how do we fix the incestuous anime art style issue? Every single anime style you see these days is just a stylisation of a stylisation of a stylisation of a stylisation of a real girl and the only references these artists look at is other anime artists meaning it will get even worse in the future

This is what Life Drawing is for. It brings you back to the source.

Why do shounen manga from 20 years ago look way more soulful and appealing than most shits that gets hyped by NPCs now? FMA, Eyeshield 21, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Shaman King are way more interesting in terms of content, character design and art direction than either Jujutsu Kaisen or Demon Slayer

Why would I want to draw from life? Life sucks.

Just fucking draw who cares you have the power to draw sexy 80s anime chicks and the world would be a better place if you did

I don't know about the others, but FMA's mangaka studied oil painting for 7 years (part-time I believe), so that might have something to do with it. She also mentioned that she kept borrowing books at the library and interviewing people for research.

And yet Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayed Your Mom are still selling gangbusters. The younger audience now will say the exact same thing 20 years later about the anime they watched in 2020s.

I would say the first thing to do is to not just mindless copy an artist. That is, if you find an artist from the 80s or 90s you like, figure out what is you like about them. Ask questions. What was popular back then, what trends or visual motifs did people employ in their work? How were compositions, stories, character designs different 20-30 years ago compared to today? Read interviews from the artists you like and the artists who inspired them. It also doesn't hurt to flip through some artbooks now and then. And like some anons mentioned, going back to life drawing and utilizing that new knowledge with your current style will only make you a better artist.

Korean power fantasy webtoons and Isekais are as popular and praised by NPC zoomies too, doesn't mean they suddenly aren't pretentious self-insert shit anymore. Popularity doesn't equal quality, otherwise we should start considering MCU movies the best possible entertainment ever conceived

its because they all trace now. every last one of them is a 3d tracing piece of shit. there are no manga that arent made with 99% computer cut and paste tim buckley tier art. even garbage looking shit like chainsaw man is made entirely with traced models. most of murata's newer shit is traced or 3d shit. he might do the talking head bits, but he traces poses all the time. the backgrounds are all entirely 3d photobashed garbage. avg rom com slice of life whatever is completely traced shit with cut and paste buildings, headphones, pencils, glasses, etc. Oh Great! is the most egregious though. people wank that garbage and hes been using 3d tracing since the 90s.

I've been enjoying the power fantasy anime a lot more than anything I've watched back then, to be honest. It's eventually going to all come to an end, so might as well indulge and enjoy while it lasts because who knows what's after this era.

Name 3 character designs in JJK that don't wear the same simplistic ugly as shit uniform with nothing else that makes them stands out. At least Demon Slayer has varied and more complex outfits.
