>3d is still 2d because it's on a screen
>real life is still 2d because it's all just an image in our heads

Have you ever seen sights before? Our vision isn't a flat image, it's inherently a combination of image and cognition. The images and associated concepts are not separate, and depth is also an inherent part of the information we receive and process and project and become.

I've know that's what you're supposed to do, but I have no idea how to model 3D in 2D,

You have to get good at drawing wrapping lines. The greeks used to wrap strings around vases to help them see and draw the form. The equivilant of this these days would to just use a 3d model and view it in wireframe.

It took a while for it to click for me too but trying to learn from Vilppu while copying old drawings and paintings for gesture really helped me because you can see how the artist treated the form with their hatching/rendering of the subject. Straight lines are also your best friend, learn to turn straight lines into ellipses and it becomes a whole lot easier.

>drawing is just 3d but in 2d
a horrible generalization, here's an expanded view,[spoiler]moron[]/spoiler
>your mind is the machine
>your imagination the 3d viewport
>your knowledge the very code of the software
>your hands the rendering engine

don't ever make these incomplete analogies.
