The question is if you're saving the bullet to kill the form and keeping it on the fridge for further studies, or maybe that's for little billy's mom after he didn't came back from school, he had art class that day and his bag was looted, inside there was a yellow graphite pencil and a pink eraser, he didn't like Vilppu much, his professor kept insisting into trying to "feel the form", but he didn't listen, he was more of a Jazza and ZHC fan and they "made cooler looking art than that creepy old man", that professor couldn't forget his words, but he knows she's gonna knock on that door, he has a small rag and a glass of chloroform ready though, and for such an arrogant little brat the ultimate punishment must be to stab her repeatedly with a dull knife and feel her form, there's no other way but Vilppu's way.

I make games so the range of software I have to have open all the time is high. The size is great when you need tons of information, not that necessary for modeling. Great for Unity (tons of inspectors and shit), great for animating in blender (multiple camera angles visible, multiple graphs). But when just modeling I don't generally use Blender full screen I have other stuff visible, might make more sense in maya though which is more UI heavy.

This one is 55" I semi-accidentally got a larger upgrade than intended, my original main screen was a 43".

43" is just enough, 55" is great (with good viewing angles). I'd say anywhere between 46" and 55" is ideal. Part of the reason I got the 55" is cause it had better features and quality than the 50" version. Thats probably common, so if you want better color accuracy or HDR brightness 55" is better.

Cintiqs are good. Overpriced but they last forever, so you'll often see an artist using the same one for over a decade. So, if you want one, you can usually find a used one on eBay or some other site.

Here is my recommendation. I bought two of the middle (green boxed) one in 2019. I have zero complaints about them other than you have to find a good spot to clamp them on your desk and make sure to manage the cable.
The top box looks almost identical and its about 10 dollars cheaper. The bottom most one is apparently a different model but it includes color temperature settings if you care that much about it, but you're paying the premium of nearly 40% more. I would not recommend them if i hated them at all, but they were the best money i spent on a table lamp ever.

Hey there tried to follow your tutorial and ran into a few issues, incase you are still here.

Main issue was that while I could draw in the smaller shadow shapes, when they got bigger it got messy. Basically I tried to draw a large shape and then erase the shape in, when I tried to do it with a smaller brush size it got insanely messy. Also see the circle I marked in red at the crown of the head. At that point it seemed like the shadow color changed, the only way I got it to look similar was soft erasing. But I do assume with the brush you used you just used less pressure correct?

Other than that, how did I do? And may I ask what soft brush you used? Because mine seems fine for the smaller shapes but not for the bigger ones.

Behind your desk is in the middle of the room, you have cables in the middle of your room in twisted piles. There are moving objects like weights and a VR rig near the open cables asking to get snagged. You have cables strewn across the primary walking path to your desk. Your computer and display cables are pulled taught under their own weight. You have shitty fake vines wrapped around your desk legs. It looks like you have a cable management hole in your desk with no cables in it (but it might be a coaster). You have power bricks just floating in space behind your monitors. It looks like you have 2 subwoofers, why would you need two multichannel audio systems in a small space… ?

i live with a miniature ancient closet-like room with no air circulation and a big vent on the hard floor that dumps all the dust in my building inside in such great quantities that you can both almost hear the endless wailing of my tech, and i’ve developed a severe dust allergy, and spend a good deal of my time practicing not breathing.

real talk, my first thought on seeing your workspace was that i want to have a place like that so much it aches. it so exactly mirrors my tastes in every way that i don’t even know; from the posters, (feathered velociraptors, rocket staging, maps,) the blanket and curtains to the vines idea and the gorgeous backyard, and that blue light and airy feeling, damn. it’s absolutely perfect.

first, i want to say that you've done a wonderful job so far! it looks great, and you're on the right track. if im understanding correctly then just keep on drawing large shapes and erase it to your liking, or you can blur the edges. i don't really use a small brush since like you said, it gets messy. only use that for finer details. and regarding the circle you marked, the shadow color did change because i used less pressure + blurred some of it, so you're correct :)!

again, i think you did a really good job following the tutorial, i'm impressed! also, the main soft brush i use is https://assets.clip-studio.com/en-us/detail?id=1798017 it feels really nice to use!

and sorry for bit of a late response, hope ur still here and if you have any further questions then just let me know. i'm always happy to help!

My setup is made almost entirely of garage sell/clearance/thrift store stuff. I got the standing and sitting desk from the ikea clearance section for $20, the wooden drawing surface is made from a shitty coffee table that was free at a garage sell, the white drawing table was free at another garage sell, the monitor is some 15 year old thing that I inherited from my brother, etc. etc.

idk, its an isolate opinion of mine, buti never thought a lot of early entry digital art looks particular soulful. which is sad, since doing work on paper at least keeps the spirit of the artist alive, from my observations.
doing everything digitally just comes across as hollow to me.

but for the anons here (and others in general) i feel most of the folk posting here would be better off at least starting traditionally and colouring their work digitally, but most of these workstations don't even accomodate a desk for drawing with traditional tools.

doesn't look artistically accomodating in the slightest.

My family is only middle class at best, really—I just got lucky. I'm a zoomer that lives at home with my parents while working a minimum wage warehouse job and frying oreos in a foodtruck sometimes on the weekends. The monitors are hand-me-downs from richer friends that didn't need them anymore since they got upgrades, so I took em' off their hands either for free or for a cheap buck. The drawing tablet is a $500 XP Pen I got as a birthday gift from two of my best friends online, and the instruments are a mix of cheaply bought hand-me-downs from friends again or stuff I bought with my own money after wagecucking 7 days a week for a whole summer as a carpenter. I did end up selling the drumset after a year, though. It was taking up too much space and making drumbeats in my DAW ended up being faster and easier, though definitely not as fun.

Couple interesting things I forgot to mention is that I made the desk myself using a solid core door and black pipes. If you need a sturdy desk that's cheap for its size, only ran me about $160. Solid core doors are heavy as hell though, so don't expect to be able to transport easily.

I made the VR headset desk stand. That HP monitor I have is not compatible with any kind of mount, so I had to make this custom adapter. I gave it this handle that comes out the front since there is no good place to grip the monitor by.

I used a closet door from ikea from the “as is” section by checkout. I think it was $5. It was a little thin probably under an inch thick, so I just put one of those 6ft metal shelf rails under it to keep it from bowing. I think the ikea saw horses are like $30 each. Total cost was under $75. Using doors for tables is great. The hardest part is getting them home.

The metal piping is an interesting idea, I like to use filing cabinets sometimes because you can get some extra storage on the side.
