If you are a /beg/inner or /int/ermediate in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the drawthread with fundamental exercises.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS wide using one of the following methods:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in MSPaint

READ THE STICKY:
Completed: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit
New collaborative sticky (anyone can edit): https://hackmd.io/UMnZVhNITW-T2wZpHw6d0Q
Old: http://www.squidoo.com/how-to-draw-learn

RECOMMENDED BOOKS FOR BEGINNERS:
Dont read the stickies they are outdated, dont buy all proko courses, buy vilppu the god of teaching art courses!

TRY TO BE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK.
When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help. When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

Obviously imma hit you with some subjective ass dogshit opinions but here's where you could absolutely easily improve. 1 I think you could use more than one color and to great effect(makes your drawings higher contrast and draws the viewers attention to area of focus). 2 draw some anime ass eyes or some human eyes just don't pussy shit around with black blobs. I could even see black blob with a highlight pocking out but you seem like you're actually giving up on the eyes. Other than that your line art is really good and you got a strong sense of anatomy good work bub

when you do crosshatching, try not to do perpendicular lines like that, but curve them to match the form of what you're drawing. David Finch mentioned that in one of his streams and it helped me a lot. Your line work looks pretty good, did you do this in MS Paint? You should try some good software like CSP to make rendering easier

pretty much, learning to draw anything involves simplifying the shapes of it, and then learning to draw those shapes a shitload of times over until you get them where you want them

looks decent, but I'm not sure her pose works. her pelvis is facing the viewer, her torso is angled slightly off, and her head is from a side perspective. I'd imagine anyone would have a difficult time moving their hip like her right leg is. I think the key problem is her abdomen is turned at an unnatural angle and the hips don't follow it. I love how you drew the skirt though

At what point do you think criticizing your drawings is a detriment. After I finish stuff I have this brief period where I get frustraited and demotivated about it not being better, and I have a period where I almost want to give up. It kind of sucks the fun and relaxation out. The better I get the worse it gets too. At the same time I'm kind of afraid of not feeling upset because I think self-criticism helps with getting better.

Looking at this time lapse, it seems that you only really use highly saturated colors ( picking from the top part of the color palette ) only AFTER you've defined everything with a much more desaturated colour as close to grey-black as possible. Is that why a lot of beginner art look ugly is because they use saturated colours from the start? ( besides the obvious lack of knowledge of perspective, form etc )

i always draw character with white background and kinda know how shadow works a little bit

however my coloring skill with background is shit. i mostly like to use yellow/same skin color and when it come to draw full CG my art will look like it just paste character on background but they're not belong to the scene. if i'm not mistaken every part of color need to be planned before rendering? example at night the skin character should be blue/darkish , evening skin color should be brown-ish/yellow .
how can i move from white background character to full cg/coloring background that make character blend with it?
do artists that draw these they pick new skin color every time? videos tutorial or etc would appreciated
pic related is cutesexyrobutts

any tips so i can move from perma/beg/ to mid/beg/.

you can't just add in a background at the end and expect it to look right generally, you need to keep in mind the lighting of the scene from the beginning
best way I can think of to do that is to just look up references so you can get an idea of it before you start painting

in that case it's pretty obvious innit?
the reflective blue lighting comes on too strong and sharp, there's some reflective light on the reference but it's so subtle you can barely see it (and it's not a cold blue). The blending technique is too sharp, the reference doesn't use it. The lines are bolder, rougher and messy. The ANATOMY is too sharp and defined, too many muscles, tendons and bones are outlined. The reference uses values. You made the sweat droplets break the outline too often. The dark gray background affects the overall values on the body too if you can believe it.

I needed to test this. I usually don't use "gesture" lines to copy a pose ( I use them to "invent" new poses if necessary). Anyway I noticed that the way you did the gesture lines seemed counter-intuitive to me. I would choose to draw the main line of direction in the opposite way, curved to the left instead of the right. Like in the photo the back is curved to the left.
So I tested it. And I think, maybe I'm right, and that helps a lot to get the pose. I don't know, take a look maybe it can help.

My great breakthrough was possible thanks to the digital medium. It allows you to multiply your grinding methods in quantity and quality. You're very limited in so many levels on traditional. You're limited by the size of the paper you use (limiting your art to the size of paper you have available REALLY create bad habits, like seriously). The amount of resources you have, materials to use and learn color, etc, etc. The physical space to archive your work, all of that creates limits and boundaries around your artistic development. In a year of digital drawing/painting you could grind atleast 4 times more the amount you can do with traditional means.

Of course this requires discipline and an efficient work routine. A tablet and a piece of artistic software are like any other art tool, they can be as good as you make them be. Or they can be totally useless.

Imagine having infinite paper, an infinite resizable canvas, infinite brushes, markers, pencils, pens of any kind, a tool to mirror instantly your work just pressing one button, infinite layers, infinite space to save and archive your work. These tools are a dream come true. Imagine a guy like Frazzetta with these tools, he could have been able to do at least 4 times more work during his lifetime. Same with Kim Jung Gi, he was just starting to test digital tablets.

His videos are real time walk throughs where he uses loomis and reilly rhythms to draw portraits. he'll explain the entire process step by step, what he measuring, relative positions of say ear to the eye or random anatomy (zygomatic arch, etc) that he's using to place his construciton lines, etc. its all based on loomis though. if you get better or want to learn to render the constructed face, you can follow his videos as he does the rendering to completed portraits too. but if you dont understand loomis or how to go from 'heres an oval, heres the face' type examples in loomis book, his videos will guide you through them.

you need to research how to render fur, get a bit better at using full value range and it will be good
>>6721170
i would copy it anyway. to learn to draw one needs mileage, its literally free practice

simple, effective, appealing, unique. I kneel

using undo is the biggest beg trap. also you should take a DVD or something perfectly round and trace it on the tablet. if the result wont produce perfect circle in your app then you have to tinker with the settings until the curves you do in real life translate 1:1 to curves on your screen

cute fag
>>6720733
unless you will somehow never touch the edges then it would be useless? real practice is to print perfect circles or ellipses and then copy or trace them
>>6720636

>>6720633
there are many styles in drawing and most of them dont require high precision or super smooth curves so yes, you can learn how to draw even with ugly scribbled letters

dress is a litle beggy, but the weakest part is easily her leg and feet. also is the tree supposed to have a face or is it happy accident?

too mudy and colors too sameish. as far as reflections go, the perspective books have chapters about it but frankly reflected light is so counter intuitive you can just wing it and nobody will be able to point mistakes

right looks too unnaturally pale, some of her skin tones don't really match imo. I get that she's supposed to be a hikikomori, but it just doesn't look right. left coloring looks much better.
