The last part of this is feeling your posing “looser..” it’s hard to explain but all the joints and muscles look really stiff here. Even in a pose of reaction like this one, the person should still be readably upset or ready to run.. Head turned away also doesn’t sell it on this one. I think it's just because they're sketches, but the small pupils contribute to the look. Maybe experiment with making them bigger (potentially by a lot, like hyperbolically so), or removing them altogether. At least for the sketch. Someone else might have better advice, but just give it a shot.

Maybe I'm just autistic and find pupils menacing.

Welp, gave it a try with the looser posture, but it just doesn't seem to fit. The figure is meant to be rather bulky and squatting down a bit/hunched over, so the more open gesture feels awkward to fit. And his reaction is less shock and surprise, and more slow dread/realization that he's being watched.

I don't mean to rag on you, because it's a good effort overall, but her snout is pretty massively fucked. It's off-centre, too thin, and just all around kind of wonky, so I'd recommend looking into how your favorite artists draw snouts, and maybe studying some anatomy on them. Her eyes also appear very flat, as if her face is a plane, and not a volume; you should decide if they're on the front of her face, and then study those types of skulls, or on the sides, like a prey animal or a dinosaur. The way her cheek shows on one side is inaccurate as well.

Faces are tough, especially non-human ones. Keep at it.

Your body definition is oddly very good, the thickness is well done and fits together realistically and tastefully that many "thicc/chubby" artists fail to accomplish.
Like the other Anon said, the main area that requires improving would be the face and snout region, and Snoot Game is kinda tricky to learn and improve on that area considering the character designs, you need to understand overall face/snout structures before you can break the rules and make it work like in Snoot Game since it kinda goes against snout conventions.

I would recommend general face/skull anatomy practice/studying and some realistic snout studying also. Keep up the great work Anon, I really, really want to see more art from you, just your work on Rosa's body alone put you in my sights.

Taking a break from this one for now. Better that I don't look at it for a while, and come back fresh to assess gesture issues.

Starting this new one for the time being. A very big kot. Definitely need to work on the fence's perspective, but not sure if it needs to be raised a bit higher, or if the angle of perspective needs to be more exaggerated. He's meant to have one foot on the fence, and the other more leaning off the edge. And I'm experimenting with the face. Will probably look at some other artists for face ideas.

I was just messing around, never done Loomis.
But if you feel you can't do studies, create more. That's what got me studying. Basically, when I forced myself to study, I only got better at that, just doing "higher quality" studies but my actual work never improved. When I started creating more, and compared my work to my inspirations, that's when I started see growth. And from there, when I went back to my studies it started making sense why it was so important. So now I have a good balance in jumping between studies and personal work, allowing me to make the progress I needed.
But know that I had to a good 3 months away from studies to create for myself, allow me to draw up cringe, then finally look back at my studies and really figure out where to go from there. I'm still learning, and as I share my work I get more and more info on how to approach it better from other like minded artists.

Your drawing looks rather flat, the anatomy is alright but the calves shouldn't be that angular and the shoulders aren't that uniform with the upper torso, and the snout faces "up" while the face and ears face forwards. The figure's left hand also looks confused between grabbing the staff or pressing against it; in other words the hand doesn't read clearly.

That said, I love this drawing. You did a great job capturing that fanzine feel. I love the full-body space suit and the goofy hair. While the snout looks wrong to me, it conveys a great deal of emotion, and the pose has a lot of energy to it. Nice work!

In terms of furry, the traits are all there and you're doing well.
In terms of general fundamentals like form, it's lacking, head feels flat, the cheek fluff seems drawn at random and contributes to the lack of proper form
I will be honest with you, drawing appealing fluff is hard even for me so take this advice with a grain of salt: find the artist who draws fur in a way you like, and study that motherfucker for a day. Copy his drawings a few times, try to deconstruct their thinking and apply it to your own art.

Good luck mate. Don't be afraid to trace their art either, I've found that helps me create the muscle memory necessary to pull off complex shapes after analyzing. Just don't publish something traced as your own of course.

new/fag/ here, I notice a lot of top tier furry artists use a particular brush that gives the fur a sort of defining thickness, particularly around the silhouette. It's really hard to explain sorry but it's similar to Korean digital paintings in a way.
Surely it isn't just a normal round brush with barely any lead-off, opacity set to 50% and pressure turned off, right?

Tigers have fur that matches the color of their skin underneath, but tigers are the only known exception afaik and I don't know if that logic translates into fur-tattoos.

to answer ur question the only brush here is a "hard" round (hard but not binary like either off or not so theres still a little glide) and i blend by color picking close values and going over the area with that neutral value. i got that brush from the aaron griffin brush set on deviantart its a great brush set ive used it since i was like 17 or something.

if you are more interested in the texture of the fur in this painting i did last month look up stealthnachos on twitter you can find his brushes there and i used one of those for this whole painting. nice chaulky brushes.

No i didnt copy, i just practiced a lot drawing faces and now torsos, i barely practiced drawing legs yet. All i can say is that i've practicing the fundamentals like breaking down objects into basic forms and perspective. Also, i'm very lazy and usually dont use references which hinders my development, i recommend using references especially if you wanna learn anatomy.

mmmh yes I like it. If I had to guess I'd say you have 4-5 years of experiance in art. It heavily depends on the willingness to learn new concepts in art. I see many artists stagnate with their style, because they draw the same shit from their mind over and over. Always use IRL refrences and if it isn't real go to your favorite artists and look how they do it.
