oldfag here. 1990-2000 were the best years. it's before digital everything kicked in: shitty CGI, shitty autotune, shitty digital art, shitty social media.
We had grunge music and good alt rock, cool comics (Image & indie), the best anime & manga just made it to the states, cool cartoons, actual cinema (classics like Pulp Fiction, not just shitty remakes and capeshit movies), and early internet before everything went to shit.
Naturally, this cultural environment was great for art. Too bad I was a kid during it.

>AI interest waning, +First actual lawsuit against AI was recently filed and will set precedent for the future

The intrest is waning in shitpost forums and discussion part of social media, since everyone already head that the art is dead and no longer wants to hear the same thing over and over again. The lawsuit is cool and all, but that does not change the fact that the tech is already released and open source. Even if UN declares tomorrow that AI art programs are now illegal and all the AI research companies are forced to abandon generative AI projects or go bankrupt, there are still fuckers with the programs on their computers, and with the source code and everything. It is really hard to kill, and you cant untrain the AI on your art when you decided to opt out of it, even though they are still not delivering the opt out feature yet.

The NFT, Twitter and so on are complete non-issues compared to AI. Like comparing broken toe to amputated arms.

Nirvana Nevermind (1991), Smashing Pumkins Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995)
>Image and Indie comics
Spawn #1 (1992), Bone #1 (1991), Eightball #1 (1989—80s, but close enough)
>Best anime & manga
Cowboy Bebop (1998), Akira (1990), Also the 90s was when manga like Ghost in the Shell made it to the states.
>cool cartoons
Ren & Stimpy (1991), Beavis and Butthead (1992), Batman the Animated Series (1992)
>cinema
Pulp Fiction (1994), American Beauty (1999), Fight Club (1999),
>early internet

For me the cutoff is 2003. The whole 9/11 thing really stunted American culture and progress and we spent the next couple years collectively processing what happened and trying to cope with it up until we lied and went to war. America was extremely hopeful for the future around the turn of the century, stuff had this futuristic look and things like MP3 players and iPods were the gadget of new millennium along with Napster and limewire. We survived y2k and the world was our oyster, for about a year. Just last night I was listening through the top 100 dance hits every year from 99 and had to stop at 03 because the vibe shifted too dramatically. It's subtly visible in cartoons and games as well over a slightly broader timeframe.

Not him but I actually agree with you. Looking back, the only reason why we didn't have marvelshit and endless melanin enriched remakes is that it wasn't time yet and the people making the stuff knew. The big difference is just that there were no fucking phones and social media. You had a relationship with media like, you bounced from IRL to media and then IRL again, you talked to real people. the IRL media was literally just something that you added to your life, now it IS your life and it's the people who are accessory, and they're so worthless as an accessory that the only way they make sense is as customers, so everyone's become some kind of utilitarian sellout whether it's for money or attention.people have eroded so badly after 2004ish when facebook came out and especially after smartphones it's not even comparable, it's like a whole different world. if you were born to be a kid in the technological age and grew up in a world with social media/phones you cannot understand how massive of a change happened in people and how horrible it is to have lived through this weird zombie apocalypse, with people turning into phone cyborgs. you have no idea how bad things are right now

>>AI

Changed nothing for the most part. Most artists hate it so trying to make a career from it is just going to get you dogpiled once people find out. People didn't magically lose customers or interactions like they kept claiming would happen.

>>The death of Kim Jung Gi

Yeah that sucks. He was a great artist but his lessons and art are still out there for you to study. Honestly this is the worst thing to happen on this list.

>>Twitter now algorithmically supresses you if you don't pay $8

According to artists it was doing that before Elon bought the site. Nothing has changed and how do you know it's the algorithm and not the fact that your art just isn't popular? You could also Migrate to another site but we all know nobody is going to do that. If they do, they'll end up right back on twitter because their audience didn't follow them and/or the site lacks the amount of social activity that twitter had.

>>CSP changes to a subscription plan

Pirate it, put money aside for the sub plan, or just buy the version for one single price and not have to pay for it again. If you have a source of income from a job or your art then this isn't impossible.

>>NFTs still here

NFT interest has fallen super hard since earlier this year. They'll never fully go away but a lot less people care about them.

>Worst Year for Artists!

If I've learned anything this year it's that Artists tend to overreact when they can and act like it's the end of the world or their careers every single time. There are alternatives and workarounds but they just want to cry and doom post.

Coomers are more human than kikes larp as art lovers. If they decided to just coom, they will just google search random porn. The ones who commission or join membership are genuinely adore if not love the artists.
AI is just a photo editor, cut and paste multiple art into one but faster and less efficient. People do this shit for years and none of them replace real artist.
The real problem is Kike will try to copyright "AI art" with multiple artstyle and they will copystrike artists for for simply just draw in their own style.

It was doing it before but only for official tick accounts which within in the art sphere is almost no one, so it was barely affecting competition. Now everyone is forced to pay $8/month in order for their tweets to be seen. It's no secret they are going to tweak the algorithm so that unverified accounts are sent to the bottom of the pile, it's in twitter blue's terms and Elon admitted it in an interview. Whichever way you slice it, it's bad news for artists.

Twitter isn't dying. there are many more people using the site that aren't artist or dont care about artists that much than people who use it for art.

Even the people that claim they're leaving twitter are just going to come back when they realize whatever site they go to doesn't even have half the userbase and they start missing out on the social interactions besides just posting art.

Shouldn't have taken the "vaccine".

>Twitter now algorithmically supresses you if you don't pay $8
There are alternatives and these alternatives reset the competition, giving you the chance to compete with the 100k following artists. it's an opportunity.

>CSP changes to a subscription plan
?
Who in their right mind even uses CSP? Lol. Lmao. Use Krita, it's better organized and more versatile.

>NFTs still here
No one cares about NFTs.

2022 has been a great year for me. Lot's of little self-improvement. The things you listed haven't really been noticeable:
>AI
It was fun for a few days of toying around.
>The death of Kim Jung Gi
Never gave a shit about him and I won't pretend to be sad about his passing.
>Twitter now algorithmically suppresses you if you don't pay $8
Just like it always has.
>CSP changes to a subscription plan
The current CSP version is all I need and the license is still permanent.
>NFTs still here
lol

it literally wasn't though, that's the point. there were almost no official checkmarks within art circles before but now everyone will be split between the haves and have-nots. You have to pay the fee to avoid being shadow banned

The non-checkmarks aren't being suppressed, the checkmarks are being boosted. You might think it's effectively the same but it's not.

This. The 90s was unironically the best time to live in a first world nation where the biggest political scandal in the states was whether the president had his dick sucked or not.

The death of twitter is a good thing because hopefully it'll push artists to move away from that dogshit platform full of mentally ill pronoun babies.
