It’s better to foster a nurturing habit of drawing for yourself while using 3rd party apps for your smartphone like habitica. Needing to upload your work while downscaling file size and rule restrictions is unnecessary.

Some may benefit putting their journey up for all to see, but it may backfire on you and not be as inspiring if you’re permanently stagnant like in the case of many dads. Challenges are also not a challenge as the material you use (paid content) is not allowed, limiting challenge ideas and stifling community growth and potential in the site overall.

These are looking sweet. One thing to keep in mind is that the rim of the upper lid is thicker and more visible than you think- youve got a strong 3d rim on the lower lids but the upper look a little flat. I'd say the rim is tilted up about 45 degrees from the eyeball if not more. Thats what I've been observing lately anyways.

you suggest books and they say the books are shit. you suggest youtube vids and they find reasons to avoid watching them. you provide sites, resources, references, etc and they don't use any of it.
you give them the simplest pose from a life drawing model and they put it up, stare at it and refuse to make even a single line. they just stare at it and the paper or screen.
eventually they just go back to trying to draw anime from their imagination; grinding their table stylus or graphite into a fine powder and carving into their work surface.

The most important thing i'm focusing on is that i'm practicing everyday and I believe in order to do that I have to make it easy to do. I think by removing all these distractions I make it harder on myself. If I can keep doing the fun things while I do other fun things then i'll do all the fun things together. I can agree that if I put all my focus on the task in front of me I might progress faster. I think right now i'm better off not trying harder. It's really simple if you think about it as a 3D block in, much of the treatment that makes it look good is the texture details. The most important thing here is just having either good references on hand and/or a strong visual library. Don't skimp on prop design, it and environment design/layout drawing go hand in hand.

If you're going to draw on such a small piece of paper, then it's no wonder that you can't get a decent texture going, better tools won't help you much. Look, a single pencil stroke is thicker than feathers you're trying to draw.
Go big, like A2 or at least A3 big. While you're at your art store also get softer pencils for extra dark values: 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B and some soft charcoal in pencils.
And get a copy of Drawing Realistic Textures in Pencil by J. D. Hillberry - it's really great and it will help you a lot.
