its a cool picture but what about it does strike you as particularly creative? Its a dutch angle of a woman ironing clothes while talking on the phone. minus the dutch angle, the gesture alone is probably fairly common in sitcoms and movies and the like. kobeni is also being lit up by the sun from the back, which artists often do to draw attention and make more striking certain objects in pictures at the risk of reduced clarity.
this artist's drawings stick out to you because his combination of closeups, nicely objects, mundane everyday situations, emotive facial expressions and moderate eroticism are able to appeal to you on a more personal level.
it was his solid execution and integration of a broad number of aspects that made you think "wow I like this!" . and i agree with you I like it very much too but nothing about this particularly strikes me as profound or creative, and especially something that required a "trick" to achieve

I imagine that once drawing is second nature to you, it frees you up to let your imagination put together better scenes. Plus you know from experience how to compose shots. So I would say it's mostly mileage, but you have to have some imagination and desire to draw those things

I was expecting it to be crap, but this guy is actually pretty funny.
The secret to his success is that he's a massive shitposter at heart, and I'm all for it.

>> No.6148900

I like this guy work, I don't think the poses or backgrounds are that creative, his skill is somewhat between mid/int/ and high/int/ but even with a lower skillset it wound't be that different, but the themes and what he does is pretty charming in a goofball sort of way. What I like most about his work is the colors, this perpetual golden hour like a world that is always that warm sunset of the end of a good day or start of a new adventure.

I think what makes it good, truly good is that it seems artistically sincere so the light nature of what he draws seems genuine.

Also, you know what else is kinda crazy? He only got this big in the last year or so, his old art before starting doing those complex paintings still has retweets close to 40 or 50. I don't think his old work is different, better or worse, but is kinda interesting to see. I've been thinking in doing something similar to what he does, complex paintings with some background work to see how it compares with animegirls on the void, but not for now, I have too much work cut out to be thinking that.

>how do you decide "I will draw a woman ironing and on the phone in this angle and with the sun behind her and making this face" and know its going to be good?
Define "good". OP's image meets most standard criteria for dynamic illustrative composition - there's lots of diagonals, repeating shapes, clear value groupings, dramatic lighting. There's a clear narrative conveyed by the actions of the woman and her facial expression.
>How do people just create good art for no reason, when I'm frying my brain just to make turds.
Why do you think this was done for no reason? Do you not think the author had to train their skills?
How much deliberate practice do you do each day?

I practice every day. But drawing shity things chips away at my mental stability every time I sink 5 hours into a turd. You don't know how painful it is to create shitty art. Or how it feels to see someone just shit out gold in a fraction of the time it takes you.

creating shitty art is part of the process, brother. you think every good artist you look up too put out masterpiece after masterpiece? in between each piece you adore is a million pieces of shits they wasted time on. it's part of nature.
>You don't know how painful it is to create shitty art.
literally every artist to ever exist knows how painful it is
>Or how it feels to see someone just shit out gold in a fraction of the time it takes you.
everyone feels this. even the greatest artist themselves will think EXACTLY like this. you feeling the 'pain' is natural. it means you're growing as an artist, and when you grow, there's growing pains. take the pain and move on. no pain no gain, right?

>But drawing shity things chips away at my mental stability every time I sink 5 hours into a turd.
Okay, so you have identified a problem. Now reflect: is chipping away at your mental stability good for your long term improvement? No? Then don't do it.
>sink 5 hours into a turd.
Don't sink 5 hours. Do quick, 5-15 minutes pieces.
>You don't know how painful it is to create shitty art.
It's true I probably don't experience it the same way you do, but I have made countless bad pieces. Every bad piece is a chance to improve, if you decide to reflect on it.
>Or how it feels to see someone just shit out gold in a fraction of the time it takes you.

Your win condition should be learning new things and practicing stuff you already know. Making good art is a retarded and vague goal, you will eventually realize that its fulfillment is mood dependent. You will feel happy about shit work and you will wonder why people look at it weird, or you will actually make good art but you will feel suicidal about it. This is your fate if you set vague goals.
A better way to assess is to ask if the artwork conveys whatever you want it to convey. If yes, why? If not, why? Stop wondering if it's good or impressive, if those are your goals your art will be sterile off key garbage, I guarantee you.

That doesn't mean you should be satisfied with sub par work. Just learn to make rational logic based SPECIFIC assessments instead. What did I learn from this? Did I do better than last time? What could be improved? Specifically. Not "ugh the face is weird cause im dumb and stupid :s", like ask yourself WHY is the face weird, compare to some artist you want to draw like. What is different about his faces? Is the proportions? His shape language?

Be specific and stop with this vague nonsense. You can improve without suffering if you let go of the histrionics. Use logic and reason to assess your work, not emotion. Being sad and hurt will not help you improve, a bit of anxiety is good but if it affects your quality of life or makes you hate art then you are being retarded and you should get a grip.

Like I said you have to have the experience to be able to draw the stuff first. That means many modest attempts at different scenes and trying to convey messages. I've you can do that I would say inspiration is probably part of what you're talking about. For instance, the easiest way for me to picture a scene is to listen to music. My mind will literally imagine a whole gay scene play out like a movie when I listen to certain songs. You have to find what moves you in that way so you can share your imagination

You build up a 'visual library' in your brain.

Random photos, books, games, whatever else, over time all this junk builds up, and as your 'artists eye' develops (the more you study pictures and break them down mentally. the more your brain saves away) you start to get a feel of what looks pleasing, at least that's how it's supposed to work.

One trick I tried for this is to grab about twenty pictures of an artist I liked, compressed them into a short gif or webm, and make them into a 'flipbook' to stare at and let my brain absorb.

Half an hour later I come back and then study the images directly.
I like to think this crams my head with visual material fast, but whether its actually useful is open there.
