Why You Should Copy Anime:

**Strive for quantity AND quality.**

Anime Studying:
>Copy anime references exactly and draw them from memory. Use illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.
>Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.
>Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.
>Number your attempts and link to your previous posts.
>Critiquers should lead by example by posting their studies.

General Anime Style Discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Draw copies from good anime styled references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

You can make an educated guess based on other artists' methods or your own. Part of studying it is deconstructing. If the person you're copying has process videos or wips you can infer from those how they achieved the effect.

Hello anon
Pay attention to the neck and the ears because they are too far away from the face.
You might want to practice drawing hair specifically paying attention to the shape and flow of the hair.
The hair needs some more shadows .
Try practicing different head angles,

You're at the level in which you need to use more guidelines. I can see you're barely using any, so the features look like they're floating on the face. Don't get discouraged. Try a different approach and use more guidelines next time. Try to break the faces you're copying up into smaller pieces and try again. You'll see a better result.

>>6604309
You're at the point in which the heads you draw look cute, but the lower body anatomy is so off it's distracting. By drawing the collarbone lines with black you're drawing attention to it. Here's an example. It was done with my mouse but you get the idea. You want to draw the away from your mistakes. Not attention. But please study full body figures at one point.

Forms are still "symbolic" and lack fully fleshed out depth. Try using wirelines on the surfaces of forms, like shown on the thighs here. You can stop using them later once you get more confident. Also try giving yourself more space to draw initially if you struggle with unintentional shrinking of the proportions (to fit the picture).
If the character is doing something as simple as sitting and holding the bra, consider posing them in a way that might fit an expression and overall impression to make it more interesting. For example, for trying to be slightly seductive you can throw in some slight tilting of body parts; in this case shoulders and head tilting in opposite directions and sell it with a sly smile.

What can I do to make my art have a feeling where when you look at it, you think "Oh, I didn't know a westerner made this, I thought it was a Japanese artist"? Even if I use very thin line work, it has a western feeling to it. Just what do these artists learn in their art education that puts them on such a different level?

Long shot but looking to find an artist. A couple of months ago I came across this youtube clip of a professional illustrator doing drapery/character studies in Photoshop in some form of a korean/asian/pseudo anime painted cel shading style. It was several characters on the same canvas. I think one of them was a dress shirt and another had some kind of red outfit but I my memory might be playing tricks on me. I recall being extremely impressed with the brush economy and efficiency of his rendering. The video was real time. There were several other videos on his channel and he did streams as well iirc. I saved the video but it has randomly disappeared from my list like is often the case with youtube (doesn't necessarily mean it's deleted). Anyone know who I might be thinking of?

He's right though. I copied anime and photos for 7+ years and it lead me nowhere. I'm still at 0 skill. Do yourself a favor and create original work and put thought and ideas into it, use reference if you have to. Just copying, no matter how accurate and no matter how much, will get you NOWHERE.

the framing is a little weird, the near figure’s almost perfectly divided in half by the frame, and i can’t tell if you want to show the ears or not. maybe play with zooming out just enough that you frame the near figure nicely while remaining while leaving the accuracy of perspective you’ve determined be. great work, this is fantastic. i think it’d be very cool no matter how you work it, so my reply’s really just a very minor nitpick because you asked for a deep dive.

Stopped drawing Uraraka and started studying an artist I saw linked here and liked a lot. I've copied most of his pictures now, and I feel like I'm Improving somewhat (definitely getting faster). Im starting RinoTuna's course, but after the first video I'm seeing a lot of explanations and theories and not really anything resembling homework or like.. instructions so to speak.

I can't sit through another 2 hour video right now, does he get more hands in on his teaching - to anyone else who might be doing the course? I really want to learn construction but it's so intimidating.
