I'm sure a lot of you are like this too, but when I was a kid the first thing I was ever interested in was video games and art always came second. Now that I'm older I'm still really good at games (won some local tournaments, high ranked in games but not anywhere near the top), but I'll never be good enough to go pro or actually make money from my gaming habit. I'm too autistic to be a popular streamer. I wish I'd done art first, when my neuroplasticity was receptive to learning skills. If I could go back I'd focus more on artwork at the start. Am I doomed? Gaming was such a waste of time.

It's possible to reach that level of intuition in a new skill as an adult but expect it to take like 10 years of daily practice (+6hrs)

Game design IS an art form.

Back in the stone ages of computing,my roommate and I would deathmatch in a map that he created and filled with hidey holes and deathtraps, and I had to find him and lay ambushes of my own. I tried making a map and it turned out as a Temple to the OctaGod ,with a hole in the basement that dropped you out of the ceiling. I found Second Life and spent 5 years being amazed by the stuff that could be made. This was a dance club I made. New age music to slow dance to,scenic views to meditate in,and concealed beneath it was my store where I sold animated paintings and other stuff. Art is where you find it, and don't be constrained by your choice of mediums .

Just uninstall the vidya. "muh neuroplasticity" is just a cop-out for self-sabotaging lazy ppl who don't want to believe that working hard = better art
I used to place in fighting game tournaments as well but once I realized that I didn't actually care about becoming a pro player, I ditched it for good and dedicated all that time towards drawing instead.
Keep track of how much work you put in daily, is it enough to reach your goals in the time set? How much do you actually draw? How about your studies? Maybe look around your city and see if there's any art guilds you can attend. You'd be surprised how many cheap/free model drawing sessions there are out there.

also >>6471123 if you really liked art you'd be drawing right now instead of making these retarded threads.

also, see if your local community colleges have any art classes. They're relatively cheap and you can just attend without gunning for an art degree. You'll have real instruction and if you can land a figure drawing class that'll be even better if you want to learn how to draw people. Of course you need to be willing to put extra hours in drawing at home for personal work AND research but it's nice to have some IRL direction

You take longer to learn new skills after 25, but you still can learn them, otherwise our boomer parents would never learn to use a smartphone.

Same

No

Yes, I wasted my life with games, and anime too

I play games, and still draw too. I also watch review videos and gain a glimmering of the fundamentals of the design philosophy behind them, for a deeper understanding of the medium of game design. If I were a kid now,I would be experimenting with modding Skyrim and other games with the encouragement to do so by the developers. But I got as far as making my own skin for Quake 2 since I frequented the last few servers still running multiplayer. And I fell in love with Second Life. Pic is from the Goth Club I made to be a demon strip club above with store booths below.

Art gets really fun, satisfying and relaxing after you get decent, like half way on your way getting good. That might now help you now, but take it as motivation to discipline yourself to get at least decent(ish). From there the ride is much more enjoyable if you have a strong interest in art and are in for the right reasons. Had the same problems with gaming/procrastination. I got exhausted after only 20minutes of drawing, measuring proportions felt like torture, but I knew I loved drawing, even though it can feel paraxodical at those points. Stick to it and unironically "just draw". Make sure to not only study, but also draw stuff that's fun.

for 99% of artists art was a waste of time too. At least with games you'll have some cool memories and experiences to remember. Especially if you played with friends.
