Is there really that much disconnect drawing on a tablet that doesn't have it's own screen?

>> No.6453577

There is so much disconnect it drives people to spend $2000 on a cintiq rather than on an intuos

>> No.6453579

Not really, I've tried nearly every tablet under the sun. My preferred tablet is the intuos pro. But I can make due with the standard intuos for 70 buckaroos.

>> No.6453580

Not really no, some people like the tablet with the screen. But honestly I think it’s overrated

>> No.6453584

No. In fact, I'd think if you learned on a screenless, you'd have a really easy time transitioning to one with a screen.

>> No.6453590

Varies a lot between people. Some people can never get over the disconnected feeling. Others can get used to it so that it becomes pretty much second nature. Some never feel much disconnect at all.

>> No.6453591

I actually prefer it to a screen tablet, and my hand now annoys me when drawing trad.

>> No.6453592

If you can play video games, you can use a screenless tablet.

>> No.6453599

>>6453572
yeah. buy a cheap one and see it for yourself

>> No.6453604

There is if you get a really tiny 4x6 thing. All of your movements are exaggerated.

>> No.6453627

I used a screenless tablet for over a decade. While I draw on paper for studies and observational drawing, I never really realized how much using a screenless tablet was holding me back on my original shit until I got one with a screen. My accuracy, sketching speed, and overall drawing quality improved quite quickly after switching over.

It's fine if you love drawing the same line 700 times. There's a reason display tablets are 10x as expensive as pen tablets, and it's not just the tech that goes into them.

>>6453572
No. Its kind of like riding a bicycle. Once you get over that initial strange feeling, you're pretty much set. I prefer screen-less tablets because they're cheap, easy to replace, and not complicated to set up at all. A lot of good artists I've seen prefer display though, which is fine.

I highly prefer screenless. Screen tablets are uncomfortable because of having to angle them and look down, which hurts my neck. Plus the texture is much better compared to a screen.

Is not for everybody, my workflow is to sketch on a wacom one (screen) and do everything else on a screenless tablet (I use a wacom pro L, the bigger the better).
I do this because 1) I sketch faster when I can see my hand movements 2) I like the feeling and sensitivity of the screenless for details. People like david revoy also do this (from what ive seen on videos)

>because of having to angle them and look down
Why is this such a common complaint? How do you guys not have the brainpower to figure out how to put a display vertical?

>> No.6453720

I prefer screenless especially at home
Have a graphics one at work and it takea up so much space, have to plan your whole workstation around it and shit

>> No.6453734

Screenless has always been my preference, but if you aren't married to one or the other, and you have the funds, you might as well go with a screened tablet. Most people who use them, prefer them. So I'm sure I'm something of an outlier on my preference. Plus, there's a good chance screenless tablets might one day die out if demand for them continues to fall as screen tablets become more accessible price wise.

Upgraded to screen about a year ago, using it flat on the table is killer for your back, the 30 degree stand that came with it helped, but not enough. Got one that went up to 45 and felt way better. This christmas I upgraded to a stand that pretty much goes all the way to 90, and have it set to 70 degrees or so, feels great, it's basically like doing trad on an easel.

I would rather draw on paper than ever use one of those

It takes some getting used to, especially for accuracy, you probably don't remember, but learning to use a mouse for computer was the same disconnect.
Still, screen tablets do have their advantages, generally bigger working space, and easier to draw/paint exactly where you want without having to carefully position the cursor first. You can just make lines right where you want them.

>> No.6454235

I sold my 24" 4K pen display to go back to Intuos Pro so...

if you are really into precise lineart then maybe the pen display is an advantage otherwise I would stick to screenless.

Less prone to break since it has no display, occupy waaay less space and even can be used wireless.

The only tablets with display worth in my opinion are Ipad Pros and Samsung Tab tablets if you prefer Android.

>> No.6454241

i have a screen tablet but i lost one of the cables so it works as a screenless tablet now and i find that a better way to draw to be honest

At the start yes, then you become one with the screenless tablet. After a decade I still long for a big screen tablet anyways.

>> No.6454296

I prefer screenless.
Price x size ratio. Hand doesn't obstacle view. Like 2 years ago " i can't see what i draw" was very popular argument against screenless tablets. But it's bullshit you still can see mouse pointer outside of drawing software and inside too
Altought if i were about to buy elbow X elbow sized would go for a screen

the cursor/pointer is true, actually I prefer when apps have a crosshair mode.
