If you are a /beg/inner or /int/ermediate in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the drawthread with fundamental exercises.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS wide using one of the following methods:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in MSPaint

TRY TO BE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK.
When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help. When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

I just want to draw the cartoon witches doing funny spells, this whole experience was just discouraging as fuck. I couldn’t focus, and when I was done, I don’t feel any closer to my goals. In fact, I feel even further, I can’t even draw straight lines. I already take stimulants to focus at all, but this just… this whole experience sucked.

>Did you even try drawing something upside down
Months ago, the picasso thing. Was I supposed to do that over and over? Why? I thought it was an example to show why symbol drawing is wrong because drawing upside down helps your brain look at the lines and realize the proportions they’re in with each other, and the gridding was to compartmentalize each part to facilitate that focus. Was I still supposed to keep drawing upside down? I thought I needed to do the videos because I’d understood the upside-down lesson, but my lines were all wobbly and bending wrong bc not drawing enough.

Again, I can’t focus on the writing in the sticky. I don’t know why it’s harder than just reading 4chan posts, I don’t understand a lot of my brain but it is.

I thought I was supposed to get better at lines and shapes next so I can take THAT to apply to building bodies out? Is it not?

>git gud at drawing straight lines

>git gud at drawing cones, cubes and cylinders

>learn perspective to give those items a world to BE in and not on top of

what you'll get in this thread is people giving how they feel about your drawing, not ultra directed advice, unless you specify that's what you want to learn or improve directly, that's when you'll get the best advice

NTA, I'm gonna borrow Steve Huston's explanation of gesture: It's the relationship between things, the "lifeline" of the figure. That may seem too philosophical, but... it kinda is, that's why it's one of the strangest fundamentals.
To get a little more practical, think of each line you make as the movement of the bodypart, trace some really good gestures if you can't feel it, then try to do some on your own.

Hey, pretty cute! I see some problem areas like the hands (4 fingers, lol) and the clothes, but let's focus on the big picture: The figure doesn't make sense, even if she is floating in zero g, look at the bangs and compare them to the rest of the hair, why are they affected by gravity while the hair isn't?
And from a coloring standpoint, why is the dress cel-shaded while the hair and eyes are rendered?

use a light red layer above your greyscale set to screen with like 75 opacity and then start your skin painting (if her outfit is supposed to be blue you can do the same but with a green-ish or blue-ish layer) and stack overlay layers while you're applying your colour
once you've got the general colour down start painting normally
Also remember different colours have different values, blue has a darker value than yellow so you have to adjust your painting values otherwise it will look washed out

I love this!! My advice to you would be to use more references. Even when you're doing something for fun, google "cute anime girl in dress" to see how others have dealt with dresses flaps, and even poses. You are already great but learning to seek help in others would help you advance years.

buy an ellipse template set
hold the template firmly on sheet with non-drawing hand. angle it in the direction you think you are best at drawing ellipses at currently. if you don't know then guess
pick an ellipse between 1.5-2" and and slowly trace it 30 times in a row without stopping
focus on activating your shoulder
take a 30 second break then do it again
do this for 30 minutes then take a break and let your brain solidify the muscle memory
if you do this for 2 weeks and still can't draw passable freehand ellipses you have brain damage

5 hours of practice. Felt super rusty after a small break (3 days of no drawing and a week of lackluster drawing), so spent the whole day practicing.

I draw 5 hours Monday - Friday and 2 hours at Saturday. And these are hours I actually clock in. 30 min timer > only drawing. Put the 30min on a sheet. Repeat till 5 hours are up. Usually takes about 6-8 hours, so a full day of work I guess.

Why I'm writing this? Because this has lessened my anxiety when it comes to drawing, and I wanted to share it with other people who might struggle with similar anxiety. I have a desktop calendar where I put up all my hours, so I can visualize the amount I work and see my progress. When I'm not drawing I can actually relax and just game or whatever without constantly worrying about whether I've worked enough or not - as I've previously done. From constant anxiety about drawing to enjoying drawing more and having more fun when I'm not drawing.

Sure, some super humans draw all day every day, but I'm not one, and I'm fine with not being one. I have my struggles when it comes to working hard and consistently. Some people don't. I had the displeasure of growing in a poor single mom household, so my life skills aren't so good. I was never held accountable for anything, nor was there ever anyone watching over me most of the day, so I could play video games all day, which definitely played a role in me becoming lazy. It's probably easier to work hard if you had a solid family support and parents who raised you to become a hard worker.

I'm gonna have a hard time phrasing this so bare with me.
So I JUST got it into my head how to intersect forms and know where they are in space. I was hoping someone could tell me how to show the contours of the forms that are intersecting another but only in line. If that's possible. Also if someone could tell me how to show the contours of a form that is completely taken up by the form behind it, again only in line if it's even possible. I'm super sorry for my wording but I have no clue how to phrase this. Thanks!

you're turning art into an algebra lesson, when it should be like learning a language. And you can only learn a language by reading a thousand books, and listening to thousands of hours of audio.

Throw out the drawabox lessons and start doing figure drawings. Copy through the Bridgman book 52 times. Get a comic book and copy every single panel.

Construct everything you build, yes. But also, you need to observe and see what the world actually looks like.

It's three point. The other point is in the image, between the two leftmost white chairs. On the right side, you can see the tall vertical lamps and the window frames out of skew with your yellow lines, meaning the third point is downward.
This is actually incorrect. Trying to draw three-point perspective crossing a horizon line necessarily causes distortion on one side of it. Here, line diverge going up, instead of converging, even when they're farther away from the viewer. It's not really a problem in this image, but ideally you'd want to use either two-point or curvilinear perspective to draw something like this.

To a degree but abstract is retarded. You could make an abstract piece that copies exactly the piece of another person in the same way and just say it's a statement about the monotony of the art world and now people love it. A lot of it is about the context of creation, if that makes sense.

I’m using procreate and I can’t get my head around perspective beyond a fucking basic level. I listened to some videos on it but I still suck at guessing perspective.

You draw the animu girls anyway, and this process will influence your efforts in abstract art.

I'd recommend the one you find more fun and produces the type of art you want to create.

The lineart is very crisp and clean and nice otherwise. I just think back to Vilppu saying

"It's not important to learn anatomy because you will be using it all the time but rather it's very obvious when an artist does not know anatomy."

paraphrased but anatomy you should practice if only to better inform what the ideal face looks like. every persons face looks different and obviously theres your style at play, but if you don't have a good reference in your mind of what a generic face looks like, its going to look off to everyone else.

Looks fantastic anon. If I had to come up with any criticism at all it's that the teeth of the 4-eyed hyena-lizard aren't distinguishable from the fur on the side of the face and the underside of the neck and chest. They have the same shape and appear to be a part of the nose
