Yes, it's actually a really convenient time saver and can produce a very similar effect to a line drawing without having to make lineart.

I don't do anything special. The studying I do these days mostly consists of loli-fying figures because I'd rather not screw around with the real thing, but I may try Instagram or something soon. That piece took around 8 hours. I usually use two layers for linework: one for the body, one for clothes; additional layers may be used for overlapping elements (just so things don't get too messy) I felt like adding at the spur of the moment, like the backpack. I've been consistently doing full body poses in around 1-2 hours lately, so the bulk of the time was spent on the face, clothes and other accessories over several passes (I'm indecisive), which consists of a lot of redrawing and touchups on the original layer. I never do a final pass for clean 'line art' if that helps.

going to check out bammes and mattesi, and whetever overlap there is with vilppu is a plus in my opinion

i personally create multiple iterations (all on separate layers that get their opacity reduced by half when i begin a new iteration) of my sketch until the final sketch is almost as clean as my linework, and then i create a dedicated linework layer - essentially throwing away all the previous layers.
if i understand correctly you just draw and refine the same sketch/drawing/linework until you are satisfied? in that case your approach to sketching/construction is indistinguishable from how you draw a line that is supposed to be final.

i dont know how to achieve this - for me making confident, clean, precise lines is so difficult that i segregate that process so my sketching can be done without wanting to throw up. i just cant make lines that are
1. precise
2. confident
without using a thick smudging brush. but thick messy linework does not work well with my style and i personally adore this kind of fine pen linework that for example you have (among many jap artists i look up to)

is this merely a question of mileage or did you consciously develop your drawing sketching linework? how do you keep yourself from drifting towards larger brush sizes - as thin lines are less forgiving of tiny mistakes?

Clean line work is easier the more developed your underlying structure is. Chances are when placing a line, you try to make it clean and simultaneously deciding where *exactly* with which *exact* curvature to place the line. Your construction should have solved the latter with no room for ambiguity. Drill more anatomy like >>6733254 said. Yes, and, unfortunately, talent - not that I'm even that good - its just the truth. There are no tricks for something as basic and fundamental as pen handling. Maybe line smoothing/stabilization at zero plays a part, but I otherwise avoid stippling marks like you did on the right. The more continuous your lines, the better.

dont feel down, i am on the same fucking path as you
making a more "organic" brush made line work a bit easier, obscured my weaknesses and made my pictures a bit better overall - but i had to face the same wall you are hitting. sketchy, rough, blurring brushes for linework lower the bar and make it easier to create acceptable drawings, but in the end it is raising the bar that leads to better lines

that is a nice term, i know exactly what you mean
what other artists create in one intuitive fluid motion, we have to carefully design / imitate with conscious effort. so far i have found that
"ghosting" a line before placing it down is helpful (going through the motion without the pen touching the tablet) - it forces one to actually think about the line and decide how its going to look BEFORE placing it down
breaking curves into multiple (almost) straight lines helps one be more "economic" with lines. everything becomes either a very precise and well defined curve - or - if it is close enough to a straight line it gets simplified down to just that, a straight line
and lastly, starting and ending a line deliberately, with a completely resting pen.

First when i just started trying out different methods of gesture drawing, i didnt get anything since i was a super beg at that time. Well I got sidetracked from my exercise and started drawing an amputated bukkaked loli. I found starting with a large canvas (3600x4400 in this case), drawing with a small ish brush (5px with taper in this case) and shrinking the canvas afterwards gets nice small lines with minimal headache. Let's see what I missed this time...

Wait a minute... This is mostly stuff that draw a box teaches you. I'd know because I spent a good chunk of my college years doing those exercises. (Take a wild guess as to why I never finished them all).The main difference here (as far as I remember) is the deliberate line ending, and draw a box instead teaches to draw beyond the intended end point.

While I generally prefer small to no breast even on adults, it actually works when it's not just a baby face on an otherwise adult body or a short stack. IRL I've seen girls young as 13 with DD's, so it's certainly possible. For the uninitiated DD is about average for an adult.

I don't want to draw semi-realistic kodocon (lolisho and toddlercon) because it feels like all of the remotely accurate stuff is referenced off of real kids either directly or indirectly. If you use pose dolls or other peoples' art, these were probably directly referenced off of real children. It sucks, though, because I gained a fetish for this stuff recently and came to this realization a bit too late. This is even worse than referencing real animals because at least real animals aren't identifiable and don't play the same societal role as humans.

Is it social stigma? In that case, the human body is a work of art. I have a neighbor sporting a classical statue of a topless little girl in his front yard. My local pediatric center has a naked baby statue in the waiting room and nobody bats an eye.
Is it the thought of somehow violating children indirectly? We got several people here do lolification studies: Translating adult references to have child-like proportions.
Unfortunately there's few communities that cover this topic without antis going ape shit (Even though they're often fine with shota, but that's for another discussion) or pedophiles circle jerking. Then again, I'm a pedo who turned to drawing kodocon as a substitute for the real deal, so what do I know?

Firstly, I'm not touting Mattesi as a panacea for any artistic woes - even the gesture/dynamicism which it purports to teach. To even say FORCE did anything for me is probably just sentimentalism speaking, as my breaking out of /beg/ was the culmination of many different factors, the most memorable one notwithstanding. I don't recall applying any specific principles or techniques from Mattesi at that time (and I certainly don't now), as the most revelatory part of it all were the drawings - specifically the more voluminous figures in 3D space. I was trying to learn gesture then just like you had, and copying those was what clicked for me. I didn't realize this before, but it is still my firm belief that 'stick gestures' (which I'd attempted before Mattesi) are an utter waste of time, and that you can't believably or practically portray weight without incorporating space - which you should ideally learn before gesture.

Wyell... I don't, but I get your woes regarding relaxed figures. The small world of subtlety isn't one many teachers directly touch upon, but I assure you that exaggeration is recommended at first for good reason, as I explained above. Now, I can't tell you how exactly I draw more subdued figures (isn't intuition just a wonderful thing?), but I don't feel or think differently when doing so, so the gestural fundamentals must be the same. Looking over my past works and studies, it seems to be a 'better to ask for forgiveness' thing where I'd gradually dial back poses after having well explored their more extreme ranges.

But yeah, the way gesture is often taught and the incorrect order which it is introduced into the learning pipeline has probably sabotaged a lot of people. So don't feel too bad about it.
