i'm currently a taking an animation program in college but i'm always struggling with doing guesture drawings of live models because since they are always timed i can't always draw fast enough to keep up and i end up getting stressed out it physically makes me tired and i end up drawing without really thinking of what i'm doing just so i can get it done
am i just not cut out for this

here are some recent examples of my work that i got a 4/10 for

tl;dr - Don't worry about it.
Longer answer - Gestures are all about capturing the impression the form gives to you. You're not trying to draw it 'correctly', trying to do that will just waste time and you'll end up frustrated. Don't worry about the proportions, shading, anatomy, or anything else. Doodle the form of what you see, and if you have time, tighten it up then.

Do take note, the is from the perspective of a person who studies on their own, rather than actively being guided. Take what I say with a grain of salt, and please, PLEASE experiment. Do 30 sec gestures on your own to get a feel for them.
This is a good site for practicing:

Good luck!

there's no gesture in your gesture drawings. you need to capture the feel of the figure, the motion, the energy, the force with a single stroke. gesture should take less than 30 seconds to do and then you can build the figure after

Anytime I see someone drawing at this level as an adult I'm pretty much convinced it's already over for them and they're actually ngmi. It's not worth trying to help. Even someone with 0 knowledge of fundies should be able to do a better job than this.

Only really posting this out of curiosity to see if anyone else feels the same.

Did those reatrds just throw you in assuming you could already do this jesus christ what shit teachers.
FIRST you need to make sure everyone is up to speed on how to do fast figure drawings and what to look for wtf
Like >>6361553 said Hampton and Vilppu, I'd recommend Hampton first.
Here is hamptons book,

,you'll need to do a ton of these to actually git gud but you'll improve so fast that those retards don't know what hit you.

No, I don't feel this way.

For theory, read Hampton's figure drawing book or Vilppu's Drawing Manual. For practice, take like 10~30 minutes a day to do some gestures at line of action or posemaniacs. Let yourself make mistakes if needed; end of the of the day each gesture isn't a big time investment anyway, and the more of these you do, the more meaningful your strokes will be. Keep on keeping on.

read the first 4 chapters of "Force drawing human anatomy". it will teach you how to draw energetic and attractive organic shapes, since gesture and low level figure drawing is basically figuring out how to maximize attractive shapes with zero anatomical knowledge required for it beyond proportionality. the basic idea is that organic shapes are non-symmetrical, and you want to have counter opposing organic forms pushing against eachother to form the human body, this is where the "gesture" and "energy" idea comes from, and why a few abstract lines can easily convey a very energetic and lively figure.

theres also a sinix design video that basically covers this same thing if video format is more your style.

Hi, I think you struggle because before drawing the body in motion, you need to understand the proportions and function of the bones in motion support.
