I use a very tight 'precision' grip with my thumb,index and middle fingertips. I can only work on a single page or 2 a day maximum before it starts hurting.

The grip is so strong that when I put down the pencil there is a slight indentation on my fingertips from holding the pencil so hard. As expected, the paper gets pretty beat as a result.

I manage to mitigate this some by using a rubber grip or just putting a small piece of those kneaded rubber erasers around the area where I hold the pencil.

I honestly feel uncomfortable holding it in any other way.

Your grip is not doing you any favors.
You should force yourself to draw a page a day using a loose grip, even though you find it uncomfortable. You are doing physical damage to your hand using that death grip. If I had to guess the reason you grip so tight is because you want total control of your lines, however this has the opposite effect: a super tight grip makes your lines look unsteady and stiff. You gotta loosen up bro.

i grip my pen like shit, and really hard. to the point where my finger has a black spot, my nail grows fucked. strange thing is that i don't press the pencil hard against the paper.

My nig, you need to switch up your grip and take some time working on loosening up.
Do the basic line control exercises that Peter Han teaches here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgDNDOKnArk and take up a habit of "automatic drawing", like in these videos for example

If you can only draw a page or two a day then you're doing something seriously wrong and you NEED to fix it pronto. I really, seriously mean it, if you continue on like this you will *inevitably* destroy your hand/wrist. Not only that but, seemingly paradoxically, the looser and more relaxed you are, the more control you have over your lines and marks.

Anyone else dynamic tripod master race here?
I don't hold a pencil very tight at all, and my grasp is way higher on the pen than it used to be. Beginners probably have a tight grip and always very low on the pen (aka closer to the surface) just like when you first learn handwriting. Also, just sometimes I use a 'Kung-Fu grip' aka with a pencil between my index and middle fingers.
