Holy shit. There are no fucking shortcuts are there? Composition, anatomy, gesture, values, etc... You need to master all these to produce a half-decent piece. Holy fuck, what are you guys still doing here?

Realizing that is the first step. Only perma begs think there are any and that is why they stay at the same level. It's like riding a bike or driving a stick shift car.

The amount of shit you have to learn is overwhelming, the best cope is to narrow the scope of what work you want to make, maybe temporarily maybe forever. If you are painting landscapes you don't need to know anatomy, if you are painting in monochrome you don't need to know colour theory, if you are drawing in line you don't need to know values. Look at the kind of art that makes you want to make art and decide which aspects are really important to you and which you would rather avoid or leave to learn later.

These are basically me. Listen to these two. You don’t need to master every aspect of drawing to get what you need out of art.

Tailor art and it’s processes to you and what you want to do with it. I personally find shortcuts for things I don’t enjoy that much, like backgrounds. Before you tell my I’m ngmi, I’m gmi because I tailored drawing in a way that gives me dopamine every time I do it.

Pretty much, the only real shortcuts are just patches that can cover your mistakes. Art; like any other skill, takes time and effort. You can cover up inexperience stylistically but the only real way to improve is through daily practice.

You have it backwards.. produce a lot of pieces until you start to get half decent, and eventually you may start to master those things. Life is a journey, enjoy the process, if you don't enjoy the process of learning and doing art then why pursue it as a career? it's not more well paid than other more straight forward options. You can be successful with more minimalist styles, don't kill it for yourself freaking out over stuff, make some pictures, make them as best as you can addressing these things best you can, and move on repeat.. don't kill the process with perfectionism.. not knowing this meant I didn't continue with art at 19 when I was actually very good at it looking back. I'm 31 now and reconsidering it now that I'm somewhat wiser about how to learn and progress and be in this world.

This is why I love and hate art. There's no shortcut, you have to internalize everything, practice everything, really feel every single line you draw.

Unlike other things in life, you can't buy skill. You can't just inherit talent from your parents or steal it from someone. Being beautiful and popular has no effect on your drawing abilities, and everyone starts at 0, its the purest form of meritocracy there is.
Most people would kill themselves if they've been trying to draw half as long as I have. Most people don't have the mental fortitude to draw endless turds and really look at them and examine why they suck, so that they can take one tiny step towards progress with each new turd drawn.
People say drawing is easy, but their brains automatically block out the endless torrential storm of despair they know awaits them if they tried their best to draw something and had the world judge it. Its easy when you're good, but getting there is the hardest thing in the world, like being a comedian.

No shortcuts, but you don't have to grind out every fundamental before you let yourself draw what you want. Just keep drawing and practice the things that bother you.
The literal manga you posted shows a massive difference in quality between chapter 1 and now, less likely that Yasuhisa Hara draws spheres inbetween the extremely punishing weekly manga schedule and more likely that it's a natural consequence of drawing every day for 16 years

he's a spoiled brat compared to so many other characters that constantly falls up and has a super hidden cool secret power that's totally a curse that sux I guiz
that said it's a fucking meme and gets the point across albeit poorly. i had a well-off buddy in college who had parents that stuck him in art classes since he was a literal toddler and he is absurdly good at drawing and what's worse is he has zero interest.
people tell him he has insane skill and is incredible, offer hundreds of not thousands of dollars for his art but all he cares about is his beginning career as a politician.
he also doesn't understand why people don't do the same for their kids. literal "well... if you can't afford to send your toddler to a private school/daycare for art have you considered... just making more money?" despite the fact that he's nearly 30 and his parents still pay for most his shit and it's his dad's name on his credit card.

Until today Hara still doesn't know how to draw the triceps muscle, but you don't care because his art gets his point across perfectly. The difference is manga is a story medium, so script and pacing takes precedence over detailed art. When you're just a literal who posting single art pieces on twitter, you do need those details.

I'm absolutely convinced that improving your handwriting is a fast track to improving your drawing. You've already got the shapes in your visual library, and forming sentences is trivial. You can just write your name over and over and over, if you want to be lazy. Or you can copy down a poem you like. Or if you want to be really fancy, you can do "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog." or whatever. Or Lorem ipsum. And you can start with pencil and then ink over it. You'll get to practice using your entire arm which will feed directly into your line work. It will train your eye to see small imperfections in curves. When dealing with negative space, it's a lot easier to reason about the "anatomy" of letters than complicated silhouettes of organic objects, like the human face (e.g. the two faces that form a vase shown in every art textbook on the planet). Now... learn new typefaces. Heck, write your name in bubble letters and shade it like it's a balloon animal. Now you can practice shape *and* value. Most importantly, just draw.
