I'm a big fan of this artstyle as well. I'd reccommend looking up Marco Bucci's paid painting courses. And watch with great attention his every painting demo, there's great knowledge in there. After that, I'd say you should study the disco paintings themselves. In the end you'll develop your own painterly approach. Picrelated is one of my drawings inspired by this style. If some anon can reccommend a brushset, I'm really open to getting some new brushes, as I mainly use Marco Bucci's brushset

Here's my quick (1h) attempt at copying the style. I'm no expert, but if you're interested my process was basically:
>start with a rough sketch (I eventually merged this into the painting to add to the roughness)
>lay in some quick flats for the major areas (face, hair, jacket)
>switch to a brush with a weird shape (a bunch of rectangles) and high spacing to add some texture/noise, then start adding more colors and refining
I kept things loose the entire time, so it was a pretty fun process. Looking at the final drawing side-by-side with the original I see tons of mistakes and room for refinement, but at least I was able to get the "look" I was going for.

that makes no sense, you cant have a texture on something thats just going to smudge it lol. but yes its either a smudge or the mixer, which has a a lot more capability and works better than smudge. but smuding is like 30% of whats happening, youre missing a lot of techniques beglet

and do you use a tablet by any chance? because you have zero control of your brush work, i literally drew mine with a mouse

oh shit thanks frens, I'm sorry I forgot to explain the process which is the entire point of the thread. I'm too boomer to take vids but here's the breakdown. Naturally it wasn't done in this perfect order but it might be helpful to see the separation of layers. The brushes were shared in the other disco elysium thread a few weeks back, worth the 7 bucks. I mostly used the hard bristle brushes.

I wasn't timing but I think it took me like an hour & half. Don't skip color theory guys, very important fundie.
