I don't like to draw, or ink, but coloring (and painting) are really cool imo, what about you?

I'm more of a painter than a drawer(?) anyway

I like sketching, sketching is the most fun part where you can be creative without constraints. Inking sucks because it's the opposite, and coloring is moderately enjoyable because you know it's the final stretch.

Having ideas and thumbnailing.

So basically drawing like a 5yo with no concern for accuracy or even intelligibility.

Sketching is ok, linearting is a burden.
Putting flat colors sucks, choosing colors is a bit fun, shading is meh.

Painting (instead of flat-coloring) is also very fun, but in order to look good it requires a lot of underdrawing, so I don't do it much.

Ink >>>>> sketch > color

Inking is where you carve the soul into your drawing. It’s permenance makes me feel like I’m committing to the drawing and giving it life. Coloring is just me worrying about messing up my beautiful ink

how do mangaka's manage 3-4 of those jobs alone while american comics need 6 different people to rehash batman

>> No.6086549

the main reason is overworking. mangaka absolutely kill themselve with their unhealthy work schedules.
However their work is less work than the American since they have no colour and they don't have to shuffle around work between 5 or so different workers eg inker, colorist, writer, etc

The big mangakas do have assistants though, they hire people to do the backgrounds often

Comicbook industry is intentionally compartmentalized. If it wasn't, creators would realize there's no reason to work with publishers, since they don't really do anything anymore but still take the royalties. Image exists because of exactly that.

>> No.6086603

>>6086570
Mangaka aren't their own editors, and editors do the final lettering. And the mangaka still typically hire assistants, the main difference is really that the sole author still has the majority of the creative control -- editors ultimately just want the work to sell well without ruining the publisher's image, so there are some limitations, but it's not anywhere near as bad as it is in other countries.

This here is the biggest problem with the comics industry and why it fails compared to the manga industry

The editor is more than just an editor, they're the whole director. They're the ones who are coming up with the ideas of what comics should be about, despite having absolute no qualifications in either art, writing or probably even reading comics.
They have no talent, no vision of any kind. They should be the final person who reviews the word to make sure it aligns with the publishing company's needs.
