The only fun in life is trying hard to do something you can't quite accomplish. There is no real fun in accomplishing some definite fixed thing.

It is not easy. It is never easy. There is no magic about it. It is just as much a science as the science of a doctor. It has to be studied and worked at, and even then you never really learn it. No one has any magic way of doing It. No one has anything to start with except an over-mastering desire to do it, and the more you have the desire, the more you will work at it and the more you will learn. I am still working at it and learning, and that is all I care about. I don't care about the pictures I have painted. I may become fond of one and say "that's a good one but all I really care about is working at this thing, and it is still so far ahead of me that I shall never reach it, and have only just begun to know anything about it.

There hasn't been "education" for several generations. Ever since the marxist-modernists crashed through the gates like barbarians and destroyed the academia.
There has just been various forms of autodidactism since. And fake schools that purposely teach you wrong, as a joke.

It isn't taught, it's directed. A film director can lead actors in a certain direction, but at the end of the day they have to show up and do the work. The learning primarily comes from showing up and doing the work.

It's easier to think about things in terms of filters.
here's some:
you don't actually enjoy making art, or don't experience positive rewards for making it
you hate drawing
you only practice and never make art
you are addicted to dumb shit like videogames and don't draw consistently
you are neet and depressed
you have aphantasia and fall for the aphantasia ngmi meme and let it limit you
you don't take the advice other people give you
you have retards surrounding you that give you terrible advice
you don't apply the information/techniques you hear about to your work
you don't have the time to draw
you have the time to draw but don't
you are dumb as a rock
you never draw from imagination/memory

overcome your filters when possible.

Some people just can't study nor recognize what makes art. They are incapable of it, their neurology won't allow for it. They can see art and recognize it as "good" but if you gave them their entire lives to figure out why they couldn't do it. This is what people actually refer to when they suggest some people cannot be good at art, and it is a genuine thing that undeniably stems from childhood or simply how their brain is built.

>> No.6462084

I would categorize said people as being as dumb as a rock. One of humanity's greatest talents is being able to learn things from other people. It is why we are so good at things in general. You don't need to figure out how to make decent art on your own, other people will gladly tell you what they think your work is missing and how to make it better. Sometimes they will even directly draw on your work to show you.

People simply refuse to swallow this pill. They don't want to get too technical because their work "loses soul" or something.

Art is a language. And like any language you learn, you don't start talking and writing it fluently. You have to learn the grammar, learn words, grasp idioms etc. The more you do this, the more you become able to freely express yourself.

Art is a different kind of language... but it seems there is a correspondence between most english sentences and drawings. Thats why we can get illustrated books and those things. I mean, if there is a scene in a book saying "John shoot Steve", there are only so many ways you represent it (you likely wouldn't illustrate this scene as a wholesome family dinner, for instance, but it depends on context)

>> No.6463035

>>6463026
The "language" of art is in things like subtle variation of line weight, color choices, perspective, lighting, composition, layering, hatching, shape design. The scene you described could be drawn practically in an infinite number of different ways, but if your reading is on the level where all you can see is three elements (person 1, person 2, gun...) I guess you would be more into something like literature.

>> No.6463037

>>6462388
Blindly means without thinking. If someone does something cool, you draw it. No analysis, no thinking. If you mess something up, you fix it. you might spend 200 hours on the same image. By the end, you are simply able to do way more than when you began the image.

Photo studies are bad because they do not teach anything about artistic process. Many artists have a different workflow for photos than they do for personal work, or even master studies (copying other artwork). Photos should be referenced or analyzed. Copying them is often useless, unless the exact image is used for illustration purposes.

It can. Just not by people. The only teacher is nature. Go look at some nature (stuff) and draw it (stuff). That's how you learn to draw.

You can divide this up into steps, like,
1. Observe
2. Analyze
3. Make the observations and analysis part of your being.

and for that, we have three drawing methods

1. Contour drawing
2. Construction drawing
3. Gesture drawing

But ultimately, one learns to draw by drawing, and by comprehending nature, not by following advice, least of all mine.
