What if someone doesn't fit the standard proportions of the loomis method? How would I gauge proportions then? Sometimes prople's proportions deviate from the average. For example, pic related, Ron Pearlman, has a much longer nose to chin length, whereas the loomis method suggests the proportion from the nose to the chin should be equal from to the glabella (brow.)

I want to do portraits but unfortunately I think the loomis method is flawed and will create people with essentially the same face.

No it doesn't, because Loomis himself in his books shows you how to morph and deform the standard Loomis head to make anything you desire. Literally all you need to do is just... change the Loomis head. Because it's intended to be infinitely modifiable to begin with. You monumental fool.

Use and abuse other relations and measurements, and maybe do a quick study on the relationships and distances of a certain persons features. Is their chin a bit longer? measure how much it is longer than the brow-to-nose area, and then try to find something that fits that size (an eye is always reliable if you're going for a realistic portait). Make sure you reference CONSTANTLY, when sketching and on the final product so you can perfect they proportions

I wont because Im right. Loomis draws stale, trite proportions. People are complex. Some people have shorter noses in relation to their chin. Loomis method tells you that it has to be the same. The loomis method is basrd on white washed european standards most likely.

All it is is construction. There's literally no rules. Loomis is just one example of how to conceptualize the head as a collection of 3D volumes. Truth is, once you understand construction, you quickly move past the need for a specific "method" that you follow dogmatically.

And im telling you these are all essentially the same face. See these blue marks i made in each third? Theyre all equal. Yea the faces might have wider cheekbones or jaws or skulls but the thirds of the face are all the same with no deviance and some people have deviance.

Here is what Loomis said specifically about the matter. It's not a an absolute law, just one method of rendering the human figure. This is something that always gets brought up with Loomis but he's actually quite flexible, I don't know where this idea came from.

the proportions are examples and every book literally says to just measure something like an eye, an ear, lips, or the width of a wrist or something to do additional, precise measurement.
The proportions Loomis provides are default settings. They're not required. Why are you people like this. Why do you guys take all tutorials and books so literally.
It baffles me that any human can live their life going "Oh, man. I really want to eat these instant noodles in sauce but the package says 2% milk and all I have is lite. What do I do? Starve?"
