If you are a /beg/inner or /int/ermediate in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the drawthread with fundamental exercises.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS wide using one of the following methods:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in MSPaint

TRY TO BE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK.
When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help. When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

is it there a way the measure the proportions in perspective?
I know the basics of perspective and I can draw environments, houses, buildings, and stuff
but if I want to draw a super dynamic pose using a "wide lens", how am I supposed to know how big is the arm close to the camera?
I see most people eyeball it like " lol this hand is close to the camera so I'm gonna draw it SUPER BIG" but I want to be precise
I know the basics of foreshortening too, I know how to draw an arm moving toward the camera, I just want to know if there's a trick or a way to know how big am I supposed to draw it

Not that anon.
The main issue is the structure.
The furthest eyebrow should curve with the edge of the face.
The nose widens with a smile
The philtrum basically disappears when smiling
The upper lip gets thinner and follows the curve of mouth, imagine a cilinder
You can use solid black for the corner of the mouth
The less lines the better, specially for women
Lower eyelids for a true smile
All those thoughtless hair lines should go towards the ponytail.
And dont be lazy, I can find references for this angle on the first page of results
Dont just copy mindlessly, understand the structure

Does it actually involve using hair, clothes and body figure to code that the character is female,so the viewer "sees" the face as female?

I traced >>6371710's head and it immediately seemed more male despite rather small differences and I wonder if whether that's because those small differences were enough to confuse me or because there were no breasts to indicate the gender as without those the character seems androgynous or maybe I'm just autistic like that.

The issue becomes more noticeable if you flip your drawing (pic related). First, you should move his nose further to his right, until the cartilage between the nostrils is properly aligned with the philtrum of the upper lip. After that, you should move his eyes, along with the eyebrows, further to his left, until the gap between the inner corners of his eyebrows is properly centered above the bridge of the nose. If you make those tweaks, the improved symmetry will make your already handsome guy will look even better.

After making few photos of myself I realized why people generally don't do extreme angles from bottom and above.
>squishes the facial features together, making it less distinct
>people are not used to seeing faces from such angles
>nose sticks out so much it's comedic, any attempt to draw it from bottom will make it look like pig snout, unless you avoid drawing nostrils, but then it looks weird anyway
>you barely see eyes, as those become slits
The classic "girl looking down on you"? That's just few degress of difference. You can easily forgo drawing bottom of the chin as the point of the chin is slighty lower than it unless character is a mouth-breather.
From what I remember, extreme angles are draw larger distances to avoid having to deal with fucky details.

Ultra /beg/ here:

How would you rate this guy's... uhhh what's it called... construction? Process? Style? I've seen people here in other places That you should be drawing what you think parts of the body are shaped like (ellipsis/rectangles for certain limbs, maybe a circle for the head tits and ass, etc) before you move any further. What exactly is this guy doing? Is he just more skilled to the point where he doesn't need to do that (If that's what he's doing)?

TLDR: What is this guy doing and why is it or is it not important?

Hello beg. Draapery!
>>6373295
When dealing with textures like hair you have many options. Some digitalfags outright steal photo of said material and slap it under the layer or they use advanced brushes with patters or use multi-brush. Tradfags can simply create illusion of texture by rendering it on key spots and then let the brain of viewer to fill in the gaps. So for example on head you do the hair only at the edges and mostly only in areas where its dark. The rest you leave blank or just do very few strokes suggesting the form of haircut. You did well btw

It would depend on the subject matter of your picture, as well as on the specific vibe that you're trying to achieve. If you could provide us with a bit of context regarding the scene that you have depicted, you'll be more likely to receive pertinent advice.

My guess is that your character is some sort of sorceress, presumably engaged in a ritual (perhaps a sacrifice?). You have drawn her quite well, and she is the most eye-catching part of your picture at this stage, but there is an incongruity regarding the effect of the wind on her hair in comparison to the greater push being exerted on her clothes. Specifically, while the drapery that covers the lower part of her body is light enough to be blowing in the wind, her hair appears to be mostly static.

My suggestion is that you attempt to infuse her hair with further motion, tilting its overall mass slightly to her right, so that it matches the angle of the blowing drapery, which would better convey to the viewer the push of the wind. This would entail redrawing part of the hair, but, on the bright side, I'm sure that the end result will be worth it.

Thanks for the feedback.

In retrospect, you're right that I should've given more context, especially at such an early stage. The initial idea was a druidess/nymph of sorts that has come across a dead deer, and is trying to resurrect it. I'm not sure how I would show a sort of healing process is a single frame like this.

You're right that there is some incoherence with the hair and the cloth around her waist. I'll try to fix that when I touch it again.

At this current stage, the streaks of healing power coming out of the deer look a bit too similar to flames, which is why I thought of the possibility that it could be an animal sacrifice on the part of your character.

In order to dispel that notion, you could try adding several little starry lights between the streaks in question, floating around the deer like a sort of Disney-style "pixie dust".

Or, alternatively, you could modify the shape of the streaks, making them resemble leafy branches, similar to the foliage depicted in the tattoos of your druidess.

its missing meaningful shadows, for example the towers have excellent highlights from the moon shining but the other side should be way way darker to imply the form. Basically you have same issue as like half the begs here who draw in color: you dont use full value range. Aka scared of using DARK tones of colors. Turn the pic into grayscale and notice how the pink unicorn is basically flat. BUT i still kneel, the pic is awesome. Add the dark tones on correct places (towers, bottom of the execution platform, pony underbelly, the clouds sides out of moon side, the rising ash from fire and on hands) and it will be 10/10 SOUL masterpiece

You can even fix it easily: set the layer with color on multiply and then make new layer under it and just use 100% black soft brush and paint the missing dark values on appropriate spots.

How do I express a tall persons height? Do I need an object next to them for comparison?

>> No.6375167

>>6375158
Either put down a reference or play with the perspective a bit. You can draw them as if you're looking up to them or something.

Some of my favorite methods:
>Tall characters enters the scene ducking under the freeway overpass
>Graph that shows the number of mountains they could topple placed next to them
>A mathematical function that evaluates to their height, with the age parameterized as variable t (seconds), then their age in parentheses
>A graph that shows Stuart Little stacked up enough times to describe their height accurately

You could always just go with the tried and true method of drawing an arrow pointing to the character that says "tall"

I'm lazy af too but I color in red black all the time these are three layers I tossed on your drawing in a few seconds to create highlights and bring out your shadows more. It's not the greatest but it's a start. my biggest issue was highlights not showing up and my drawings looking extra flat until I started messing with layer settings.

How do you get comfortable drawing digitally?
Also the brushes are so ugly on the computer. Am using a cracked version of autodesk cause Im not paying for something I'll break my back doing.
And with the ipad I can never seem to get a comfortable angle.
