The good thing about DA is (I believe) its huge userbase with its diverse taste on basically anything. I guess one could find a good following even on a very niche fetish or whatever. Bad thing is that its a very cringy place for me which is why I'm not that familiar with it nor I care that much about it.

Yup. People who comm art usually want to comm art that hits their kinks and they browse art of that scene in sites that have lotsa artists and are easy to navigate to find either latest art with sought tags or highest rank art of the tag. And yeah communities are all about the users, some are cringier, some are less. But active communities also boost the comm demand because people have their OCs and they want to show off art featuring their OCs.

weirdly i got most of my comms from twitter, even though my pixiv grew on its own faster than twitter where i got reposted by 2 very big artists
i had 2 offers on pixiv, but they all were mega scammy
