If you are a /beg/inner or /int/ermediate in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the drawthread with fundamental exercises.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS wide using one of the following methods:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in MSPaint

When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help. When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

Hello /ic/!
I've been so busy I haven't done any at since this little sketch Wednesday. I did the family thing, cooked, exercised, and so many projects, and now I have four hours before bed.

This happens to me all the time with everything. Just rotate activities and remember to come back. When my art sucked I went back to cooking. Sometimes I'll do music. Or switch media, or subject.
With creative activities I find that the less I think the better I do.
One other crazy tip is if you wear glasses, don't wear them. If you don't, try drawing with sunglasses. I find that seeing badly sometimes breaks a slump, ymmv.

Hello fellow /beg/gars, today i have decided i am a brand new guy.
I have been drawing on and off for fun for years but was never serious about it.
Sometimes i would try some tutorials or study something, but then always stopped and went to do something else, as i always felt overwhelmed by the thought of the infinite things to learn.
I will set concrete goals to reach, drawing everyday in moderate amounts without burning myself out.
To start off, i want to complete taco1704 's online tutorials before the end of the year, copying the drawings and analyizing them, 10 pages per day.
I have tried a bunch of "teachers" like loomis etc but i felt tacos tutorials were the ones that resonated best with me, i really like his linework and how he manages to give charm to even simple things like hands and feet.
Thanks for reading my blog.

>I did the left with proportions from memory and the left i did while copying proportion but i don't know why it's so different

You answered your own question: proportions. Don't rush yourself. You are a beginner and SHOULD be working with references. That's normal and avoiding that will only make your progress slower. Cute anime girls have short torsos and looong legs. You made her lanky by extending her chest too much. Her neck and right arm are lost to the messy lines which makes the shape unpleasant.

Digital has lots of cool tools and with time you should familiarize yourself with them. However, for a complete beginner, it can also hinder your development considerably. To break down something into simple shapes you need to confidently draw these shapes first and some hand/eye coordination + muscle memory must be achieved for that.

Working with pen and paper, or pencil and paper is going to make you aware of your mistakes (no undoing), and make you think about proportions inside the space of a single sheet of paper (no resizing).

By all means, keep doing the stuff that you have fun doing, but getting some mileage drawing straight lines, circles, curves, and working on developing confident lines WILL do you a lot of good on your journey.

A good way to think of outfit design has to do with the balance of functionality and aesthetics. You can only visualize an outfit based on the overall narrative you’re trying to convey; a character that is roguish would wear something dark and shadowy. A character that is strong and burly will wear something heavy and large. The outfit should personify the person you’re drawing because it’s an easy outward expression of themselves you can show. You can try to browse fashion catalogues, but it’ll be more difficult to pinpoint exactly what you want to draw without first knowing what style or character you’re conveying.

Today's art. I can see the flaws in it, but I'm happy with my progress. Done from imagination/construction. I'm not happy with the foreshortening on the leg, and it wasn't my intention to leave the feet off, doing feet and hands was one of my goals, but that's how it came out.

If you are pre beg (the sorry who would ask>>6395664 question) then you will benefit from the muscle memory and eye coordination training.

You must, of course, stop trying on tracing, but artists have been tracing their own work on new media for centuries. It's a legit skill than begs must learn, and the low difficulty easy reward encourages progress.

But they won't necessary be as engaging to pre beg.
As for me, I got better at drawing from painting miniatures. It's basically a 3D coloring book. Tracing over coomer prints with paint made me better at drawing with no practice drawing.
I went from this to learning to draw and found that I could draw better than I ever could in my life.

Hello beg. The book pulled out of nowhere anatomy. But then it didnt include any anatomy in the schedule nor any anatomy material. Very artistic book!

>>6395729
Hello boomer, many drawing apps like krita or CSP allow for both drawing and animation. From brief look at the guys channel the only special effects i saw were adding noise and chroma aberration, these are basic effects and any better app should have filters for that. I suggest checking out Krita. Its free and even some pros recc that. I will just say that animation is very long arduous process where you need to draw same thing from slightly different angles and that requires great patience and CONSISTENT art style and skill.
>>6395715
you drew her face from FRONT but we can see TOP of her head. The anime style can hide a lot of errors but this breached the threshold even for anime standards. Eyes cannot be in middle if you tilt the head forward and the eyes cannot be symmetric if only 1 ear is visible. TLDR use reference

most bra sizings are pretty inconsistent. the number is for the circumference of below the breasts, the letter is vaguely becided by the circumference of the chest itself (around nipples). basically, the size stands for how much the boobs "stick out" from the torso.

>I'm such a messy idiot, I have a particular question, how would you go about learning lineart (and finishing stuff in general) if you were in my situation?

Ok, well thats pretty simple at your level. Basically take your drawing layer and put it on about 10/20% opacity. Make a new layer, slam that "stabilizer" to a much higher level (every drawing program has one nowadays), then slowly go over the parts that are extremely messy until its clean. Then erase the old line work under it and merge the two layers. (pic related is an example)

You basically do this over and over until it looks clean. Most of the time you will need to redo all the linework over the sketch multiple times. Yet as you get better, your hands learn to be more confident in their strokes, and your brain gets better at visualization. Your sketches will end up being very close to the end piece and you will need to do this less and less.

One thing to note is when you first start doing this, you will quickly find that your clean artwork actually looks much worse then the sketch itself. This is because when you draw really messy and chicken scratch your imagination fills in a lot of the details, but when you have clean artwork it does not. You are left with exactly what you drew. What you need to remember at this point is that what your brains fills in for you is not the same as what someone elses brain interprets. Faces are easy, even "normies" will see them everywhere, but you can get to a point when you hand your drawing of a kangaroo sniffing a flower to your buddy and he wont understand what he is looking at. In art communities, people train their minds to interprets lines but normal people do not. Lots of people close their eyes and see fucking nothing.

>> No.6396529

>>6396528
>>6396374
>what do you think when looking at my work?
I may be pretty off base here, but when I look at your work I think A: You looked at what you wanted to draw and tried to 1:1 copy it. or B: you out right traced it. I think this because, judging from the top left, you seem to have a good understanding of where the pieces need to go. The contour of her face shape, the location of the eyes / the nose / etcetera. Yet your lines are very messy and unconfident. These two things usually go hand in hand when drawing from your imagination. People will more likely have confident lines even if their anatomy is wrong.

None of this is bad obviously, its a good way to practice and get better. The only reason I bring it up is because you said you have trouble finishing finishing a drawing. When you do too many studies, you rely on the artwork you are studying to visualize to much for you. Its important to also draw from your own brain to train your imagination into seeing the finished piece. Even if its blurry and wonky in your brain you can at least see the end point that you need to work towards.

If I'm wrong and all this is from your imagination then I apologize. Keep it up, you have really high visualization skills and lots of potential.

>but you can get to a point when you hand your drawing of a kangaroo sniffing a flower to your buddy and he wont understand what he is looking at.
literally me fr when my friend said my spaceships looked like rocks and I quietly seethed.

>don't feel like drawing
>read manga or see art posted on 4chan
>start studying the pictures, try to understand how they make the image so appealing
>suddenly have the urge to recreate the drawing since i'm too /beg/ to draw from imagination
it's that simple

I'm halfway done with the Huston's intermediate head construction course. I feel kind of underwhelmed basically. I wasn't very satisfied with the explanation for the eyes, I didn't really feel like I learned much nor do I feel like my eye construction is that..good

I was about to spend money on NMA after that first course which was kino

courses are a meme. The only way to improve is through studies. How many eyes have you actually drawn, from reference? Try hitting 500 eyes in the next 2 weeks. That's 36 eyes a day. Draw 10 more eyes per day from imagination. That'll put you at 644 eyes total over the next 2 weeks

Did you really need someone to tell you that the hands were bad? Also why are you redoing the face it was one of the only good thing

if even Proko can't draw from imagination then there's nothing wrong with relying on references for most of your work imo

Yeah, I can't help it. My imagination is fat. I can't draw it thin like the photo actually is.
