6263340 No.6263340 [Reply] [Original]

A thread about things rendered in pen and ink. Preferably inanimate objects such as glasses, clothing, architecture, landscapes and plants. People and animals are welcome too tho. All styles welcome including manga.
Post what you like and keep words to a minimum. Lets have a thread where can we share our appreciation of such art in silence.

How do you draw like this if you fuck up once you have to start over? Draw it with pencil first?

You can make minor corrections with a scratch knife, larger corrections are made by simply pasting a piece of paper over it. That being said just don't make mistakes

Not pen and ink. Gustave Dore is great, though.

While I know we're supposed to keep discussion to a minimum, what would be a good way to learn this style of art? I've appreciated it for a very long time.

I highly doubt they inked it without an underdrawing. I know Bernie Wrightson started with pencils and then inked it.

this isnt mine, but its how i do my pen and ink. depending on the need, it will be more detailed. like architecture stuff, ill do more ruler stuff like this image. for nature, i can just do a few sweeping lines for a mountain and simple cloud shapes or same thing to mark off foilage. i wouldnt do anything intricate or final lines for anything. empty box shapes for most buildings and just spend some time getting windows/perspective setup, but no actual details or lines to trace. you can fix most mistakes pretty easily with more lines or just thicken it or black it out.

yeah, drawing first, plus preliminary studies to know what kind of pattern to apply where, composition thumbnails, etc.

>>6263366
maybe frustrating cause you're not there yet? takes some time to master, but once you do, I bet it's very enjoyable

>>6265633
Definitely >>6266380; then, master studies. Alphonso Dunn's alright too
