Recently just deleted my Newgrounds account because I was tired of being stuck at 16 followers after a year + I still very very far from being a competent enough artist to get a big following. Maybe I'll recreate it once I'm significantly more skilled, but still.

Mostly trying to get good at character art, smut and soon mecha/vehicle design, but most of my art here was still uninteresting high-/beg/ and low-/int/ shit. Not going to post anywhere else other than Twitter and maybe drawthread in other boards until I'm competent enough by internet artists standards and capable of appeal.

I spent a long time waiting to "get good" before posting my art online. I often nuked accounts after a while or abandoned them. It's honestly one of my biggest regrets.
I'm still not the best at drawing now, but i'm just happy to be sharing it with anyone willing to see it.

Lineart only because my current coloring skills put down my art even more. Those aren't even that new since they're like a week old or slighty more, most recent things I drew were mostly life drawings and cubes/cylinders/organic forms since I'm trying to get rid of my ingrained bad sense of form and 3d space after years of drawing while studying very little, oh and an attempt at NSFW but it's furry so I can't post it. I can only draw for 2-3 hours max as of now since very soon I'll have my final exams for the driver's license in 2 weeks, so I'm trying to regulate what to do without never skipping a day (in my dark ages I used to take months long hiatuses often). Current first goal is getting a good grasp at organic form/intuitive perspective alongside gesture and basic anatomy (I already have few experiences with those, tho results ended wonky most of the time due to the bad way I've learned how to draw), basically being able to give organicness and dynamism to my figures/characters and being able to put them in most camera angles. I've done a few master studies as well of mangakas I like, but It's more of a very secondary thing for now since I'm working on my observational and intuitive perspective abilities.

>tl;dr I have bad habits and ingrained shit shape design due to time spent drawing with very little draftmanship practice. I want to get on an hardcore grind now that I'm more mature and disciplined enough to sustain it just for the pleasure of getting gud faster, but irl things currently won't let me do it, so I'm scheduling my time without never skipping a day.

Unironically start posting on plebbit, Gabe. If you post in the right sub, it's easy to get a lot of internet points, even if you aren't very skilled. If we're being real here, your art is a lot better than most of the people on this board, you just get crabbed a lot because your sense of appeal and color needs to be improved.

Eh, a lot of shit over there but some small art related subreddits do seem more helpful than /ic/ in the last 2 years. Another thing I could consider is the Patreon Discord server of someone skilled I'm a fan of since from what I've heard those are usually pretty helpful as well (unless the artist who owns it is a schizo but still). I'm aiming for pro level art and I plan to get a career (either online or with other things like an indie game or a comic) out of it, though I'm not sure it's better to aim for the italian internet scene since it's still small and underdeveloped, rather than the much wider and saturated anglo-speaking part of the internet. It could still get recognition worldwide if decently translated and marketed (look at Undertale/Deltarune and their massive popularity in Japan) but still.
I will never give up on my dreams.

No, but I deleted my DeviantArt with around 200 followers after a year of inactivity because I was concentrating on getting good. No regrets, although sometimes people from back then find me nowadays and tell me they were sad I just disappeared. That was a while ago though, these days a lot of people seem to not connect anymore and see followers only as a number.

I don't think you should be concerned with numbers, but if you are, keep posting and grow your account. Deleting is resetting you social media progress. By the way, NG is actively scouting for art to put on their frontpage. By humans. Every day. If you produce high quality content you will get seen eventually, trust me.

>>6543561
Good enough to build an audience. Try twitter as well. Try pandering to fanbases. You should be able to get at least a few hundred over the course of the year that way. Trust me though, even ten thousand followers mean basically nothing. Drawing for social media is cringe.

Deleting your art because you don't have any followers is retarded.

You'll be back in six months with better art, get no followers again because that's not actually how this works, and delete the new account even faster.

I'm already decently "popular" (445 followers and growing) on Twitter, the thing is that I still need to push out a little more and fix both my social and marketing skills to truly succeed. My biggest problem is that I get jealous of other artist's goals (trivial shit like "Why is this popular artist following my friend and not me? Is there something in my art that doesn't appeal to most people?" when some of the bigger artists who ignore me don't even know me in the first place) and can't accept that I'm not on par with other people (tho be fair, those other people draw more regularly than I can now and have been at it for like 3+ years than me), but that comes from deeper self-esteem issues and the fear of talking to people I don't talk much to, especially if I feel I'm being annoying to them. I know, I'm kind of a piece of shit with a rocky past and I accept it at this point, but the only thing I have the will to do unless I grow more balls is just being respectful, not annoying other people and accept my flaws and and all the critique I get while moving foward.

Skill is a factor but a lot is just dumb luck. I've seen one piece of my art wryyyyyyposted a number of times and reused in memes and shit, and in one instance a repost get near 200k likes in no time, but back when I posted it... it just kinda floundered there for years in my gallery. I thought it was good, but apparently normalfags fucking loved it. Same picture, different circumstances, wildly different responses. Once you reach intermediate it's just endless crapshoots until you get lucky and one of you postings catches the right eyes at the right time and it snowballs into more and more traction.

yeah, just think a lot about weight. With such a big head you have to be careful of drawing her "P shaped" like you did, it looks like she's about to tip over. Don't be afraid to let the limbs be closer to the body, get up from the chair and do the pose yourself to find what feels natural, and pay special attention to the weight-bearing leg.

>Your designs look like garish mid-2000s webcomic/deviantart stuff
Really? Not sure if it's because my lack of technique is still present enough to not let me pull it out fully, I'm going for a slighty cartoony art style based on shapes and forms but with a good understanding of gesture, figures and detailing behind. My main influences are:
>Hiroyuki Takei
>Kotha Hirano
>Kazuki Takahashi
>Kazushi Hagiwara
>Aru Urara
>Metal Slug (not an artist but was very formative to me)
>Philippe Druillet (mainly for backgrounds and vehicle/environmental design)
>Jean Claude Mezieres (ditto)
>Moebius (ditto)
>Kunio Okawara (ditto but for mecha design)
>Old Frank Miller (his inking style and some character design ideas)
That's it for now, I know it may feel like I'm out of touch with modernity despite my age but I don't care much if something is old or not if I like it. Despite really being into anthro art and drawing mostly furries, Aru Urara i'd say is the one that inspires me the most (Watatanza is seconf place, I also dig Isatorus/Smekbo and some old bittenhardly stuff regarding smaller internet artists). If you want to suggest other artists (recent or not) I could take influence from for what I'm aiming to draw you're free to give suggestions.

>> No.6543772

Thank you again for your example! I guess a natural understanding of how to distribute natural weight to the body comes from doing a lot of practice with gesture and a better understanding for how the center of gravity works like.

It might be time to take a composition course, there's a lot of frills and embellishments to your characters that make them extremely "busy" to look at. Looking at one of your influences, I found this. There's a lot going on here, but notice the eye path in green leading the viewer to the face, and see how there's an alternating pattern between "busier" and "cleaner" parts of the drawing. I think the accoutrements that you're putting on your characters is getting in the way of a clear silhouette, gesture, and intention. It's not that you have to strip them away, but try to be more conscious of where you're placing them and where you want the viewer's attention to be. It's a tough thing to do, but I think getting a handle on your weight, gesture, and composition will go a long way toward making your drawings more appealing. Remember that people are probably going to see your drawings for 0.3 seconds as they scroll by, you want clarity clarity clarity.

Sorry for the late response. I took a look and my conclusion is - you're doing everything right. Good tweet retweet ratio, good art, accessible kinks, popular fanbases, clean media tab. Breaking the first K is always the hardest. Keep doing what you do, occassionally branch out to see if some other stuff sticks - FOTM and super popular franchizes like Pkmn are good to make buck, but you are also likely to drown in a sea of other creators catering to the same thing, so experiment a bit (but don't force yourself to draw for stuff you're not interested in, stick true to your way). Try to make friends with other NSFW artists. There are small discords and circles, etc where we medium to big artists like to chill. Make some connections. The first step is always a bit akward, as it requires you to reach out to others via DM. Stick to artists you personally like and those adjacent to what you do, also stick to roughly your size. I think writing up to 10ks is okay as well, just don't come off as leeching.

My prognosis if you just keep doing what you do is that you'll reach 10k in a year or two. If you network it will be MUCH faster. For me as a SFW artist it took around 2 years of semi-frequent posting and some fanart to reach around 10k. Hope this insight was helpful. While you have influence over your social media growth luck still plays a role. But if you have a nice looking main page people are more likely to stick around when you hit a bingo and a post gets viral. (And I think you got that going for you)

Also I'd suggest separating the bizarre pieces to another account. Mixing it in gives your gallery more of a "haha drawn porn, funny crazy shit huh" vibe, which isn't what most drawn porn fans are looking for. From a quick glance, things like the gif of Black Widow getting pounded was probably the most promising start for gaining a porn art fan following.

I idly look at some artists who have a fair amount of followers, and can see some inconsistent quality of their work, complete with lolwut-tier mistakes - but these shittier pieces don't seem to do "worse" than their better pieces, and still generate engagement. Sure, your artist friends and enemies might see your mistakes and be able to tell when something isn't up to par, but there's a very good chance that the average fan won't be able to tell the difference.

Spotted your problem. Got 2k in DA and Pixiv and 600 in Twitter. NG less than 100. You need to use more active sites.

I keep uploading work but it's only getting a couple dozen views. It feels like shouting out at the void.

I really shouldn't have deleted my accounts whenever I get really fucking depressed.

Btw here's an attempt following Villpu's manual. Liking it much more than every figure drawing resources I've used thus far but the shapes need more work.

Furthermore, one of my very first "master study" to delevop my art style more. Again, I didn't get the shapes and proportions fully right but it's a start at least. If it helps sometimes I also draw objects from my house as a warm up, and I noticed the bigger the canvas is the more accurate the results are.

Well, the good news is that master studies turbocharge your gains. Keep it up. If you spend 30 minutes a day doing gestures as warm up and then a master study (alternate between doing copies and re-drawing the ones from yesterday from memory, make sure to note and fix your mistakes) you'll improve in no time.

ive deleted my accounts a few times in the past, though not because i had too low a follower count, but because it was getting too high (relatively, i havent had a 4 digit follower count profile on anything yet). the constant bombardment of numbers was overall just demoralizing and seeing things i was proud of do poorly while work i had to dispassionately push through ended up defining my presence online.

nowadays i just draw for my friends and myself, sometimes they pull me in to work on some studio shit when they are short staffed but otherwise i stay out of promoting myself online. i no longer care to participate in the rat race, yall can have it.

I got to drawing last year and I already went through three different accounts since I didn't know what to use for a name. I'm still indecisive, but this time I won't bother to delete the current one. I don't feel like doing all the social management until I'm comfortable with the name

Hey, I'm this anon, again. The last time I posted was in the middle of February and since then I lost at least a bit over 40 followers. I understand that I haven't been active for almost an entire month, but losing over 40 in that time seems incredibly unheard of to me. I've never seen anything like it when I'd use other platforms. Never seen it on dA, Pixiv, etc. Because of this problem I've never been able to go above 1k followers.

This whole bleeding out has been happening for years on Twitter. What is going on exactly?

I've never deleted accounts from lack of attention, only because they were degenerate secret alts that I got a bit conscious of. Drawing cunny is fun, just sometimes that niggling fear of being ousted is in the back of my head.

I'm losing 50 followers on there every month. Since the start of the year around 150 people left. Reasons? Who cares, but probably in between the following
- people leaving twitter due to new policies
- ppl disappointed you don't post content relevant to them
- ppl were only hoping for you to follow back
- bot purge

Just stop caring, these people are not your audience

I've been drawing for some 8 years and never broke 100 followers. Made a softcore porn account and got 80 followers in like 3 days.
I'm not good at screeching and I don't like "vibing" with other artists, also I'm not a woman, I just posted drawings. I don't like coomers and I'm not a prostitute so I eventually dropped off the internet. It hurts because I really wanted to make art but you can't compete for attention unless you're absolutely ruthless about it.

>> No.6555131

And I mean I still draw often for myself and when I have a tabletop group but I really wanted to make comics and have a little audience. By the time I got good enough to make something good looking the whole webtoon thing came out and I felt like I had zero chances of competing. I'm really bad at getting attention from people and when I try I hate myself, I'm wooden and insincere and I hate the jargon used and the whole chasing conversations thing and struggling to stay relevant and on top of the wave. I just want to make shit and post it but if you do this it's hopeless. Unless you make porn I guess but I don't wanna jerk people off for attention and money.

Draw the community fetishes if you want followers. And communicate with people! People fail to understand NewGrounds has a pretty robust community to be in. You just have to socialize in the forums and get yourself out there.
People there collab and shit so you know they aren't just random nobodies. Communicate! Ask for critiques, give critiques, participate in activities, draw other people's OCs, be interested and talk about their OCs, and make conversations; be an honest human being!
Don't delude yourself into thinking you only need skill to get out there, if you want to be somebody, you have to stop acting like a nobody. The way you are going about it, you'll come back after you think you're skilled enough and then do the whole deleting phase again.

Yeah, i did 3 Twitter accounts before finally setting in, all the time was because of depression and little to no engagement (mostly due to me posting once every 2 or 3 months due to said depression) , ive been pulled through it tho, and finally manage to enjoy the process of drawing instead of feeling like my brain was about to kill itself from trying to come up with something and be more consistent; i made some frens along the way as well as money now that i stopped to worry and enjoy the ride.
