If I may write a blogpost, the real redpill moment for me was well before this AI discussion started taking over, it was in a life drawing class with Karl Gnass. As a bastard who has been doing this drawing thing for a while, he admitted to the class that basic portraits and still-life drawings were never really gonna cut it. If you wanted to "make it" in simple terms, the skills you gain should be applied to some form of storytelling. He was talking to a bunch of animators for context but honestly this should apply to almost all artists no matter what the specific trade is and this advice rings even more true with this AI debacle.

These AI images dont produce a story or a unique message/perspective, or at least cant produce one that didnt already exist. A large portion of these AI generated pieces are just random amalgamation from work/photographs that were already created. In that sense artists shouldnt worry. However, admittedly it should be a wake up call to artists to actually APPLY your art skills into something that isnt just basic portraits or figure painting. Make comics, animate shorts, make video games, be a bloody storyteller. We still have that edge when it comes to creating art, to echo on OP's point.

Thousands and thousands of good art already existed before this AI trend, the fact that AI can churn out and regurgitate it into something slightly different isnt inherently special. But it is now more important then ever to not just be an artist who just regurgitates what he sees too(Honestly this debacle is a lot like when photography made the scene now that I think about it).

TL:DR The rules are still the same despite this new technology. Actually apply yourself and your craft to actually MAKE something. Hell ,use AI as a tool for all I care, as long as you can twist what it produces and make it your own. YGMI anons.
