Older artists lurking /ic/, what compelled you to learn drawing?

A combination of things. I once had aspirations to make a comic but fell out of love with the medium, wanted to be able to express myself in a way that is both abstract and concretely useful, and found I related to the thoughts and concerns of other artists more than the uninterested.

Originally, it was to have a career in animation or comic books.

Eventually grew out of that dream, but still maintained drawing as a hobby. Somewhat.

I don't really draw that much these days and when I try, I get bored after only a few minutes.

I was taking a college figure drawing class just for the credits to graduate, figuring the models would be landwhales and fat dudes so i would just draw a big circle with 4 lines for the legs and arms and a tiny circle at the top for the head and i would get my credits. Then one day early in the semester a female model showed up to pose nude for the class that day and i was mesmerized, she was so beautiful, better than any movie or porn actress id seen, and her body had these perfect curves, thin yet great wide hips with perky tits....she was like a combination of Taylor Swift and Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop. I drew her really, really good because I wanted to remember her tits, her puffy nipples, her snatch. The drawings turned out really good because i really tried hard to make them as photo-realistic as possible, and i impressed myself. I was undecided about my major so i declared drawing as my major and ive been drawing ever since.
