Have you guys ever been discriminated for drawing?
I started drawing when I was about 13 because I was watching animation and something just clicked, I knew that animation was a frame at a time work, but it just dawned on me how impressive it actually was to have it, and I came to admire animators and artists.
I drew in my class notebooks which eventually pissed my teacher and my mom, they told me to get a notebook for drawing if I wanted to draw so badly and do it at home, so I did, but one day my mom threw my drawing notebook to the trash because "I was wasting time when I could be studying" she didn't object to me playing videogames but she did object to drawing.
At that time the girls would start dating and they would mock me for drawing when their boyfriends would be into sports.
They made me number each page in my notebooks so they would know if I ripped a page to draw.
Besides, they got me into martial arts to keep me occupied.
So I just stopped drawing.
During my teens I would ask my parents to get me into a drawing course during summers, but they'd say they would gladly pay music, dance, sports, theater, anything BUT drawing.
Finally entered college, I entered a STEM career which I didn't hate to keep my parents happy, especially since it left me with not much free time to get a job and I still depended on their money, I couldn't choose any career. I did end up liking it, but it was so hard and I would barely have any energy to practice a week, during 5 years.

I was an adult so they wouldn't throw my stuff away anymore, but they will rather tell me how shit my drawings were and rather focus myself in other stuff.
I remember when one occasion I told my family just a passing comment about how animators were badly paid, and their response was: "They should be paid less".
It has been mostly my family, but usually when I get a date with some girl, I can see their disappointment when I mention my hobby is drawing when they ask.

Considering where I we are with AI now, the morally correct thing to do when you see a young person drawing is to discourage them so they don't waste their life on a dead and retarded craft.

Anon, at some point my major started focus on AI, so I'm actually learning to train AI and shit, still want to draw, is a necessity.
>misery porn story
I don't think it's that sad, I would've liked more support and still remember it with some bitterness every once in a while, but I'm not suicidal or anything.

I drew a penis on almost every page of my best friends school work book, I would be talking to him but with my peripheral vision I would be drawing a cock on his book all the time. kek. Him getting angry at me is the only instance of "artist discrimination" I can mention that's unique to me. But it was funny as fuck. It sounds like you've just been bullied all your life and you haven't been able to stand up for yourself or why you think art is worthwhile. Or you care WAY too much about what people think of you so you just accept their outlook is true.
>their disappointment when I mention my hobby is drawing when they ask
this is the general view of drawing and you just have to accept it. They imagine those crackheads that make paintings with spray cans, or make art of garbage. There's no respect for it at all because it ranges from absolutely zero worth stuff like you see come out of art colleges to the most beautiful stuff that makes life worth living. No one expects you to be doing the good stuff without knowing you.
Or maybe you just made it up for misery porn as anon says.

I feel like I'm not getting the whole story. Normalfags love art and drawing and while I had parents that were against me drawing they didn't take such extreme measures. Most people in my school thought my doodles were cool. You must've been drawing some fucked up stuff
