The image that you generate by reading a book is dependent on what you've already seen.

Watch movies

nah merit in art is awarded to you by the small hatted hand rubbing grabblers if they think they can profit from promoting you, ideas & skills are irrelevant

This. Also there’s so much in terms of composition that you can pick up from (good) movies, it’s actually insane that I was sleeping on this for so long.

I disagree with this. What about all those magnificent paintings filled with imagination that existed long, long before movies.

Read and listen to music. Conjure images in your mind. Sketch those ideas as thumbnails and evolve them.

>> No.6086173

It's not hard, Relying on already conjured external stimulus like entertainment is a crutch.

Everyone drew from life in the end, reality is the best most can't get that though.

Now you need to work on your taste. Whatever you're into, movies, manga, music, etc, you need to step out of your comfort zone and analyze different genres, preferably anything made earlier than 1995.

you sound angry. why don't you make some art about how mad you are lol
if it's about creativity, then it has to be about expression. something only you can express. the time and feeling you wasted on this mediocre post could've been spent drawing about it.

good luck!

this is exactly why you need more ambition than just 'draw porn to make money'. you're not an artist, you're just a guy who draws alot.

I have a different problem. My imagination is completely fucked, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Like I can fall asleep and see something cool like a fucking horror movie but usually I just don't see anything. I'm not sure why.

Nah reading is way more powerful for generating unique visual ideas. Your brain just automatically generates them as you read, it's like dreaming while awake.
Just watching movies barely does anything for you visually because your brain doesn't have to generate anything, everything is fed to you.

Drawing thumbnails from a movie to study value or composition or doing color studies is extremely valuable for studying fundamentals. But generating creative visual ideas is the realm of reading because of what it forces your brain to do.

A child is born and lives in a white room, 100x100 m3.
He is being taught to read, and is given a book.
What would he imagine, while reading about modern day city?

What would medieval Polish peasant imagine, given book about ancient Japan?

You do not generate anything, you are building a picture from what you already saw.
Same with art. There's no creativity, if your visual library is empty.

that is not the case with OP you supreme wordcel. even if he hasn't made a conscious effort his mind should be able to fill in the blanks, unless he is another hopeless wordcel like you.

"For although he must ever be a child before the influence that moves him, if it is not with the knowledge of the grown man that he takes off his coat and approaches the craft of painting or drawing, he will be poorly equipped to make them a means of conveying to others in adequate form the things he may wish to express. Great things are only done in art when the creative instinct of the artist has a well-organised executive faculty at its disposal."

>You do not generate anything, you are building a picture from what you already saw.
you are discovering themes, scenarios and stories that you can communicate in visual formats
furthermore, a good story can help you express yourself in ways you couldn't comprehend without the story
