What does /ic/ consider "making it" gmi? Is gonna make it drawing your waifu or making money from your art. Why do so many artists fail in this aspect? Thoughts Opinions?

>> No.6672304

making it is having fun while drawing

>> No.6672317

Making it is achieving your personal goals in art, which are specific to the person.

For me, "making it" isn't really money related because I have more of a romantic and gay purpose to my art hobby. My GMI is
>having fun
>making things for people
>making things to put around my house
>creating storybooks for my kids
>having an amount of creative control in absolutely everything in my life
>just get absolutely lost in the sauce

If you enjoy drawing making it means being able to make a living out of your art, because that means you're not a wagecuck with way less time and energy for drawing.

Get to a place where I get to decently live off my art without putting 14hrs of work a day. Not that I dislike for extended periods of time but it's unhealthy.
>Why do so many artists fail in this aspect?
They do not treat their art like a proper business and do not invest enough resources in marketing themselves. Some people keep repeating a formula that does not work instead of attempting to reiterate in other ways.

I’m not very skilled, but because I’m mildly popular in niche communities as a sort of pseudo personality, I can get away with charging $40 for a bust sketch. However, as I am already happy with my actual career and married into a wealthy family, I really only do these commissions because people badger me to do it.

So for me, making it has nothing to do with money. I actively don’t want a career in art. I just want to be good enough to draw my characters and stories to my own satisfaction.

>> No.6672384

Artists never make it. In the end they are never satisfied. They live their lives making other people happy.

Original phrase of "make it" comes from "make a living with it". So originally it's about money.

That being said humans are stupid and use words incorrectly so much, that pretty much everyone agrees that incorrect meaning is correct now.

I'll have made it when some anon asks for my socials, another answers, a third calls me a faggot because he remembers something I drew last year, and a fourth posts a screencap of me getting dunked on by an actual artist for posting cringe.

Basically when people start wondering who the fuck this @neil_kiggers guy is and what he does apart from poorly drawn anime pornography

A stable well paying career as an artist

People on this board are frankly economic morons. "Making it" for these people is like making a couple thousand dollars a month working full time. Obviously with no benefits or health care either. (Obviously talking about first worlders here if you are third world that's going to take you much further)

my personal goals for making it are:

no real reason, I just like big number

>live off art or at least enough to only need to do part time work
I hate the 9-5 grind
