He is pointing out the hypocrisy of people when voicing issues like this, it is only accepted when you make it generic, and passive aggressive towards an imaginary target for the sake of being relatable, but when you say it upfront and honestly, no matter the way you phrase it, it's not good.
I once saw an artist I liked speaking his heart and saying he was sad he wasnt getting as much engagement, you think he got a million likes, retweets and comments for that? of course not, because it wasnt relatable.

Indeed, although while I consider the latter to be cringe, I feel significantly worse about the former.
I mean, the one of the guy ripping his art makes him look very lame, but I commend someone and it makes me kind of sad for him, and I commend he is honest about it. Comics like this where "NSFW Has it easy!" pop up at least once every couple weeks if not quicker. At this point it's safe to assume someone making this knows it'll track and get easy engagement. The negative to this is that it usually ends up being people dunking on you instead.

NSFW artist don't blow up as easily as people think. There are a ton of artists that do NSFW and have a very small following and all the large and well known accounts built their fanbase up over years of consistently working.


It's the same for SFW. These comics end up coming off as cope because their art style just might not be that appealing. The person that started spreading this on twitter has an art style that fits that bill because all his anthros look like kids.

If you're critiquing something, but draw yourself as a blank canvas with minimal emotion and then turn out to be wrong, you can still claim that you weren't that emotionally invested in the first place.
I cringe at the second comic more because there is more of a raw feeling to it and this childish resentment that artist feels over their "hard work" not being recognised which is both honest and likely embarrassing to think back on.
It's easier to err on the side of caution and pretend that you don't actually care that much, even if it's dishonest because you'd be leaving yourself vulnerable to be made fun of for having a strong emotional response to what others may deem trivial.
I disagree with that anon on one point though; I think it's perfectly understandable to do critique like this and I actually prefer it this way.
Nothing is as cringy as artists drawing themselves, pointing at the screen and whining about how unfair things are for them.
When you draw two characters chatting about the issue instead, it can still be cringy but not nearly to that degree and other people can still point out the errors without having to directly point their finger at the artist. I mean, they probably will anyway, but I still think it softens the blow.

Even better is when these people will take their OC and write a page about how cool they are. How about drawing that instead? And this is why I shill my character in socials, nobody cares about OCs, but that doesnt stop me from making them care about her by making engaging stuff that spark interest, or at least the generic "standing here I realized" piece that makes them want more of her because they like the design. Either way it is a win for me since I really love drawing said character, so even if I dont get much feedback, I still have fun drawing her... and it's also a matter of being persistent, as she has proven to have quite a fanbase (small, but still).

As someone who has dealt with this shit happening, my best guess is that "drawing that" takes a lot of effort that a handful of people are not willing to put, which sucks when you think about it, I would like to be able to put more effort to make more engaging and interesting stuff.
