but, can a machine make something like this?

Yes

Is this AI? I don't know what is AI and what is not, because I don't have refined taste. I can't trust any art anymore. FUCK!

>> No.6450103

i've been fucking around with midjourney for about 4 hours at this point and it's trash. it can shit out a thousand pop-fantasy landscapes and sci fi trash, it can shit out real life in any style you like, but anything specific or niche is fucking impossible to generate and it's impossible to get the AI to do anything consistently

>generate me an ancient chinese city on fire
almost works

>generate me a hyper muscular rat man getting fucked in the ass by an equally muscular wolf man. the rat man is hypnotised. the wolf man is clawing up his back. they are each the size of a pick up truck. their cocks are... etc. etc.
doesn't work at ALL.

but it can't generate fetish porn - so what? well, everything is fetish porn from a certain perspective. anyone who is creative in any way has a specific vision that they are trying to realise. if you're a writer and just want illustrations - sure. works well enough for that. but if you want to create visual art of something specific for an actual reason, instead of just because you're fucking around, it doesn't work at all. it's not even "almost there".

and it won't get better, because it all comes down to how it's made - data in, remixes out. but there isn't enough data in the world to communicate your ultra-specific niche desires, pornographic or otherwise, to it. and you can't get there step by step either. sure, you can prompt it to "make the muscles bigger. no, bigger. bigger. BIGGER." but it always fails, or caps out at just a tiny bit more than human, because it can't draw something it hasn't seen and it doesn't really have an imagination. it can't open an anatomy book, visualise the forms, make them bigger, and then consider the impact that would have on how the arm would be positioned if the bicep was the size of a basketball and the pec was the size of a pillow. it can't do that because that's not how it draws an image - it doesn't plan an image, it just randomly generates things and culls the ones that have "errors"

the point is that midjourney might ease the demand for artists but it won't ease the supply of them, because artists fundamentally create art for themselves first of all. people then to make, or at least be motivated to learn, because they have an idea that they want to realise.

midjourney can't help with that. not unless your idea is so fucking painfully generic that you're practically already a computer.

Self-organized, wrought from the clay
(Golem)
Our king by night, our slave by the day
(Giga-giga-gilgamesh)
What do you know?
Watch the human life show
OK let's go
Oh, my double
He can pop your bubble
That means trouble

It's not AI. The structure of the painting makes too much sense. That said, it's almost certainly made with 3D models.

>Everything within the picture is legible and clear
>There is intentional design, a unique style, and a clear idea being presented
Gee, I'm having a really hard time figuring this one out, guys

exactly right. You actually don't realize just HOW limited that this thing really is, because it doesn't "draw" in any real sense. Everything within the latent space of a dataset is a fixed set of interpolations, an archive if you will, and when you proompt you're essentially just doing an image search to pull up relevant data points from within this archive. In a sense, it's just Animorphs all the way down.

Just so everyone is aware, the last AI bait thread got deleted by the jannies so they're almost guaranteed to start flocking to this thread. To that end I will employ the necessary Anti-Shill Countermeasures. Have a good day, everyone.

Sometimes we like to drop generations from unreleased models on /ic/ and other art communities. Plausible deniability and a good reality check for how we're doing.

Apparently we're doing pretty well :-)

Real artists are making even more money now since AI became a thing.

This concludes the dissemination of Anti-Shill Countermeasures in this thread. Anons of /ic/, please feel free to take a copy of these to use where appropriate. Thank you for your time.

You need to try them out. You'll quickly see how limited they are.

no idea about midjourney, but the best current image generators (like imagen or parti) are actually pretty impresive at solving complex prompts. they must have some limitation compared to humans, but generating complex prompts is not
maybe midjourney is kinda shit in that sense, or you haven't learned to use it properly yet, or your prompts are being censored maybe?

ai niggers get extra uppity whenever there's opposition to their new toy, it's the way of things. happened when csp made a stance and it's happening again due to eu regulation.
there's a /pol/ thread on /g/ crying about it rn.

If legislators are so retarded at understanding this simple ai image shit, imagine when they have to decide on real shit, like machine rights vs human rights
We're in for a shitstorm in the next couple decades
