settings and with people who are at least somewhat serious about getting good. They're basically IRL crabs, but without the mask of anonymity they don't talk shit. Outside of classroom settings it seems better, but because of these past experiences, I still can't shake the feeling that people still secretly don't like me if they find out I'm better than them.

I've still been talking with a group of people I met in clash of clans for close to 9 years now. 2 of those I've met IRL when they visited Japan. And met another 2 off 4chan. And there's also a bunch of other online groups I regularly partake in and enjoy the long conversations. We'd meet up too if money and distance wasn't a factor.

It can become a friendship if you actually make it one and stop being a pussy and actually love meeting and talking with people.

Shenever I invite someone from the internet I end up kicking them out because they contribute nothing and clearly just want touse it to fulfill their need for socialization that they seemingly wouldn't otherwise get because people who use discord or hang out on 4chan are mostly lonely and socially not well adjusted.

the one time I tried to make an art friend from this site, he spilled a bunch of bullshit about "wah wah I'm friends with an art group but there's someone in there that doesn't like me so I can't be there." I listened to him talk about this for hours between other things and tried to offer constructive advice on how to handle it and be sympathetic. I thought we were getting along, but after that night he proceeded to stay invisible for the week, then removed me as if it was my fault for not messaging someone that visibly was not online. Opening up and showing my art in a non-anonymous setting is rare for me so it just makes me bitter that people behave like that.

To me,past art "friends" is an insignificant blip in time only exacerbated in my head longer than the actual time spent with the person. I have 2 brothers, but we fell out of talking to each other by my teen years. If I calculate the actual time I remember spending with my brother it would be, let's say, age 5 where memories would be the strongest. If I "fell off" speaking to my brother by age 14 that would be roughly only 10 years of quality time I spent with someone out of the 25+ years I've been alive, but at least those interactions were near daily.

If I befriend a flaming retard off /ic/ and we talk for a week before growing distant, or the relationship lasts for a few months and then some bs happens that quality time is likely even less. Especially if I'm the one always reaching out first and never the other way around. No communication can go on for days maybe even up to a week. Can I call someone a friend if I calculate the amount of time spent interacting with them very insignificant compared to the amount of time I bring them up in my head a year, 2, 3 later?
