So far I've seen it be implemented into Unity, PS, CSP, Blender, other programs, now it has controlnet, comfyAI, everything and yet so far the only mainstream uses I've seen for it are... a whole bunch of patreon and pixiv pornpost 1girl, a lot of porn games, Firmament(fine game), the intro to marvel's new show(acceptable), corridor crew's RPS video(really good), and one videogame called Artist Life Simulator which, ironically, used AI Art to create images based on your current situation/objective/whatever(extremely good and novel use).

I don't even hate AI but it looks like it SHOULD be obviously useful, but then where is it?

This is a weird claim to be making. No chat bot can kill search engines because search engines have immense amounts of catalogued data that aren't all obtainable today.
Chat bots are best used in conjunction with search engines anyways. They're only going to change how users use search engines in the future. I.E. kill outdated search engine algorithms.
>It didn't, it won't, and it never will
Yeah, I if you're already setting immense expectations for an emerging technology, then it's always going to seem subpar and useless.
Google had to release Bard in a haphazard state just to signal that they had a competitive technology. You can be pessimistic about tech's future growth, but you can't just shrug off an industry paradigm shift.

>We get cases like the Lawyer who asked ChatGPT for aid and it gave him sources that don't exist. He is currently in a case that can make him lose his license\
Yeah, because he's a retard that doesn't understand technology or how LLMs actually work. They're best just used to get an initial high-level overview on a topic, not explain all the details with accuracy.
If you prompt engineer an LLM in the wrong direction, it's just going to hallucinate and spit out garbage. It's sad that ChatGPT combined with live search engine data is still leagues better than Google's shitty search algorithm even with this problem.

>but I haven't seen anything new or exciting since
I don't think that's an uncommon sentiment for people working with AI shit as a profession since you kind of just get jaded about everything else unless it's really close to your own research; but even for a hobbyist, there's still a myriad of things you can mess around with regarding local LLM models if you know how to program.

>So like a shitty search engine?
No, it's better than current search engine algorithms; which is a pretty low bar anyways. You always have to append site:x to your search engine prompts if you want to find anything useful.
>Everything requiring any understanding of a topic that I've seen fed into an AI always spit out pseudoscientific horseshit
Yes, LLMs have a hallucination problem. If your prompts are too broad, and it lacks info in the dataset; it'll just fill in the gaps with info that might sound correct. You can also tell the bot to correct itself, but this doesn't always work for tasks with complexity.
Generally, it's still pretty good at generating simple boilerplate code/text and topic overviews that don't need details. If you're not experienced with RegExp, it can output some basic text parsing commands for you, and it also has the capability of managing raw text and organizing it in a certain way; you just have to keep your individual prompts simple and do things iteratively if you want scaled complexity.

If you're the kind of person that tries jump into a new topic without any prior knowledge, it's good for generating a high-level overview of things that you can then research some more yourself with a search engine. Consequently, it's the best for programmers since they tend to have to learn new languages and concepts extremely frequently; but also have the base knowledge and problem solving skills needed to quickly recognize if the bot is just throwing out random bullshit; and pivot to researching with a search engine when the bot quickly expends its usefulness.
It's not going to be as good for the art field, which contains a lot more visual learning resources than text resources.

Likewise, if you know how to look for the relevant information repositories in search engines; an AI chatbot isn't going to be that useful unless you really want to use it. It's sometimes nice to just look at bot responses while resting your mind though.

They recognize some images as AI generated, then assume that they are 100% at spotting it.
That certainly won't be the case 5 years from now, and might not be the case even now. Context matters a lot. If you were shown a good AI image where you had no reason to expect it to be AI, you would likely have a lot harder of a time detecting it.

So far the AI art (about 80% is AI) in my game has gone unmentioned, I've even gotten compliments on it. :)

>You are not supposed to praise laziness.
I'm not praising laziness. I think AI tools will just balance out the proportion of work needed for a much larger creation. For example, in videogames you would still need to produce the music and the programming; among all the immense amount of other components you need to make a competent product.
Assuming the time effort for these 3 components were equal, AI tools will simply lower the usual 33% of the effort needed to make the visual art aspect of a typical videogame. Solo game developers would be able to focus even more on the music and the programming aspects and scale their games much higher than they could have done before.

>This is the real answer to OP's question

AI art right now isn't useful and it never will unless we come up with AGI because training anything on data can only go so far.
You need something that learn like a human being and not a computer, you need sentience or something close to it.
Machine Learning and Deep Learning aren't a replacement for the human's mind, just a tool since they can't think for themselves nor truly learning anything like a human.
AI art can't grasp complex concepts or remember anything for long so forget about it.

This is a shill talking point. Computer algorithms cannot take "inspiration". AI "learning" is nothing but a buzzword when in reality all they're doing is putting data into a kind of database which they then query with prompts and computer algorithms do the rest. The same prompt with the same seed will always result in the same image.

As someone who studied art and writing for many years, and even before that loved reading and creating as a child, I can't say I see AI art,or AI writing, in a negative light. I've had books published, I used my own art as a basis for the covers. While I doubt anyone actually thought that was AI, mistaking human art for AI is not a win (retards exist, some art styles are nebulous)

I'm a /beg/ who started this year and in my opinion this is fucking amazing. Don't care whether it's AI or not. I think it's safe to say AI can be good at times. We should look at ways to peacefully co exist instead since both are creative expressions of the human mind. I don't get the hate. Again, just my newbie opinion on this discussion.

It's useless becuase it's not AI.
Its code is shit, its art is shit and limited, absolutely not use in game dev or artistic pursuit.
I guess you could use it for color palettes but that's it.

Its not AI, you are seeing an amazing painting by John Berkey.

Nah, I've put the dall-e color-bar on other things
And also presented other human-made work in the context of AI and gotten >hurrdurr aislop

Not to mention how my AI art has passed in beginner/draw/redraw threads.

God it literally gives me like a physical thrill to pass AI Art as handmade, in this environment especially but also on twitter/AS/elsewhere.

There are tons of tourists and ironic shitposters that you can't be sure of any of your supposed passing here. The fact it gives you a thrill is a bit weird, how do you know they were sincere, on /ic/ of all places? twitter and AS are just as full of retards.
